This dual band router is nice, but you musst at least have devices that can use a 5ghz signal to make the most out of this router.

Outdated - don't waste your time

I got this because my Time Warner modem w/built-in router couldn't keep my wireless printer on my network, and the Linksys router I'd used previously was mysteriously dead in the water when I plugged it back in. That should have been an omen - this model failed to initialize no matter what, and Linksys support was pathetic. At one point they even told me that I would now have to pay for technical assistance because they saw a previous entry from early 2016 - apparently the notion that I'd bought an entirely new piece of equipment was utterly foreign to them! (So much for their experience with customer loyalty.) In the end, Linksys admitted this unit was borked and advised me to return it to Best Buy, where I exchanged it for a Belkin AC1200 with no trouble whatsoever. This router is actually vintage 2012 technology and outdated in terms of what the average single person, non-gaming household needs today, but that still shouldn't keep it from setting up. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH THIS ONE.

      Hi, Arcturus,

Although this router is one of our legacy models, you should still be able to set it up easily as expected. We understand that you've already returned it but allow us to look into your experience with our Support team as this will surely help us improve our processes. If you still have the reference number from them, please email it to us at [email protected] along with your phone number and the link to this post for our reference.

I bought this partly because it was supposed to be easy to set up. Well it's not. The software simply would not load in my computer. I tried a chat line. Their advice consisted of plugging and unplugging the modem, router, computer, etc. After messing with it for about 40 minutes I tried another chat line. Same thing. I then found a number to call (on the internet). Same thing. Plugging and unplugging and unplugging again. ALL OF THESE PEOPLE TRIED TO SELL ME AN EXTENDED SERVICE POLICY THAT WOULD COVER ANY PROBLEMS FOR SIX MORE MONTHS. I explained to all of them that so far no one would get the router working for me, so what good would an additional six months of nonservice be? I made another call. This person walked me through an elaborate fix. I am now four hours into this. We could verify the router was working, but she could still not make my computer work with it. She referred me to another service that would charge me $70 to make my computer talk to the router. I said no thanks. The next day, after some trial and error, I got my computers to interact with the router. I would advise you buy Netgear.

As an IT Perfessional, I purchased this for my parent's modest sized home. Had a wrt54g which covered the house well. This item did not. They have a laptop, a desktop, and an iPad with a rural internet connection. Not much for traffic over the router. I returned the item. Have yet to find a decent mid-range router. They have no need for a media streaming AC monster.

Unlike my Linksys E3000 this model E2500 is less than satisfactory. The signal would not go through drywall or plywood from 8-12 feet away. What ever did get through was unusable and stuttering signal. Checked out on three different rigs. Got 1 1/2 bars out of 5 bar.I Also bought range extender, now 5 bars of stuttering signal.
