Unable to disable the 2.4Ghz frequency. Why would I need to disable it? My stucco walls, Apple devices seem to “latch” onto the 2.4Ghz WiFi network (that annoyingly shares the name with the 5Ghz network), then I walk outside with my MacBook to work on my patio and the connection degrades to the point of being unusable (due to the stucco mesh screening the 2.4GHz signal). The devices don’t automatically switch over to the 5 GHz. With other devices I serve the 2.4 GHz signal using the guest network, but this sneaky Linksys model keeps the 2.4 GHz channel running for the guest and primary networks. Obviously too late to return this $159 toy.

I have one node that will randomly loose connection and then the devices working off of it won’t work. Very aggravating. I reset it a few times and have trouble for a few hours then it will work great for a few days and then it messes up again.

Once set up, the Linksys Velop WHW0103 Mesh WiFi system can deliver a stable connection and upgrades your home to full-strength mesh WiFi. You may try to use the channel finder on the Linksys app to optimize the nodes and make sure that the firmware is up-to-date.

I needed to boost my internet signalnout to my addition. I purchased a 3 pack originally, two failed. Being i didnt buy a geek squad warranty i had to go through the manufacturer to get the failed components replaced. They are easy to set up, but fail easily as well. They do not connect to the closest node, they connect to the parent node and thats annoying because connection remains spotty at best. Dont rely on these to stream on any devices or game. Buy ethernet cable and run the direct connection to a multi-spliter to connect addtional devices.

Now we have all around great signal that reaches all the way to our detached garage!

Granted it was during the COVID shutdown, but I literally spent 8 hours on hold and speaking with 2 different people to not get a resolution. I missed most of a day from working. I had to repeat the same checks with the second CSR. They really worked hard and tried to trouble shoot my router issue, but at the end they said we’d have to send a trouble ticket to their engineers. Not including my time, they spent more on the call just in labor than the cost to just replace the two mesh towers. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was put on hold another 45 mins before gave up and hung up. When I asked why not just send a replacement, they said they didn’t have the authority and had to exhaust all measures first. I just plugged my old router up again and will look for another brand.
