Not good for me
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Did my due diligence, studied all of the mesh that where available and talked to the people in Best Buy before purchasing. I have to say, they look extremely nice compare to the others but functionality wise, not my cup of tea. Its not a range issue, that has been incredible, but lag and speed with constant disconnection of my devices. App could be MUCH better than what it is, there is not a lot of effort into it. I would truly recommend looking at others, this product is not made with much love, it was just made to bel if it works or not, I dont think they really care.

Spectacularly underwhelming and unreliable
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. To say that I was grossly underwhelmed and unimpressed with this mesh WiFi system would be an understatement. It is an exceedingly unreliable package that has poor throughput on the repeaters, going from 330 Mbps to like 35-40 on the next closest element one floor up, and disconnects from the modem regularly. The remote units are also routinely disconnecting from the base.

Will not allow vpn preload
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Works great as a WiFi extender, but you cannot preload a vpn onto this router, you will need another router and use the below in bridge mode. I.E. just a WiFi range extension.

If I could rate zero stars I would!
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely the worst technology purchase I have ever made! Nodes cannot stay connected even when they are in the same 20sqft area as one another. Constantly get notifications that one or nodes cannot connect! All devices disconnect from wireless several ties a day. The old linksys wrt54g router I have as a backup is doing a better gob than this piece of junk!

Parental Controls Do not WORK!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.1st, great router and system...easy to setup and use in the app and web portal. Issue, bought this for its parental controls and ability to setup block times....well in order for block times to work, have to reboot velop system, then block kicks in, but doesnt block all sites...can still use google and yahoo...that is not blocking. Even on instant block, does not work...have to reboot velop everyday for parental controls to take place. Contacted Linksys after ready forums of this issue with many...2nd level engineer is still working on it (common on forum discussion). I really liked this but will have to return...sadly.

||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was a second router purchase from your company because the first sales person misled me. Now this one performs in all the rooms of my house but not as good as the 3 year old net gear that I had before. Now I have the problem of my internet shutting at the same time each day which is what I was trying to resolve in the first place. After waiting over 30 minutes to be helped it is frustrating.

Good for really, really big homes
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was really hoping that this was finally the product that would give us consistent wifi throughout the house. Our home is around 2,000 sqft but it's 3 levels. The internet comes into the house in the basement which is where the Fios box and router are. So the problem has always been a weak signal on the second floor, and bad spots on the first floor. I thought a mesh network would finally solve this problem. The main unit could be in the basement and provide good wifi to the basement and most of the first floor, while another node on the 2nd floor, on the opposite side of the house, would fill in the gap and cover that floor plus the spots on the floor below it that receive a weak signal due to walls/pipes/insulation, etc. The problem is that you need a really, really big house to make this work properly. The nodes are powerful and I don't doubt Linksys's claim that each one will cover 2,200 sqft. I ran a long cable and set one up on the first floor of the house all by itself. It provides a full signal to most of the house, but again, there are spots where it drops way down due to the construction. But, going back to the original setup, no matter where I placed the other nodes, I could not get devices in the house to connect to anything other than the primary node in the basement. You can't manually select which one you want to get the signal from. This means that a chromecast or wemo switch on the 2nd floor is still getting it's signal from the basement and on the linksys app it shows up as a weak signal. I ran a speed test on my phone upstairs and it's coming in at 32mbps vs 83mbps when I'm standing down near the main node. The reason for the dropoff in speed is because I can't switch nodes. So my phone auto switches to 2.4Ghz instead of using the 5Ghz band. The 5Ghz is the faster band but I can't use it except within a short distance of the basement node because it doesn't travel through walls well. Again, if I could manually select which node I want stuff to connect to, and if I could use the Linksys app to specify that I want to use the 5Ghz band so that my phone would switch between nodes as I moved around the house, that would be perfect. That's what I expected from a mesh network and it's not what's happening. So for me, it's a nice looking router but for someone in an average, 2,000sqft house, don't bother getting more than 1 unit because you'll never be able to get away from the main node, even if the wifi drops off a bit and you get pushed to the slower 2.4Ghz band. It provides a good signal but nothing that blows away other routers and the inability to select the 5Ghz band is a weakness. It's too bad because I was really excited to finally have a solution for our home but it looks like I'll have to keep searching.

$400 for one working node
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Started to have issues over a month with the product. One Child node is red, the other child node is working but with nothing connected to it. All my devices, even ones within line of sight to the child node, are ALL connected to the parent node. So basically I have 2 useless nodes. But hey the range is pretty good on it in a 2000+ sqft home with a basement, so there's that... Thank goodness I have geek squad protection.

Posted .Hi, EmetronAWD,
By design, the wireless devices should automatically connect to the best node in the area. For now, try to move the node with a red light closer to the other node. Posted .Hi, Sunvi,
The connection issues might be caused by wireless interference and using the Channel Finder on the Linksys app might help optimize the Velop system. Since the device should be able to provide 2,000 sq. ft. per node and a stable wireless connection. Also, make sure to update the firmware as this usually fixes some issues.
Let us know the results at [email protected] with your contact details and the link to this review for our quick reference. We'll have our Escalation Engineers investigate the device further.

A lot of time on phone with tech support
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had problems with wife speed on the Velop from the getgo. I needed this primarily to help strengthen the wifi signal to other family member's devices. For me, who did not have a signal issue, I found the speeds were still typically significantly faster connected directly to my gateway by wifi. Over time, I've just migrated away from using the velop system. My family continued to complain about internet speeds. However, recently I experienced some broadcast issues in our home with our gateway and both our provider and Best Buy said Velop would be a better "manager" of connected devices. So, after some 2 hours with tech support, I finally got the Velop system working again but discovered that I was running less than 200mbs while the gateway was delivering over 200 mbs. I think it was some 50-60 mbps difference. So, I was elevated to tier 2 where I've spent another hour on the phone and it appears one of the nodes may be defective. Today, the variance is now closer to 300 mbps as my gateway is delivering 360 while the velop system is delivering less than 100. Linksys is opting to replace them. Great but I fear another several hours on the phone. The tech support process is very slow.

Great potential
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was a hard review to write. My current router is a Linksys EA9500 which is a beast of a router and I’ve been very happy with it. But lately, Mesh Wi-Fi systems have been getting rave reviews so I couldn’t help myself and decided to compare the Linksys Velop system against my current Linksys EA9500 router. Mesh Wi-Fi systems promise better coverage and seamless roaming from access point to access point using a single SSID. I live in a smallish townhouse (1500 sq ft) with 3 floors and my Linksys EA9500 was in the basement. While it provided good coverage at the 3rd floor, I was curious as to whether the Velop could improve upon it. Setting up the Velop was very easy. I first downloaded the app to my Insignia tablet. Then I unplugged my old router from the modem and reattach a Velop node to the modem. This becomes the main node. The Velop app then finds the node and configures it. It took a little bit of time before the app could find the node. I also had to reboot my modem before getting internet connection. But otherwise, it went very smoothly. I then added another node to the 2nd and 3rd floor. The node at the 2nd floor is using wireless for the backhaul while the node at the 3rd floor is using Moca 2.0 cabling for the backhaul. To use a wire connection for the backhaul, you just set up the node as normal and then connect it to the Moca adapter using ethernet. After that, the node should use the wire connection for the backhaul to the main node. The process took about 45 minutes. So, how does it compare to my Linksys EA9500? From a performance standpoint, it’s a mix bag. Using Wi-Fi Speed Test on my Insignia Flex Elite 7.85 tablet, I was stunned to see it getting 232 Mb/s download and 140 Mb/s upload using channel 44 at the 3rd floor. I’ve never seen such a fast connection on this tablet. But on the next day, I was only getting about 24 Mb/s using channel 3. It looks like on the first day it connected to a node using a 5 Ghz band but on the other days, it connected using the 2.4 Ghz bands. On one 3rd floor computer using a Linksys WUSB6300 AC1200 USB 3.0 (with a Realtek chipset) wireless adapter, I had terrible results. I only saw a link speed of 173 Mb/s (with the EA9500, I got link speeds from 200 Mb/s to 650 Mb/s) but the worst thing was that it was very unstable and slow. When transferring a large file from my NAS, I only saw transfer rates of about 6 MB/s and it always disconnected in the middle of the transfer. I had better luck with another 3rd floor computer and a Netgear A6210 AC1200 USB 3.0 (with a Ralink chipset) wireless adapter. With this adapter it was very stable and got a high reported link speed (866.5 Mb/s). But the actual transfer rate was only about ½ as fast (about 15 MB/s) compared to what I got from the EA9500 (about 28 MB/s) The transfer rate from the Netgear adapter seemed puzzling to me. This computer was sitting right next to the node that was using the Moca 2.0 backhaul. I should be seeing much higher transfer rates. With the transfer rates that I was seeing, it made me wonder if my computer was actually connecting to the 2nd floor node that was using a wireless backhaul to the main node in the basement. Streaming from all my wireless/wired devices (Roku 3, Apple TV, Android TV, Amazon Fire TV, TiVo Bolt, XBox One S etc) all went smoothly. Overall, the Velop provided great coverage with very good speeds all over my house. I think the Velop provides better coverage than my EA9500 but at a slightly slower real life speed. However, I think the Velop’s speed could be improved with fine tuning of the algorithms used to connect devices to each node. I think part of the problem is that it sometimes uses the 2.4 GHz band to connect to a device when it should be using a 5 GHz band. And I sometimes think that my device was connecting to the wrong node. But it’s hard to tell which node a device is actually connecting to. From a features standpoint, the Linksys EA9500 is better. The Velop nodes have only 2 ethernet connections and no USB ports. I really miss the ability to connect a hard drive and printer to my router. So, overall, I think the EA9500 is a better choice for my current situation. If I had a bigger house, then I think the Velop would be better. But I sense great potential in the Velop and think that with improving firmware, it has a chance at being better than the EA9500. Because of this, I’ll continue using the Velop for at least another six months before deciding whether to swap it out with my Linksys EA9500. Here are my thoughts at improving the Velop. 1) Provide an official Web Based Management tool. The app is nice but when you’re working on a computer, it’s a pain to get up to get your tablet when you want to find out the IP address of a connected device (such as when you’re trying to configure a USB print server to replace the one from the EA9500). Also, it would be great if the tool could provide a visual map of how the nodes are connected to each other and which node a device is connected to. 2) I really like the single SSID concept but perhaps it would be good to have the ability to configure the Velop with two SSIDs -- one for the 2.4 GHz band and the other for the 5 GHz bands. This will make it easier to force a device to connect to the Velop using the 5 GHz band. 3) Release a companion product that is an 4/8-port gigabit switch with two USB 3.0 ports that can be used to connect hard drives and printers to. This device can be used with a Velop node to offset the fact that it only has 2 ethernet ports and no USB.
