I was getting better speed with a single Apple Airport before "upgrading" to the Velop system. At maximum distance, I was getting about 25Mb with the Apple system. With these placed at opposite ends of the house and a central node between them, I get 60Mb max standing right next to the wired primary node, and 10Mb near the mesh nodes. It's like the radios are cracked down. It also requires a cloud account with remote management. However, once set up, you can dissociate the cloud account (but it's not trivial) and get local management only. And management is being kind. There is no bandwidth monitoring, the firewall does not seem to block unsolicited traffic, the internal web server is super slow and looks like a 90's AOL channel (cheesy clip art and all), copy/paste is intercepted so you cannot easily get MAC addresses, and the list would go on and on. Essentially, I was excited to get a mesh system, now I am sorry I chose this one. As soon as practical to do so, it's going for sale online for shipping only - because I could not make anyone endure this for money.

      Hi, ChicagoJoe,

It could be that the settings is not fully optimized. If the nodes are already running on the latest firmware, we recommend utilizing the channel finder instead so the nodes will find the best channels that fit your network environment. Share with us the LED status of the nodes along with the other relevant details at [email protected] so our Escalation Engineers can lend you a hand. Don’t forget to include a link to this review and your contact information for documentation.

After MANY HOURS on the phone with linksys, visits and upgrades from Comcast, moving nodes/modem, adding nodes and even running wires....we FINALLY FIXED our speeds. We were getting 900mbs out of our cable modem, 900 mbs out of the back of our wired node and about 100-150 on wireless. We ended up with 6 nodes in our 4500 sq foot house at the request of Linksys tech support but we did it. We got GREAT speeds now. Know how we did it? Threw those things in the trash and got three eero 6 Mesh Wi-Fi nodes. Done. STOP WASTING YOUR TIME WITH THIS UTTER GARBAGE. This has class action lawsuit written ALL OVER IT. These nodes are NOT capable of speeds about 150-200mbs. Anyone who says they are is flat out lying.

    Poor quality - error prone

Spent over 2 hrs installing - takes a while for each node to connect. Firmware upgrade in app permanently frozen after 40 minutes of waiting I restarted the app. Upon restart it states upgrade the was done. Nodes suddenly stopped working blinking red several hours later on its own. Lost internet while kids are online doing school work. Tried to restart and app keeping going into error - I have a iPhone 11 Pro Max so it’s not the phone. What an inconvenience! The app is very buggy and the hardware doesn’t seem to respond properly. The main node is registering blue with weak internet in the house. I called customer service and after a long delay became disconnected. Very frustrated. Although the product had a 3 year warranty it does not seem to hold value. Less than 24 post install and already had WiFi failure in entire home. The internet to home was verified to be working from ISP. Overall impression: very disappointed. The hardware and software are buggy although I have not had WiFi issues before. I guess I will be returning this product.

      Hi Cleve,

Making sure that the nodes running with its latest firmware and are placed away from possible obstructions such as walls, fixtures, furniture, and metal appliances may help resolve the issue. Nonetheless, our Escalation Engineers would be more than glad to help improve your Velop's overall performance. Hi, Eric,

The Velop Tri-Band system is able to provide up to 867Mbps signal strength for the 5GHz network and up to 400Mbps for the 2.4GHz network. If your internet subscription is more than that and you’re getting a lesser speed, please get in touch with us at [email protected] so we can have our Escalation Engineers check if the system is already running at its full potential. Don’t forget to include your contact information and a link to this review as our reference when you reach out.

This is the worst router I've ever had, I am completely comfortable with home network technology but this system is garbage. I purchased this for my parents about 2 years ago, apparently unbeknownst to me the system goes out on a bi-monthly basis. I have been to their house several times, first I went ahead and dealt with tech support which was futile at best. I had more knowledge of the system than the customer service rep did. I sat on the phone with this person for 2 hours because I wanted to see what my parents would have to deal with if they didn't have me around to fix it. The rep was nice enough, but all of the back end changes I had to make were way above mybparents knowledge and comfort level. I have fixed that system 7 times in the past year and one to two months later the child nodes stop working and you have to go back in and change parameters all over again. I've never actually had a product that sucked this consistently. I finally purchased my parents a luxell system, more expensive by a lot, but over 6 months with zero issues and more consistent speeds than I ever received with Velop. Actually, the router that their cable company provided them with was better, and that's saying something. Look at all the stars and take them with a grain of salt, try a different system, this one is just not worth it.

Installation was simple and took about 20 minutes to setup all three nodes. The iphone app was easy to use and provided good instructions to install the nodes. The simplicity of a single SSID for both 2.4 and 5 ghz makes it easier to connect all devices. The signals are strong throughout the house and I am very happy with the wireless mesh network, there is no more need to have wifi extenders with different SSIDs. Performed speed test in different locations throughout the wireless mesh and the results were incredibly better and consistent than my previous wireless router and wifi extenders. The built in lan ports are handy if you need to attach a wired device, each node only has two Ethernet ports but adding attaching a small switch gives you more flexibility. Overall happy with the product and enjoy getting the same performance throughout the wireless mesh. So far the best router mesh network product for 2017!

I’ve had three nodes for about 2-3 years and I probably spent 20% times simply troubleshooting the system. WiFi constantly goes out although I have internet. Consistently fight red lights on the velops. I’ve tried it all. The last straw was this past week when I was out of town. I opened my remote garage door so my friend could put my packages in it. I went to close the garage door remotely and it didn’t work. Suddenly everything at my house became disconnected. Contact my carrier and my modem had internet no problem. I came home three days later to find all my velops red and my garage door open. I AM OVER THE VELOPS!! Switching to net gear. Hopefully it’s a better experience

Didn't do anything for my Wi-Fi. There is no noticeable difference in speeds. I have a Verizon Fios model and sometimes it feels as though the nodes slow me down instead of helping to speed up the connectivity. I'm a bit disappointed because it was a lot of money for this system.

With little to no print documentation, the installation app was installed on a mobile phone. A day and a half later, with at least 6 start overs, the app was downloaded to an iPad to take full advantage of the dashboard, not visible on the mobile phone. The units were hard to get networked, and once linked, they didn't seem to channel sufficient bandwidth along, limiting the number of connecting wifi devices to merely 3 at a time, #1 with maximum bandwidth, other devices getting minimal coverage. This didn't work for us in a large home.

The Linksys app is normally easy to install but there could be factors that caused you to restart the process. Nice looking and reletively easy to complete basic set up. Once installed, I found that I then needed a good understanding of computers to get it working correctly. The issue with streaming lag, need to prioritize my laptop to get any speed etc. Honestly not much better than the AT&T router I already have. I am going to return this product.

    Exceptional Home Mesh Wifi Network

An exceptional mesh wifi system that provided blazing wifi speed throughout my apartment. Setup was fairly straightforward, via app only, and allowed positioning of the three (3) nodes to maximize wifi coverage with no initial node recognition/range issues. Perfect! I "stress tested" the system, once setup was completed, by running all my wifi capable devices through various tasks simultaneously with no issues. The best features for me are the Guest Access, Parental Controls, and Device Prioritization options. For households with children, for example, you could use the Parental Controls menu to select a specific device in order to control and block access to specific sites, or you can completely block access to the Internet for that device. Overall, this is an exceptional mesh wifi system. Definetly warrants all the accolades and the Editors' Choice award it has received.
