Great product wrong for me.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was told by my provider to get a different modem, but opted for the better, higher priced item. It doesn't have enough"line outs" for my needs.

Wow - best router I have ever used
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I somewhat frequently change out my routers in order to have the best WiFi possible. The Linksys Velop is truly the best wireless router I have *ever* used. The setup is incredibly simple, and the range and speed are AMAZING! This replaced a $200 Linksys router I got last year, and the internet speed actually doubled per SpeedTest.net - absolutely amazing. I highly recommend this router, especially if you need a lot of square footage covered or want a router that is super easy to set up.

Elegant looks, long wi-fi reach in big homes
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you live in a big home and have never been able to get a decent wi-fi signal upstairs -- or in rooms on the other side of the house from your wireless router -- , the oddly named Linksys Velop whole home wi-fi system may provide a solution. Technically, a mesh system ( but never described that way by Linksys), this package consists of three rectangular boxes. Each one acts as an independent wi-fi router You place them throughout the home to provide an optimum signal everywhere you need it. The nodes, as they are called, all talk to each and adjust and hand off signals to devices that need them as they move through the house. Forget the ugly antenna laden wi-fi routers of the past, with all those blinking lights. Each Velop node is simply a white rectangular box about eight inches tall and 3 inches square. No antennas. No blinking lights (but there is one small power light on top). Much more elegant. Setup is super simple and super easy and probably unlike any other wi-fi setup you have ever done. Simply download the Linksys app (Apple and Android, the only way to set up the system) power up the first box and plug it into your cable modem. The app steps you through the setup process, which after selecting a name and password, mainly involves lots of waiting for the app to complete its various steps. It takes about five minutes to setup the first box. Then repeat the same process for the other boxes. Be aware each node is powered by a rather large power brick so make sure you have a free outlet or power strip the location where you intend to place the box. Technophobes will love Velop since it hides all the arcane network setup stuff from the user. Everything from choosing the proper wireless security protocol to the best wi-fi channels is entirely automatic and invisible. But does it work as advertised? Mostly yes, although I found the stability and raw throughput were a bit lacking compared the somewhat high end Linksys wireless router I was using before. On n-only Moto G smartphone, for example, connection speeds dropped from 45 mbs to 25 mbs with Velop. Fast enough for most things but still disappointing. Still, the overall reach with Velop was excellent. In fact I got better connection speeds (up to 433mbs on an AC laptop) in most distant room of the house, than in the room where with node attached to the cable modem. Presumably because of interference from a neighboring wi-fi system. In actual usage, as opposed to simply looking at connection speeds, Velop provided fast connections and smooth HD video streaming on Xbox and Roku, It promises equally smooth 4K streaming but I dont have any 4K devices to test. One other big plus is each box has two ethernet ports hidden in the base. This allows you make direct wired connections to devices that lack wi-fi capabilities. One thing I did not like is the inability to access the system via PC. Other Linksys wi-fi routers that use the app also allow PC access. Velop does not for some strange reason. Still this is a new product. Updates are automatic and invisible. I expect it will get better with each new update. The bottom line here is this is probably a much better solution in big homes than wi-fi extenders since you don't have to worry about multiple networks and names. Performance is probably a lot better too. But if you have a smaller home, a regular old wi-fi router will do just fine and is probably a lot cheaper.

Not impressed
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had a previous linksys router, which was working okay, but we remodeled our office and wanted to update our router of 4 yrs old with one that will cover more square footage, which is why I bought the mesh, but after 7 hours on the phone with cs, it was finally accepted that 2 of the 3 routers were defective. Had to wait over a week to be replaced. Should have just kept my old one.

Promising not yet baked and unreliable performance
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Based on several online reviews including some negative ones, I decided to purchase the Velop 3-pack. Installation was easy with the iPhone app and everything seemed ready to work. After several days of testing the actual throughput with online speed test tools, I agree with other reviewers stating that these are just unreliable from a solid throughput perspective. Standing in the same location I was fluctuating from 20mbps download speeds on up to 150mbps. These results were just too extreme and unreliable to warrant the cost of the 3-pack. I also called Linksys support for assistance in connecting my webcams. I had to go into a totally separate support queue for the Velop, which was unusual. I did talk to a knowledgable technician, however, he wasn't able to resolve my issue. I would not recommend them at this time. Linksys needs to work the bugs out and make them more stable. I brought these back to Best Buy and had no problems in returning them.

Drops all the time
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The system dropped several times an hour. I know people like this but I'd seriously like to get the opinion of folks a few weeks or months out. Btw the product box says ver3 but the product is ver2. I called linksys and they said it was a misprint on the box and ver3 is shipping later this year. Just another example of how linksys has lost it's way. Incidentally I purchased a linksys USB wifi adapter few months back which also drops all the time. I went with a well established competitor for the replacements and all is working perfectly. Think twice before shopping this brand and product.

Buy the EERO
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this due to the reviews, sales guy recommendation, and advanced networking features. First and second nodes were a breeze to set up, the third node was challenging to get sync'd. I bought this as my $500 ASUS router was dropping my cameras intermittently. With this network and a node 10 ft away from the camera I still would having problems dropping out. I thought maybe it was the camera until I bought the EERO and it worked perfectly without any drops. Additionally speed was 1/3 of bandwidth over EERO. I have the 300mb Cox internet and it couldn't keep up. In short, buy the EERO.

DO NOT BUY! THEY ARE A PIECE OF JUNK!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.DO NOT BUY THESE! I bought these hoping to address speed issues with my prior router. These have made it even worse. I went from 300 Megs to 25 Mg with theses. I have to constantly reboot them and move them around to get any speed as they sit for a couple of days the speed goes way down. Linksys does not stand by this product and i have seen more then 15 hours on the phone with then trying to address the problem. When I asked if they could just send me out a new set they refused and said they have to prove they are defective. I think 15 hours of tech support shows they are defective. Again do not buy theses

Working now, but problematic start
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Neither node installed correctly 1st go via the app. 2nd Node would not finish the install. 1-3/4hrs on the phone w/ tech support, they sent out a replacement. Replacements had same issue. They ended up updating the software in both nodes which corrected the problem. Tech support was great, but a week and 3-1/2 hrs with tech support is unacceptable for a new product out of the box.

Solid Wi-Fi System
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have tested a dozen or more routers in the last couple years. Only recently have I tried the new breed of mesh wi-if systems. My first experience was with a Netgear Orbi system consisting of a base and one expansion module. In my 4000sq ft, two-story home it did a very good job of providing strong, seamless wireless. While I have been happy I decided to give the Linksys Velop system a shot. The model I am using is the three module kit. In reality this is probably too much for my home, but it is what was available. I noticed two things right from the start. First, the power brick is shaped like a square. A very wide square. Why Linksys would think this was an ideal configuration beats me, but it is a pain to use with a loaded surge strip or UPS as it covers other outlets or just plain doesn't fit. Second thing I noticed was the inclusion of only two Ethernet ports. For most this might not be an issue, but for me it is. I place the first module in my office where I also have a NAS and small media server, as well as, my desktop computer. All of which require Ethernet. This immediately necessitated the adding of a switch to what could have been a very compact, elegant setup. Had Linksys opted for four Ethernet ports instead of two it would have streamlined my installation. That all being said, the overall setup of each module throughout my home was pretty painless. They do require either a smartphone or tablet to complete the process, but most likely anyone looking at this system has one or both on hand. After setup was complete I walked around my house running the Speedtest app on my iPad Pro. I have gigabit internet which is fabulous, but I have yet to find a wi-if system to truly deliver anywhere near that speed and the Velop system is no different. Speeds were on-par with what I saw with the Orbi system. I get on average 250mb/s up and down. Not going to knock your socks off, but for most people it is more than enough and certainly capable of delivering multiple 4K video streams around the house. I have not had any stability issues whatsoever in the four days I have been using it which is a good sign that the firmware is fairly mature at launch. The only other minor annoyance I feel I should warn people about is the small light on top of each module. It is on all the time and not defeatable as far as I can tell. So be mindful of where you place each module as I have one in my bedroom and it is fairly annoying at night. That small blue light has enough output to light up my entire room. Problem has been solved with electrical tape, but Linksys really should offer some control over the lights to avoid having to resort to tape. As a whole, the system is solid. Overall performance is top tier with 20+ devices on the network and it has been 100% stable. The price is in line with the other high end mesh wireless systems so that isn't an issue. The inclusion of only two Ethernet ports is a negative for me, but may not be for others. The power brick and lights are more of an annoyance than a deal breaker, but hopefully Linksys will sort out the lack of light control.
