The system constantly drops devices, switches the priority devices to slower speed, and looses contact with nodes. linksys tech support is frustrating and useless. The app is not very functional. And does not allow for some basic control. Overall, for the price, I was very disappointed in the product and it’s performance.

      Hi, bgdubba.

This is not the experience we want to hear from our customers. Let's make sure that the Velop devices are currently running on its latest version to optimize its performance. Proper placement of the nodes also helps isolate the issue. Please email us at [email protected] with your case number, contact details, and the link to this post as a reference.

      Hi, Memorycardmogel,

The performance of the Velop system or any networking device depends on your network environment. If you happen to have plaster walls with metallic mesh, then that could cause wireless interference. Allow us to have you assisted by or Escalation Engineers to look closely into this and help you optimize the mesh network's performance. Smart WiFi but Slow App

The Linksys Velop home WiFi system is fairly simple and is designed to setup with the Linksys app. There are a few pros and cons to this wifi system but overall it is a good product. One of the pros is that it is a very cool looking device (compared to traditional routers). Another pro is that it has smart WiFi so you can control the settings from anywhere, including blocking specific websites or the internet from any connected device. Also, compared to the Google WiFi system (which I installed last month), the settings have more options (like a traditional router). For example, you can't remove the security setting on the Google WiFi but you can on this device. You can also use MAC cloning and prioritize the connected devices. There are many other advanced routing options that I was glad to see but that I don't usually use. The other big pro was the coverage area. I installed the first node in one corner of my basement and got coverage throughout all three floors and all the way to the opposite side of the house on the top floor. There were also some cons that I would point out. The first was the difficulty in setting up the node. The app was extremely slow and constantly hung up. I had to go through the setup process at least 6 times to get the setup to complete. It took over 3 hours to get the first node working. Each time it got hung up I had to start over and reset my device. Also, it was confusing whether I was logging onto the Linksys cloud or directly to the router. I got errors that the cloud was unavailable and then it would connect to the device directly. Also, logging into the app takes a long time. I wanted to turn off my son's WiFi and it took me a few minutes before the app connected and was available. I think the app needs further development but since this is a new product I assume it will work better over time. By the way, I used the app with my iPhone 6. Another con was the internet speed. I did a speed test with my traditional router and was getting the full 60 Mbps with my previous router. On this WiFi network I consistently got 35 Mbps. I couldn't figure out what was limiting the speed since it has the same technology as my other router. The final negative about this device is that you can only plug one additional Ethernet connection into the main node. Since I have my phone (Vonage), network storage, desktop computer and printer all in my office, I am not able to connect them to this WiFi network without purchasing additional equipment. Overall, it is a solid WiFi system. I'm not sure if they sell a version with just 2 nodes, but unless you have a huge coverage area, you won't need all three nodes.

      Hi, ChrisS,

We're glad to hear that you've noticed an improvement with the wireless coverage. The setup process should be seamless and easy but It looks like you had to do it multiple times to complete. We would appreciate if you could give us more details on which part of the setup process failed, gave you error messages or ran slow in your attempts so we could see what we can do to improve it. Once everything is configured, you are actually logging into the Linksys cloud to manage your Velop nodes. The app giving you an error that the cloud is unavailable was probably due to an incomplete setup or connectivity issue on your mobile device. One of our Escalation Engineers can help you in optimizing the settings and internet speed through this device by simply emailing us your phone number and the link to this review at [email protected]. You may also call us at 800-986-0518 any time.

Do not buy this system. I am advanced at networking and bought this based on specs. The firmware is terrible. Seems like good hardware but it squanders an 800mbps ISP connection and clients get about 5-10mbps when there are more than 20 connections over three nodes. It attaches most clients to master node.

      Hi,

The Linksys Velop system should provide you with coverage up to 4,000 square feet. However, wireless interference could cause some issues with the range. Try to use the channel finder on the Linksys app to optimize the node's connection and make sure to update the Velop system's firmware.

      Hello,

There are various ways of placing your Velop System to maximize the network coverage. We recommend the parent node to be centrally located in your home and to place 1-2 nodes per floor. Make sure each node is running an updated firmware as well. Nonetheless, we'd appreciate it a lot if you could reach out to us at [email protected] so our Escalation Engineers can diagnose your setup and provide workarounds. Had to return. Getting the nodes set up is like juggling: you have to get a ball in the air first. The nodes although placed in spots that were compatible, fell out of sync. My ISP and Linksys kept pointing the finger at each other. I replaced it with an Asus gaming router and it is much better.

      Hi, Dev0,

If the child node lost connection from the other node, then physical obstructions and frequency interference are the possible reason for it. Relocating the nodes and power cycling may help us isolate the concern. We could also have our Escalation Engineers assist you further. Thus, we respect your decision and in case you have future concern with any of our products, feel free to send us an email at [email protected] with your contact info and the link of this review, for our reference.

To improve our wifi connection since we have 6 people in zoom or other virtual meetings, streaming on Netflix/Disney+, or video chatting with friends/family at the same time while sheltering in place, we upgraded our service with our internet provider and decided on the Linksys Velop mesh wifi system. Setting up promised to be a breeze with the Linksys app, or at least thats what i had expected. In reality, i ended up on the phone with Linksys support for 4 hours and still no wifi. After my service ticket was escalated to next level support, i threw up my hands, cussed a little, and gave up on Linksys. Immediately went online to purchase another brand’s wifi system which i was able to set up in under 5 minutes. Sorry Linksys, i really wanted to love the Velop as i liked the tower design and the color (black), there was great potential, but it just didn't work for me.

I was sold up to this product by a sincere Best Buy salesman who listened to very little I said beyond that my house is 5700 sq. ft. I ALSO said that I had another router in the house, had extremely poor cell phone service, and little experience with computer hardware installation. Bottom line, I am returning this router since I could never install it. First, it cannot be installed without instructions which MUST be accessed by one's cell phone. I could never access the instructions at my house. When I did get to the instructions, I was not at home; thus, didn't have the router at the place it needed to be installed. Further, the Hughes Net router in the finished basement works fine in my office - the only places I need another router are in the living room and one guest bedroom. I imagine a booster for my existing router will handle that more inexpensively than this un-installable and expensive Linksys can. I ended up buying a Netgear at Walmart for less money than Best Buy had it advertised for and things work fine.

This is a difficult product to set up, for the average home owner. We count not get a user unit to connect to the 2.4g system ( the only band it would work with). Many of our units would drop offline. The 2 sattelites would drop off line ramdomly. Very trouble some. Not worth the troubles.

      Hi 767cap,

The setup process should be easy when using the Linksys app. If you have devices that can only connect to the 2.4 GHz band, you can create a unique SSID for the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands of your Velop WHW0303B. This can be done on the web user interface, since the app does not allow this feature yet.
Furthermore, updating the node's firmware and running the Channel Finder to select the best wireless channel, can help address the connectivity issue.

This system was extremely easy to set up using my smartphone. I am able to control every aspect of this system with my handheld device. I have the master unit in my living room, one of the modules in my master bedroom and the other one in my detached garage. I have no dead spots throughout my entire 1.3 acres of property and for the most part I have full signal strength. The towers are a little big but they are aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The price range for the capabilities and power you get with this system is excellent. I would definitely recommend this item to anyone with a lot of square footage to cover.

      Hi,

Each node of the Linksys Velop Tri-Band Mesh system should provide a coverage of up to 2,000 sq ft, with a total of 4,000 sq ft for both nodes. However, we could have tried to use the channel finder to optimize the nodes and, updated the firmware.

Such excellent speeds, when it works, which isn't consistent. It reboots, freezes, the nodes disconnect many times a day. I've spent HOURS on the phone with Linksys, over 6 separate days or more, had EACH NODE replaced, and reprogrammed. Sonos problems (dropping), but the deal-killer is the RED lights, everything dead, necessitating HARD reboots - just not acceptable.

Much more attractive than my older router (which looks like a cross between a chocolate box and a set of antlers) and the coverage throughout the house is better and faster. Unpack and setup was pretty straight forward and the mobile app was easy to use. I had looked into a couple of other mesh wifi systems and I think that dollar for dollar, this measures up well and works great for us. We have three smart TVs, two tablets, two PCs, and two smartphones in the house and I was able to simultaneously stream video (yeah, I actually did that) on all of the devices without noting any lag, buffering or slow down.
