Last update in February made this mesh system absolute garbage. The app is completely useless now. Signal is intermittent at best, but had not lost signal in 9 months previous. Congrats Linksys....you've made me an eero customer. I'm very tech savvy, amd all the troubleshooting tips resulted in no change. I couldn't recommend the system in its current state to anyone that depends on reliable internet service. Not sure what they did, but they've created paperweights out of what was once was a reliable system.

ABSOLUTELY SUPERB PRODUCT! From 3 Mbps to 60 Mbps!

This Mesh WiFi system is worth every cent that you can throw at it. Our building is in a concrete Condo and I was trying to connect WiFi from the ground floor up to the 3rd floor, a total area of about 7000 sq ft. We pay for 60DL/4UL from Charter, however the effective speeds were only 3DL/.8UL that was driving me crazy!! Hard Wiring a cable was not an option as we had to drill through a lot of concrete and metal. Fast forward to purchasing this device after a lot of research on Mesh WiFi systems, I finally settled on the Linksys Velop system as it not only offers true Mesh WiFi, but I could also enable a Bridge mode so that the main Apple Airport Extreme can take care of assigning IP's etc. The installation took at maximum about 15 minutes, as soon as that was done, I was totally blown away with the results! I used SpeedSmart to test about 15 different locations across the building, after installing this system, I get anywhere between 50 to 60 Mbps, and sometimes if the load of devices connected to WiFi is too high then around 40 Mbps, but the speeds are awesome. Installation was super simple and a firmware update helped enable the Bridge mode on the Velop router. This literally change our Digital landscape! Linksys Mesh WiFi is the way to go for large spaces! If you have the money, get it, your devices would thank you!

I’ve worked in networking for 15 years. Setting up a router should take seconds. This product forces me to use their app, which is garbage. I don’t know what low-IQ person designed it, but it’s the worst app design I’ve ever dealt with. I also don’t have cell phone reception at my house, but it made me log onto an internet account to set up my device that allows me access to the internet. How did nobody at Linksys see an issue with that? I also wanted to set these up with my existing Linksys router to act as range extenders, but nobody saw fit to make the, compatible with existing routers by the same company, because Linksys thinks that little of its customers, I guess. I’ll be going back to Asus or Netgear for networking in the future.

The Linksys VELOP system is something to marvel at the moment it shows up at your door. I was floored over the quality of the packaging, you can tell this is something linksys is really proud of. (I kinda don't want to throw the packaging away because it looks that nice, it doesn't feel like something you just throw away!) And they also nailed it when you look at the design of the 3 nodes. My mother, mrs.hgtv, who thinks everything has to look nice and match! She had no problem with me putting these around the house in clear sight, as they are far from an eyesore. I have previously used 4 other linksys routers and had no problems with any of them so I knew going into using this one, especially for its price point and its method of working, that it would be great. When it came time to set everything up, it was very easy, I do not have the most experience when it comes to setting up routers and I was a little intimidated, though I've gotten better! This system was not challenging for me at all. I was really excited to see how fast the speeds would be with this system. In our home we have 5 laptops, 7 tablets, 5 smartphones, a smart blue ray player, and just added a smart 4k tv and arlo surveillance cameras. When we added the last few wifi devices to the group, I noticed a speed change with our previous router and was impressed with how velop made all these gadgets run smoother like they once did before the last router got overloaded. The linksys android app is also so easy to navigate and make changes on. Overall, this system is the way to go, and the nodes method of wifi delivery is definitely the way of the future, especially for larger homes or homes with a lot of wifi demand. Linksys nailed it with this system!

To start I would like to describe the unboxing. The box itself for the set of 3 is about 16”x10”x5”. It has a lid that is sealed magnetically. There is a felt pull tab that opens the lid to get access to the goods. It is very well packaged with everything separated into their own compartments. And each Linksys Velop node is protected with its own cardboard sleeve. Everything is very well protected. In the box is the 3 Linksys Velop nodes, 1 Ethernet cable, 3 Power adapters, Quick Start Guide, and some printed documentation. The set up guide is very easy, it says all you need to do to start the set up is download the Linksys app from either the App store, or the Google play store. The phone I am using is an Android Oneplus 3T so I downloaded the “Linksys Smart Wi-Fi” app from the play store. After opening the app and accepting some terms and permissions it immediately went to the Linksys Velop set up. It asks if your current set up is using a modem only, or a modem and router. In my situation I was using a modem and router prior to the Velop. It then walks you through the physical set up. Next in the set up you plug one of the nodes in, power it on, then use the app to search for it. It took a few minutes to locate it, but the LED turned purple indicating it's ready. The next step is to connect the node to your modem with the included Ethernet cable. Press next on the app then it will search for the node. This also took a few minutes, but it found it and then said it was “working some magic”. The next step was connecting to the Velops Wifi. This is done by notating the SSID and password from the decal on the bottom of the node. After connecting you go back to the app and either log in or set up a new Linksys account to log in. Once you are logged in you now choose your own Wifi name (SSID) and password. It will then go to “configuring your Velop network”. For some unknown reason it would get stuck at this step. I tried several times to get it passed this step but it would stay at the “configuring your Velop network” for over 10 minutes. So I tried to reboot the phone, the Velop, and the modem. I also tried to wipe the app data and start from scratch, and even reset the Velop to factory settings. No matter what I did it would not continue past this step. Eventually what I ended up doing was restarting my phone, then when I started the app it was at the Dashboard in the app. I then went into the settings and was able to manually rename the default SSID and password to one of my choosing. Then the app and the first Velop node was set up. Since the first setup didn't complete I had to manually get to the add an additional node setup. This is done in the app dashboard by clicking “setup a new product”. Once you get your additional nodes set up you are good to go. Your house should now be blanketed with strong Wifi. Just as a note each node only has 2 Ethernet ports. So if you have several devices that you normally use wired you will only have a couple open Ethernet ports. But since the Wifi is so strong and fast you will still have plenty of speed to get things done. Just for reference here is a couple speed tests I did. On my Oneplus 3T I got 179.19 MB/S Down and 12.11 MB/S Upload speeds. And on my desktop PC wired I got very similar speeds at 178.48 MB/S Down and 12.11 MB/S Upload. So there wasn't much of a difference between the wired and wireless speeds which cant be said for most routers out there. If you are looking for top notch Wifi with speed and strength and no dead spots the Velop system is what you need. And with the ease of setup using the Linksys app this is an excellent whole home or office Wifi System.

I’ve been maintaining home networks for decades and this system is complete and utter garbage. With every firmware update the nodes go offline with more and more regularity. And they simply stay offline until power cycled. Any clients connected to that node loses network access and never hops. Today I came home to my entire system being down. Not even broadcasting an ssid. I paid a premium for this product assuming I could set it and forget it. Its been 100% the opposite. And the advertised speeds arent even close to reality.

Set up is rather easy, Problem for me is that while its a nice spread, it didn't wow me. Velop can only be meshed together and cannot be used as a repeater for any other router. Can only use APP via phone only allows limited customization (which I am sure that will be remedied with a later update) Speeds are great, but for someone who still have hardwire connections with a Linksys EA9500, this one is not for me Only 2 Ethernet ports, no USB No control over Wi-Fi networks No access to advanced settings Poor value

I went through the instructed setup using the mobile Linksys app. There was one hiccup in the setup where it didn't seem to be recognizing our cox connection, but when we selected continue without it, the parent node connected to it just fine. I'm not sure what the issue was with that. I finished setting up the two child nodes and all were recognized under velop administration on the app. I like the use of the app on our phone or tablet. It is convenient to see the status of all the nodes and who and what devices are currently connected. One thing I have not looked into yet is that the list of devices that shows on the app will show a device for someone that is no longer at our house. I'm not sure why those devices don't drop off. I'd like to see the devices that are physically still here and connected. There is a lower list of offline devices you can tap on, but I'm not sure why some of the devices on the main list that are no longer in use at the time are not on this offline list. I like that the device list shows whether you are connected via 2.4 or 5ghz band. No more having to select one of these bands from our list of available networks. Lastly, we have a guest space that is some distance from our main house that we ran an Ethernet line to from our main house and router. The velop connected wirelessly over this distance, but told us that the connection could be better; I then connected it with the Ethernet connection and it works great. It is very nice to have all our devices on one network without having to worry about bridging two routers or some other setup over this distance. I like the look of the nodes and it is great that they take up less space than our previous router. I would have preferred black over the white color, but that is no deal breaker for us. I did purchase a 5 port Ethernet switch to plug into the parent node due to the number of ports we need by our main television. Some might find the price too steep compared to other routers, but we are loving the distance that the system covers and find it worth it for that reason.
