Excellent coverage and speed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a large house (4900 sq ft) on two floors. I researched several mesh wifi routers including eero, Google, Netflix Orbi, and Linksys. The Linksys appeared to have some significant advantages: three nodes instead of two, with higher area coverage per node, at about the same price (if you wait for a sale). It also has the option for wired backhaul in case you need to space them out farther than you would like. Installing was easy through iPhone. Coverage is excellent. Speed tests show 180Mbps almost everywhere. Cons: price is definitely high. Administration of the router is only thorugh iphone, not web, and is very limited. I would like more than two ethernet ports per node, but this is a failing of all available consumer mesh systems.

Parental Controls Do Not Work
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this a year ago, and recently discovered that the parental controls do not work, and has been an on-going issue. There is a 27 page thread on the Linksys forums regarding this issue, with no solution in sight. This is a major disappointment that a primary feature does not work. I would return if I could, but now have to decide if I want to spend a few hundred more on a mesh system that has actual working parental controls. Best Buy should take this product off their shelves until Linksys issues a permanent fix.

Cream of the crop
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Super fast internet speed that covers my two story townhouse. At least 2-5 ghz speeds and yes i can use up to 8 devices without any lag time at all. I would call this the king of mesh system technology. It is pricey but, with tech, you pay for what a product is worth and it is worth every dime i spent this holiday.

Flexible and powerful if you need it
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So first thing you need to understand is that this is very different from most consumer routers. It's an example of a mesh wi-fi setup, which for most people who don't have very large homes is complete overkill in terms of coverage. The box advertises up to 6000 square feet with some caveats. I wasn't able to really figure out what the upper limit might be in a real world setup, but I do feel pretty confident that you could probably at least hit around 5000 without too much difficulty. But assuming that you do have that much space you absolutely need to cover with high speed Wi-Fi, this is probably one of the more user friendly systems I've seen. A big part of that is that unlike a lot of similar systems where you have a base station hooked up to your modem and a variety of satellites, this one has gone for a more generalized design. Each node contains everything it needs to serve as either a satellite or a base router. In fact I'm pretty sure you could just set these up as 3 independent routers without any difficulty. Not only does this mean you don't need to worry about sorting out which is which when you're setting it up, but it also might help with the longevity of the system as a whole. One of the biggest issues with these that I've always seen is that if you were to invest heavily in a system only to have the router break, your only option would pretty much be to buy the starter kit again or, even worse, scrap all the functional satellites and buy the latest version. As far as I can see, you wouldn't have that issue here, and it strikes me that the system might be more capable of being combined with newer node designs as a result. As for the nodes themselves, they're attractively built pillars with good ventilation and only a single small LED at the top to illustrate status. If you're looking to determine the status of your network at a glance this isn't going to help, but for a home user the design work is quite unobtrusive while still looking suitably like something that came out of Star Trek. This is helped by a pretty good little rubber clip at one corner to help manage cables, making it very easy to hide the more technical necessities. Speaking of those, the system is rated at AC6600, basically meaning that the system's total rated throughput is 6.6gbps. If that sounds too good to be true... well, it is. Typically the speeds for these multi-band systems is arrived at by taking the sum of the maximum speed for all 3 of the wireless transceivers supported by the router (2 5ghz and 1 2.4 ghz.) In this case, the fact that the system is actually 3 separate routers has allowed them to multiply that sum by 3, so really what you're getting is 3 nodes capable of 2200mpbs. That's still fast enough to place this in one of the higher performance tiers for AC routers, but it's still on the low end of the scale there unless your traffic is physically spread out in your environment. I don't think most users will ever actually have enough Wi-Fi devices running simultaneously to create serious network congestion with something this fast and distributed, but if you're one of those rare people who can bring a router to its knees it might be worth keeping in mind that there are a lot of added factors that go into determining just how fast this system actually is. Going a step further in the technical details, this router takes a somewhat different approach to configuring it. Rather than requiring you to plug directly into it with a computer, as many routers do, this one handles all the setup through the Linksys app available for both iOS and Android. To provide a bit of extra security, each node comes equipped with a Bluetooth connection that the instructions encourage you to make use of. Given that the nodes are capable of independent use and designed to throw the Wi-Fi signal as far as possible, that's probably a good call. The App makes the setup process extremely user friendly. Once it's done, the Linksys app itself is actually very comprehensive, and the router has most of the advanced configuration features that you'd expect for something in this range. Unfortunately, at this point I do need to get into a few of the things that I didn't like much about the Velop, and the biggest one actually has to do with that app. It is compulsory at this point to use the app to setup the router and administrate it. While this isn't as onerous as it once might have been these days with smartphones being nearly ubiquitous, the lack of a traditional web-based interface is very annoying, and something that I can only hope is remedied in future updates. The other issue I have with these is that in trying to make the individuals nodes small, they've only left space for 2 wired ports in each of them. This is both a blessing and a curse. A curse for anyone who set their router and modem up right at the core of a bunch of wired devices, as it pretty much requires you to either get a much less photogenic switch to plug into or place 2 nodes right next to each other just to get 3 of them tied in. And a blessing in that it does allow you to spread your wired devices out all around the house without having to worry about it. There are no USB ports for network storage or printers to be found either. These two, ultimately, are what kept me from giving the system 5 stars. While these may make things very easy for the average consumer to deal with, more advanced users may well find themselves frustrated with the lack of features that they're used to taking for granted. All in all though, despite my issues with it, I do think the Velop might be my favorite one of these systems to work with. There are a few features that I wasn't able to test, most notably advertized integration with Amazon's Alexa AI assistant, but what I did see was a very clean, very polished product.

Bad Bad velop system
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Don't waste your money on this velop system. The app gives you virtually no control of the system. Devices don't connect to the closest node which makes for a poor wifi connection and devices then drop of the network and it hasn't extended my wifi connection at all. This system is way too much for it not to work like Linksys says it do. Worst product I've purchased in a long time. Again I warn you don't waste your money.

Posted .Hi, dcslim,
Each node of the Velop Tri-band Mesh System can provide a WiFi range with up to 2,000 sq ft, and the Linksys app lets you manage the router remotely or locally. However, you may try to use the channel finder on the Linksys app and update the firmware to optimize the system.

Outstanding WiFi at a premium price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always been plagued with weak WiFi in spots in my house. Particularly in my bedroom and when I'm in the far corner of the basement. I wanted to try out one of these new "mesh" or "blanket" systems to see if they really work. Well, I know this one does! I have full signal strength and bandwidth in every square inch of my home now. Heck, I can even keep WiFi for a great deal of my evening walks through the neighborhood :) Lets start with the basics. The set is packaged up nicely. Setup was one of the easiest I've ever done. The units themselves are very modern looking an aesthetically pleasing. I placed one unit in the far right of the house, one in the far left, and one right in the middle of the basement. I was afraid I might need to tweak the position but I had perfect coverage right off the bat. Management for these are a breeze through the app and is very user friendly. I couldn't be happier with mine but it did come at a premium. I understand many aren't going to throw out this kind of cabbage for WiFi but if you are having trouble with spotty coverage and can afford it, this is what you need!

Mediocre at best, 3rd rate app, patchy performance
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.5k sq ft house and I need 6 + 2 extenders (vs recommended three) Velop's. The system needs rebooting weekly, app does not always reflect status of individual nodes, meaning constantly rebooting individual nodes. App is VERY basic. Yes, I should replace the whole system, but I;m $1000 in and spent so many hours on support with Linksys and trying to optimize this system, If you have the time and patience - go for it. Otherwise - stay away

Extremely Unstable System
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this mesh system after upgrading my service so that we could work from home effectively. It worked well for one day, and then the nodes started losing connection. I called Linksys support every day for 3 days, and the system would work for a few hours and then drop signal again. I replaced it with an Asus mesh system that was much easier to install and has remained stable for 3 weeks with faster speeds than the Linksys.

So annoying....
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am not by any means a techy guy. This literally drops the signal and I have to reboot my system once or twice a day. Then, sometimes, I have to reset everything to make it work! Start all over, new app, everything. I probably have 10 hours into this thing. One of the nodes was bad, I didn't know. I called, waiting on hold for 30 minutes, and they diagnosed it over the phone. They are sending me a replacement. Just a total nightmare....so frustrating!

Worst WiFi "Mesh" System
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Velop WiFi system not only disappointed with speed but with customer service. Hands down the worst customer service i have ever experienced. The Velop system itself would receive a 300mbps input but would only send 50mbps. Pretty tech-savy and still couldn't figure out why even though it was working fine for months. No one on their team had any knowledge. Will be returning and changing to something that is more reliable, powerful, functional, and better customer service.

Impressed
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently upgraded to 300 mbps and wasn't getting the speeds for which I am paying. I hated the idea of renting my modem from my ISP but just to make sure it wasn't my outside line I rented one. This modem did give me the correct speed. By the way, before this I had a Motorola SB6190 and a Linksys EA9500 router. I was shocked that I wasn't getting consistent speeds with this equipment combination. In comes Velop. I connected the Velop system to the SB6190 and it has not failed me yet. Connection or speed. I have one node in my living room and another in my bedroom. I haven't had the need to connect the third one yet because I'm getting great coverage. So far so good. I've only had it connected for a couple of days but it has been outstanding. Love the app also. The way it allows you to configure setting to your liking is awesome. The only drawback (and maybe it's there but I don't know) is there is no way to switch from 2.4ghz to 5 ghz. I like to have different types of devices on different radios. But besides this everything has been great.

Not Modifiable
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had nothing but trouble since changing to this system. While it has a "channel scan" it does not default to standard channels used in this area. My signal repeatedly drops out, ceasing all internet function in my home. I have had my ISP come to the house, all to no avail. I tried to give it time to get it to work, and now I am 3 weeks past my return date. $400 lost for internet function. Don't waste your time or money.
