Maybe with firmware update
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Product worked great for a few days and then I started to experience intermittent drops and slowing. After reviewing online this is a known issue with current firmware update. Once the bugs get worked out this will be a great setup, but until then I cannot recommend.

Great design and function (after setup problems)
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There was a lot of effort put into the design and packaging of the Velop. Nodes are small and attractive enough to fit unobtrusively in any room in my home. The recessed bottom of the housing and cutout to accommodate power and Ethernet cables are nice features. Even the packaging was first rate with a ribbon tab and magnetic closures. I’ll have to think of some use for the box now that the system was set up. Setup of the parent node and first child were a breeze with the Linksys app. The second child node struggled during the “Checking your node’s location” phase and refused to synch with the other nodes. I had to perform a manual software update on the problem child and make it the parent (with LOTS of intervening resets and power cycles on both nodes) before everything finally worked as intended. Once operational, the network provided excellent WiFi coverage and speed. You might want to consider setting up your network in a limited area and then moving the “children” to their final positions when network setup is complete. The app will tell you that you could get better coverage by moving nodes away from the parent, but mine reconnected without problems after relocation. The Velop is decidedly WiFi-centric. There are two RJ45 connections at the bottom of each node, but the only truly wired connectivity is on the parent node and one of these two ports is occupied by the Ethernet connection to my cable modem. All of the wired devices on my network had to be accommodated by connecting a network switch to the second port on the parent node. I was disappointed to learn that I could not manage the Velop using a web-based user interface from my computer. Setup and management are only possible through the Linksys app running on an iOS or Android smart phone. I am not facile “typing” with my thumbs and configuration of my Velop network was cumbersome and time-consuming. Most of the functionality of a web-based UI is available in the app, including parental controls, guest access, device prioritization, reserved addresses, customized device names, and some additional features that are only meaningful in the context of a mesh network (e.g. which node is a device connected through). One problem with the app-only management is the noticeable lag between connecting a new device and its appearance as a connected device in the app. Some of my wireless devices are also miss-labeled as having a wired connection. Since it is managing the connection to each device, it should be easy to determine how a device is connected to the router and assign the proper label, but this was also a problem with the web-based UI for my previous Linksys routers. Overall, Velop offers excellent WiFi connectivity and coverage once you get past the setup and configuration phases. For me, the excellence in design and function are somewhat shadowed by the difficult setup, the lack of a web-based UI, and the cumbersome app-based configuration.

Posted .Hi, SonyCameraGuy,
There could be some factors during setup that affected the second child node from being successfully connected to the system. However, we'll definitely take note of your feedback and share it with our Engineering Team as it will be helpful for future updates. We also noticed your challenge with the details of the connected devices on the app. It would be best if you’ll email us at [email protected] with your phone number and the link to this post so we can have an Escalation Engineer reach out to you as soon as possible.

Easy set up and works great!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I spent many months searching for a WiFi extender and happened upon the mesh technology. I read all of the reviews about coverage, ease of installation, etc., and finally decided on the LINKSYS VELOP. I had the whole system up and running within 20 minutes of opening the box! The three pack of towers were neatly presented in the shipping box, the app easily downloaded to my iPhone, the instructions could not have been easier to follow, the set-up was a breeze and the system works perfectly with great coverage. The next day I set up the guest network from my PC and found the dashboard just as easy to navigate. Great job LINKSYS!

Really Excellent Whole House WiFi System
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love this whole house WiFi system! Mine has three nodes or devices. Each stands upright with a small footprint and is attractive enough to not be an eyesore wherever you need to place them. Each node comes with its own power supply. The entire thing is attractively and protectively packaged. You download the app for your smartphone (iOS or Android) and follow the steps to set up the first node (the first one acts as your router; the other nodes act as extenders for your new WiFi network). Each node has two CAT connectors in the base, a reset button, a power port, and an on/off switch. You plug in your first node's power cord and your CAT cable to your router or modem or internet wall outlet (whatever your particular setup is) and then do the walk-through steps on your smartphone to get things set up. After your first node is set up, you set up your second node in another area of the house to extend your network and, again, walk through the steps on your phone app for adding a node to your network. It will activate it, and it will also test the new node to see if it's too far from the first node or whether it's positioned properly. You continue these steps for however many nodes you have. The Velop system offers excellent bandwidth protection and throughput so that each connected device (phone, computer etc.) gets maximum availability from your WiFi network. My internet setup is a little different than most, probably. I get my signal by radio. There's a tower down the road that transmits to an antenna on my house. A cable comes into my house from my antenna that ends with a small black box called a POE. One connector allows the cable from the antenna to plug into the POE and the other connector allows you to plug in your CAT cable to your router or, in my case now, Velop node. When running the setup app, it asks if you have a router from a modem or just a modem. Apparently I went the wrong direction setting up my Velop system and it hung up on me getting my first node set up. I then went back and tried the other fork in the road for the instructions, but the process still was hung up. I finally called support and quickly was connected to a knowledgeable support person who walked me back through the process to get the first node set up. After that, I did the other two nodes myself in short order. I really don't think I would have had to call support if I had taken the right branch in the instructions (modem & router or just modem). My mistake got things snarled up, but support straightened it out pretty quickly. I'm loving the excellent WiFi coverage in my home now. Every place in our 4000 SF home has strong coverage (the 3 node kit is good up to 6000 SF). Another thing I like about it is that each device will connect to the band it's best suited to automatically. Previously, before Velop, I had to check my WiFi on my device to see where in the house I had the best signal on what band (and if it was the extender's signal or the main router's) to manually switch my device, and then switch back again if I went into a part of the house where the other band was more suitable. By the way, Velop is a Tri-band setup so this technology will serve devices not even on the market yet that will have Tri-band connectivity.

Suddenly stopped working after 3 months
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’m very disappointed. Not powerful enough
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this system to have one network throughout our whole home...unfortunately, our throughput across all devices took a nose dive, and my four teens were not happy. Went with AiMesh instead and am very happy. Everything in the house just connects to the master node, so the remote nodes are useless.

The BEST and I have proof!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My review clearly proves that Velop is THE BEST solution when compared to Orbi and Google WiFi. The reason I had to install a new solution in my home in the first place was because my Netgear Nighthawk died after 3 years. I have a 2 story 3000 sqft home, so I needed the best coverage. Additionally, over 30 devices utilize my wireless network on a daily basis. So here is my proof that Linksys Velop is the best. First, I tried the Netgear Orbi. I purchased the Orbi with 3 units. I installed the system and immediately had issues. After a bit of research what I found was a deal killer. Orbi will not communicate with a brand new Samsung Galaxy S8. It will not allow the Samsung to retain an IP address. This is a known issue. I returned the Orbi. Next I tried the Google WiFi. The device had issues from the start. The satellite units would not communicate with the base station. Even at 10 feet away, they would not see each other. This device was immediately returned. Finally, the Linksys Velop was deployed. The unit deployed with zero issues. All my devices connected without a problem. The devices communicate and performance is great. I highly recommend the Linksys Velop. In summary. Only the Velop deployed with issue when compared to the Orbi and the Google WiFi. If you want the best this is it. The management app on the phone and now on the PC work great. I'm an IT Tech with 30 years experience. It's a great product. Get you one. It works.
