My ISP provided modem just wasnt cutting it and i needed a better ignal throughout the entire home. I bought this Linksys Velop 3 pack and straight out of the box I loved it. Good quality construction! I set the first tower up within 2 minutes and the 2nd and 3rd about the same. No problems during setup, not a single problem since. EVERY device that connects to my Wifi now is at full max speed DL and UL. i really do love this product!

    Great system

I'm not an internet wiz by no means so i was a little worried about hooking up this system. All 3 nodes linked up the first night and everything worked great here at the house, however the next morning we had found out that our tenants in the apartment did not get Wi-Fi anymore. They did before this with our old system of a very high powered router with extender. So of course after hearing my wife wine and complain how the old system worked great, why did you have to change it.I was determined to make it work just so I didn't have to tell my wife she was right.I ended up spending all night Saturday & most of the day Sunday moving nodes around the property and testing things out and basically our tenants (in the back yard) had full bars wi- Fi signal all the way up until there front door.Step inside the front door and it dropped to 1-2 bars and if u walked around the apartment a bit it dropped out occasionally. After thinking it through are home was about 2,800 square feet so 2 nodes would cover our house and I relocated the 3rd down to the apartment and there hasn't been a hiccup yet.I love the app that controls everything and the fact that I can shut the kids electronic devices down when I desire. You can see how many devices are on line ,offline any time you want.It takes some time and patience to set up so that you know what devices are what and get them all named. It also took some time to get the placing of the nodes so that I have 4 full bars Wi-Fi anywhere you go on the property, but I'm in love with this system.we have anywhere from 15-20 devices running at one time with a brand new cable modem and 50mbs and everything runs like a champ.Needless to say I'm very pleased and definitely would recommend the velop system.

I recently began using a new home office upstairs. Everything in it is on my wireless network powered by the modem/router combo device from my ISP. That device sits at the exact opposite corner of the house on the first floor. WiFi was spotty. Enter Velop. Wow. Download the app. Follow the directions. Boom. Strong wifi in every part of the house--AND outside!! I can set priority for individual devices, create a guest network, see where all the bandwidth is going at any point in time, and create a blacklist of devices and/or websites for parental controls. I can turn the wifi off for any device remotely from my phone. It's completely autonomous and super easy.

I have had this item for years now. Every now and again a electrical service issue will have my contact Lynksys for reconnection and they are incredibly helpful and professional. Easy steps, clear and precise. My range is as far as my garage which is 100 yards away from my home. Highly recommend.

My internet comes in one end of the house, so I always had connectivity problems on the other end, particularly on the second floor, where the signal was basically nonexistent. No more! Two Velop nodes and fast WIFI is now available in every corner of my 3600 sq. ft. house. Set up was a breeze. The nodes are well made and easy to camoflauge behind picture frames, knick knacks, etc. The app is also very easy to use and has great, easy to navigate parental controls. I would buy this again without hesitation.

It's hard to imagine how much money I've spent on computers, laptops, smart phones, smart home automation, the list goes on forever. Only now do I realize how little I was getting out of all these great devices, now that I have the Linksys Velop system. With Mom and Dad and 5 kids (ages 16-11) doing everything from online gaming to streaming movies and everything in between. My last system was no slouch, super wiz-bang Tri-band router with 3 dual band extenders. Main floor was pulling a respectable 180down and 10up but the finished basement and the upstairs, forget about it! I was lucky to pull a 10th of that most days. My Alexa smart bulbs were slow to respond if at all, my Ring doorbell took a week to come up on the screen and on and on... I kid you not, somehow this wireless mesh system can do it all! I pull the same speeds in my basement Xbox as I do on my Mac 5ft from the modem! I have zero buyers remorse on this system. Sure there are a couple competing systems but they don't have a backhaul band (look it up, makes all the difference). The system is easy to look at on a shelf or a dresser and I have nary a complaint. This is not just another wi-if router. It's what's next for home wi-if. Oh, and the app makes set-up a snap!

This is a difficult review to write and I toyed with giving it 2 stars because of some lacking flexibility. Let's start with the positive. Functioning as a router, this item is great. The mesh wifi access is terrific and seamlessly covers my 400 sq ft house and yard.. Setup was fairly simple. just some advice, give each node time to power up or the app won't detect it. The app simplifies things and gives clear step by step directions. I gave it 3 stars becasue as a router, it is great. If you use it with Time Warner/Charter, it will work very well and replace your router. However, If you use it with Fios, it is a different story. To use it with Fios, you will need to disable the wifi on the fios router, plug the Velop into the Fios rout and it creates an completely separate network. What this means is you cannot plug other items into the fios router if you want them on the same network. Given the Velop has limited WAN ports, you might need a switch. The competition offers an "access point" mode which allows you to use the device as a wifi access point only. It turns off other router functions like DHCP leaving that to the Fios router. I contacted Linksys tech support who confirmed they do not offer this feature at this time. I do not want a second network or a network behind a network so this is a deal breaker for me. There is a way to disable the FIOS router but it is complicated and sin some cases you lose your guide and widgets. The other item that I really don't like is you can only access this router via an app. There is no web based access. Perhaps I'm old school but I find making adjustments on a web based computer much easier but there are few adjustment you can make on this. Linksys tried to simplify the router and setup so much that they over simplified it giving little flexibility to users. Hopefully Linksys will correct this with future updates. I would recomend this only if you have a provider that does not combine the modem/router and if you have basic needs.

      Hi, Ammcb,

It looks like you were able to successfully setup the device and we're glad to know that you are enjoying its performance. When setting up the Velop system, you shouldn't have to adjust your gateway settings as long as the Single Device (Modem-Router) was selected. We understand that you’ve reached our Technical Support team but allow us to have our Escalation Engineers look more closely into this. Please email us at [email protected] with your phone number and the link to this post so they can contact you.

This has been the most reliable wifi system we’ve ever used. Even after 5 years of service, we had a small hiccup after a power outage, and Linksys customer support treated us like new customers and walked us through the fix. We have a lot of square footage to cover and over 250 devices connected… this mesh system doesn’t flinch! We love it!

The mesh system is the next big thing in home Wifi. It is extremely fast and each node is equivalent to an ac6600 router. Each node also covers up to 200 sqft, which is amazing for larger house. It seems like it even overclocks my internet somehow which is also a plus. My plan is for 200 mbps down but i usually get around 240 mbps. Setup is also a breeze using the Linksys App, all you have to do is plug them in and the app does the rest!

Purchased the Velop system to improve network coverage. Setup was a breeze, but you can only setup the system with iOS or android app, no desktop. App walks through the setup process, and went very smooth. The only downside to this router was that it only have 2 ethernet ports (per router), down from 4 on my old router. Had to buy a network switch to have enough connections. System has improved speed and reliability in problem areas.

Great Wireless Solution, with a few setup gotchas

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Well, once it's all set up and configured to your liking this product is fantastic. It performs as well as promised and was a great step up from my dual-channel one unit Netgear. I found two nodes to be more than adequate for my 4,000 Sq ft house, but it's nice to know that I can add nodes later if needed. The setup was rather frustrating for someone like me who wants to use a particular LAN range for the NAT (other than the default 192.168.1.x) and is picky with how wireless integrates with the existing wired network. The Velop system and setup is admirably idiot-proof through use of the App, but it is not very customizable UNTIL you call Linksys support and find out the "secret" URL to get to all the router settings and features. Come on, Linksys, stop keeping this a secret to the masses and provide it in the documentation for fussy control-freaks like me who still like to set (or at least know) everything. Also, the firewall and routing features could be a bit more robust, and some of us are nervous allowing remote admin access of the routers to the Internet (you can turn this off, but not without digging into the secret interface). But all's well that runs well.

    Second System - Excellent

This is the second system that I purchased. This one was to be used in our home in Mexico where the walls are concrete and access points were not giving us the coverage needed. The system installed easily. The range was not noticeably better than other systems but we were able to easily rearrange the 2nd unit to talk to the 3rd unit which give us good coverage. The first system was for our 3 story home and was more difficult to install. I called customer service and they stayed with me until the system was up, working and tested in all areas. The tech support was one reason a second system was purchased.

I bought the two tower version even though my home is just over 2000 sq ft. The setup went just the way it said online. The app was easy to download and it gave specific information on things like where to put the second tower. Devices saw the network as a single network even though it had both towers transmitting. I like the concept of a matrix blanket of the WiFi in the house and on my back porch room. Nice job Linksys!

This is a great product for anyone looking for a wi-fi system capable of covering a very large house. With the option of adding multiple stations you can extend your network to cover an extremely large area, all while remaining on the same network and without any significant decline in speed. The only frustration I had was the initial setup using the app. There were issues with it lagging out for a significant amount of time, so much so that I had to close the app and restart the process several times. Other than that I have had no issues at all with this system.

The Linksys Velop is Linksys' first entry in the mesh networking segment. Technically it is not their first Whole Home solution; they actually advertised their top-of-the-line EA9500 router + RE7000 extender as such which is not unlike some of the "mesh networking" offerings also available. The Velop is what most people think of though when it comes to mesh networking. In this case, there are three identical units, that communicate with each other. Each unit provides simultaneous dual-band connectivity to clients, while utilizing a third band for mesh connectivity. This promises "full" speed connectivity to clients. Each unit also has two Ethernet ports; the unit connected to the Internet source of course loses one port for that connection, but all other ports can be used to provide wired connectivity. The Velop is intended to be simple/straightforward to configure and the first sign of this appears during system setup. You pick any of the units and plug it in, then you must use the Linksys mobile app (for iOS and Android) to connect to the unit and configure. There is no web interface for configuring via a computer (technically, there is a web interface but it just directs you to install and use the app). The initial setup takes a few minutes while it "adapts" it self to your Internet source/provider, performs updates, and customization of things like the SSID and password. Once that's done, you repeat a shorter process for any other units you want to add. (You can add units at any time; you don't have to set up all units at once.) Most importantly though, how does it work? My environment is a single-story home just under 2000 sq.ft. With a first-generation 802.11ac router centrally located, coverage was sufficient throughout the home although speeds did drop considerably in the far corners, especially if the straight-line path traversed exterior walls, sometimes making 5 GHz unusable (2.4 GHz was fine, of course). With one of the latest 802.11ac MU-MIMO routers, 5 GHz was now usable but still topped out no more than 60% of the maximum downstream speeds. With the Velop, I am able to get full speeds throughout with 140+Mbps downstream anywhere in the home. Now that's what I've always wanted/expected when it came to Wi-Fi, and I no longer regret not having Ethernet drops all over. With that said, I would prefer to have more precise control of the system. As it is, the mobile app is the only way to interact and you can't change things such as the wireless channels being used. I'm not sure if it is a conscious decision (let the system make the best choice) or something that will be added in a later update. But truth be told, the wireless system delivers what I think most buyers want: fast, reliable wireless access with a straightforward setup. Additional units can be added at any time as well.
