Great WiFi coverage in my (unusual) house
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Linksys mesh WiFi system solved a big problem I was having getting good WiFi coverage to my entire house. The house design is unusual and was not being served well by my legacy Apple Airport systems. Easy to set up, easy to program from the iOS app. Bestbuy was fast, efficient and had them in stock. Thanks!

Works Great after you finally get Set-up
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So I recently purchased my first home which has two stories so the perfect time to upgrade the Wifi network as I plan on making it a smart house. My existing wifi router worked well in my old place but lacked the power to get good reception upstairs. Moreover, I have a desktop computer without a wifi card that I want to locate in a different location than the router so the Linsys Velop system with it's modular nodes seemed to fit the bill perfectly! My first critique is that setting up this wifi router seemed to take forever. Right away, the system could not find the first node, so it had to restart searching for it. Once found, the node could not connect to my cable modem, even though it was dirtectly plugged into it! As with most computer issues, a hard power reset of the modem was done making me wait. I am utilizing the app from my phone to do all of this set-up mind you. So I try and connect to the default network but the app simply says "please wait". That lasted for close to 10 mins so I gave up and restarted the app. So I began this vicious set-up cycle again which did go better the second time. I was able to get to the step where I needed to name the network and create a password and then the app crashed to white screen. Luckily, it appears to have transmitted the data prior to crashing as I can get on the internet and don't have to prove that the third time is indeed the charm. In short, once the system is set-up, it works flawlessly! I havsgreat coverage throughout the house and it should handle the extra load from putting in smart home devices that I plan to make here shortly. The app set-up leaves a lot to be desired and I hope that I do not need to make changes. Moreover, it allows full transmission of my internet coming from my DOCSIS 3.1 modem giving me speeds of 150 Mb/s throughout my place!

Hardwired to nodes. Stable enough to game wireless
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I started by setting up the system with 3 nodes spread across my house. I immediately noticed that I now have 100% signal everywhere in the house. I was skeptical about the level of robustness I would receive wireless but after about 25 speed tests I was no longer a doubter. I decided to try to use the 5g network card in my desktop to try to game and see how it performed. This is where I was fairly disappointed. The pings in my game jumped from 72 wired to 1180 wireless. I had always planned to hardwire the (children) nodes to the parent. I added a switch to the feed coming out of the parent to feed both the children. This setup has been impressive so far. Only two nights of gaming so far.. However my pings are pretty much solid now at 72-75, with an occasional jump to almost 100. Overall I must admit that the setup has impressed me. Pros : Fast and reliable, 100% signal strength on every edge of my house. Most devices connect with throughputs close to 250-400m. Set it up, and forget about it. Cons: The app. The setup is troubled by the app. I found just closing the app completely starting back up for some reason makes it work if it acts stupid.

Great system, easy setup, fast speeds
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Was using an Airport Extreme with an Airport Express extender, but was experiencing many dead zones in my new house. Upgraded to the Velop 3 node system a couple of weeks ago, putting one on each floor of the house and am seeing reliably fast speed everywhere in the house. Setup was extremely easy and quick. Was able to use one of the nodes to hardwire an old Mac Mini to the network and create a reliably available NAS setup for my home network. A nice-to-have would be a USB built into the nodes to allow easier input of external drives/printers without the need of the Mac Mini, but not that big of a deal. Only critique I have at this point is I wish it had the ability to manually pick the node a device is connected to, as there are times I have seen a device hold on to a node connection and after going to a new area of the house where a different node would have a stronger signal, it can still hold the previous node connection too long, though it does ultimately seems to switch to the better node.

Worth the money
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.$450 might seem steep compared to the $150 for a premium router but this is much more than a triple range extender. After using an integrated dual band modem/router from my internet service provider this was a welcomed upgrade! Despite my previous router providing a "signal" to my 4600 sq ft home there's a big difference between indicated signal strength and actual signal quality. This Linksys couldn't be simpler to set up and use. It uses an app and Bluetooth to setup! Just download the app on your phone, plug in the first unit and off you go! Each unit is interchangeable, there isn't a "mother ship" and it doesn't matter which one gets the internet line. Unlike a signal booster each unit is a 100% pass through meaning it's not just passing the same channel through a repeater; it's actually receiving, prioritizing and rebroadcasting the signal at each unit! And boy oh boy can you tell! My PHONE is getting 100mb/s up and down speed! My wife's computer, game system, 4 tablets, 2 phones, 2 smart TV's and internet enabled satellite box all stream flawlessly. Also, each unit has 2 Ethernet ports so you can use the units for wired products as well!

Amazing router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have never had a better router in my life. Everything about this router, from being able to set up the router from the Linksys app to the range this router provides, this router is the best you can possibly get. I have 60 mbps from spectrum and this router lets me enjoy that and more. This router is definitely a good buy!

A step in the right direction, a couple back
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a proud owner of many Linksys products, I have to say I have mixed feelings about the Velop system. Don't get me wrong, the connection quality and speed provided is leaps and bounds above competitor's similar products. The setup, however was a bit "touchy" and why I have taken a star away. At first, the linksys app would not recognize the initial "node". It took force closing the app multiple times, and restarting my mobile device's bluetooth multiple times for this to occur. Then, the app couldn't make a connection from the node to the router. More restarting of the app was required. Once this was completed, the 2nd and 3rd nodes connected with no problems. I'm far from a tech "newbie", and administer several servers for various companies, so it certainly isn't "operator error". With that aside, I have a 120Mbps internet connection when previously hardwired to my modem - with Velop, I get 120mbps over wifi! That, to me, is worth the price of admission alone. I have no doubts that Linksys, over the next couple months will be working out the "bugs" in the setup process. But still, If you want a rock solid internet connection, and don't mind a bit more lengthy setup process with "hiccups" along the way - get this system. ONCE IT IS setup, you'll be thankful you did.

Seamless & Stylish Whole Home WiFi System
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Linksys Velop Whole Home WiFi provides seamless wifi coverage for up to 6,000 sq ft! Now, I don't have a home large enough to fully test that, but I can tell you that I was able to go pretty far out to the very back of my modest backyard and still had good wifi signal--something I couldn't do with my previous wifi and range extender setup. In addition, seamless really is accurate. There no need for you phone to switch between your primary wifi and range extenders or other networks. With Velop, your home will have ONE wifi with ONE name. I couldn't really tell any difference between being in the room with the node, or several rooms away. That's a great plus. Speaking of setup, despite having 3 nodes, installation and setup was a breeze. Linksys has a great app (and printed directions) that walks you through the process step-by-step. It's all pretty intuitive and easy enough for a casual user to setup within 10-15 minutes. Each of the nodes is said to cover up to 2,000 sq feet. These nodes are pretty stylish which is unusual when it comes to wifi systems. No ugly antennas or 18 blinking lights. Only a simple dim LED on the top. It looks like a modern technology accessory and I'm very impressed. For those interested in more of the abilities, the MU-MIMO (Multiple-User, Multiple Input, Multiple Output) allows all of your gadgets to connect. Velop will automatically determine which frequency (it is a tri-band wifi) your device needs to be on to maximize usage. The app also has pretty great admin access right from your smartphone. You can block internet access and allow only local access, set up priority devices so your TV/streaming or gaming systems don't have any lag because someone else has decided to download 10 movies at one time. Here's my summary: Pros: -Coverage area (even and fast--everywhere) -Functionality -Setup -Style -App allowing admin access Cons: -Price

Airport Extreme/Airport Express Replacement
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Background: 5000 square foot, single story, L-shaped house. Prior setup: Airport Extreme at one end of the "L" and an Airport Express to extend the range of the network at the corner of the "L." This allowed a good wifi signal *almost* to the other end of the "L," but not quite good enough. Setup of the Velop nodes via the iOS app was very straightforward as noted in previous reviews. There was some "hanging" which I think may be related to bluetooth issues. Perhaps a bug that can be fixed via firmware. Anyway, the app guides you on placement of the 2nd and 3rd notes, again, as other reviews have stated. My 2nd node was placed at the corner of the "L" and the 3rd node at the far opposite end of the "L." This basically got my whole house blanketed in fast, stable wifi that didn't require "re-connecting" if going from one end of the house to the other. With my Airport setup, even though my network was a single SSID with the Express extending it, we had to sometimes turn wifi on our device off and then back on again when going from one end of the house to the other in order for the device to pick up the stronger signal provided by whatever was in closer proximity (ie, either the Extreme or the Express). However, it's not all Madame George and roses. There are a few things worth mentioning. There is no router "control panel" accessible via the router's IP address. Everything is done via the app. And, there is not any tweaking that can be done. So, if you're used to advance router controls and tweaking many different settings, you won't be able to do that with the Velop. Also, the nodes each have only two ethernet ports with the main node using one for WAN and one for LAN. And, no USB. So, the main take home is that if you want good, strong, widespread wifi throughout your house and you're not too worried about fiddling with network intricacies, then the Velop is great. I highly recommend it.

Finally, a real whole-home solution
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I struggled getting strong WiFi coverage through my home for over a decade. I continued to purchase more expensive wireless routers with more power, more antennas, more everything, always falling short of the elusive whole home solution, until now. I almost removed a star because of some original setup issues and the cost, but once I had the system up and running, the ease of use, speed of connection, and my overall satisfaction went far beyond all expectation, and even beyond what I had hoped to achieve. My house is only about 2600 sq ft, but my walls are made of kryptonite and especially in one large section, nothing would penetrate. Those days are over, I now have full 4-bar coverage throughout every inch of my house, and at least 3-bar coverage to the parameter of my yard with speeds of 110Mbps download and 6.4 Mbps upload. No more cluster of various routers, bridges, extenders and gadgets , I now have a single mesh network throughout the whole house comprised of 3 smart looking Velop nodes that do more than I would have ask for. Thank you Linksys, your Velop system really does perform as advertised.

Good coverage, limited options
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My house suffered from WiFi dead spots, even with one of the most powerful WiFi routers on the market. There was an office on the far side of the house that needed an ethernet-over-powerline setup because the WiFi wouldn't reach, even with a range extender in between the base station and the computer. A three-unit Velop setup eliminated those dead spots and provided full bandwidth availability throughout the house. Setup was simple, although maybe too simple. Given that I was starting with a sophisticated router and multiple hardwired connections to that router, I wanted to add the Velop system downstream of that router. The system setup does not provide any other options than to make one of the Velop units your primary router. Each unit has two ethernet ports in the base. One of those must be used for the first unit's connection to your modem, but there is no indication what the other plugs are capable of. It would be nice if they would provide wireless access points, but my choice of unit placement, at least for this initial trial run, did not involve testing whether that was possible. I did manage to set up my original router in parallel with the Velop system to provide those wired access points, but if you have a lot of wired connections, you can't rely on the Velop access points to provide those connections. Again, setup was very easy with the linksys app, and that app provides a lot of additional information about the system while it is running. It can also identify and troubleshoot problems that might arise after installation. Overall, a sophisticated and attractive system, but I'd like more configuration options.

Plug & Play
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Lynksys Velop has given me full coverage in all areas of my home which is approx. 4,200 sq. ft. wireless speed tests are over 300 megabits down and 24 up. I am now able to take advantage of the internet speeds that I am paying for. Very easy to set up and get going. A little pricy, but worth every dollar.

Excellent whole home wifi
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Linksys Velop wifi system works extremely well for what it is intended for. It provides great coverage and throughput throughout the home. It was fairly easy to set up with the (required) Linksys app. I did have a few minor issues with the Linksys app not detecting each new node when I set it up the first time, but re-scanning for the node a second time found it. Again, this is intended for wifi coverage in a large home and for that purpose it works wonderfully.

Great Coverage, Difficult Setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My old internet setup was a wireless modem/router in the basement with an extender on the first floor. Internet speed was OK in the basement and I was getting 2 - 3 mbps on the first floor on a good day and no Wi-Fi outside. Now I have speeds exceeding 20 mbps (what I pay for) and I have coverage in the farthest reaches of my yard. I have about fifty different devices connected at any given time and have plans to connect more soon. Setup was difficult at first, I had to have the additional satellitenodes within a few feet of the primary to get them to connect (even thought I was well within the forty foot recommended range) and I had to install each satellite node at least twice. Overall, the first setup took almost two hours. The next evening my ISP went down and I had to reinstall the entire system a second time. The second installation took about an hour. Overall, this is a great system and all of my smart and Wi-Fi connected devices are working much better.

Easy to setup, strong performance
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the easiest WiFi router setup I've ever had. I've setup various Linksys, Netgear and Apple products over the years and finally, a company developed a simple setup. Just download the app on your phone and follow the instructions on the app. It really is "plug and play". Coverage is strong throughout the house. I'm in a 2,000 sq ft 2 story house. Download speeds range between 96 Mbps if I'm in the corner of the house/downstairs to 180 Mbps if I'm just a few ft away from the main node. (Hard wired download speeds would be up to 200 Mbps.). Consistent coverage wherever I go. I'm impressed and pleased with this Mesh Wi-Fi system. FYI, if you buy this at a bricks and mortar Best Buy, make sure that they give you the sale price and not the full list price. The display and the cash register had the full list price and I had to pull up the price on the Best Buy app to get the correct sale price.

Solved the nightmare for a large home
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Unbelievable solution. After a thunderstorm knocked out a switch and 2 dedicated access points, we've had nothing but problems with our traditional router and AP solution. We suffered with spotty coverage and bandwidth - Netflix constantly buffering, IPads dropping. AGGHHH. Enter Velop. Recommended by one of Best Buy's terrific networking specialists in our local store. No more issues - it is blazing fast - Our 8,000 house now has perfect coverage!!! 30 + minutes to set up as firmware uploading is slow, but worth the wait. The ability to plug in smart TV's located near each of the nodes is very convenient. I also like that each device is truly interchangeable - it is a true mesh system. Linksys 24/7 live support and 3 year warranty is amazing. Highly recommend for any large home struggling with getting great coverage. Linksys is offering a special price for an extra node under a program for "tricky" environments. I will use this to provide blazing coverages around the pool and outdoor kitchen. Nice nice nice. Thanks Best Buy

Quality Router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The router provides good coverage throughout the home, and in fact, I receive slightly higher speed test figures for downloads than I'm even paying for through Spetctrum in certain areas of my residence. My PS4 did, however, only clock in at 30 Mbs download instead of 100Mbs even though I had two nodes right next to it. Additionally, I like to keep a few devices directly connected to my router via ethernet, and each node only has two ethernet ports. There then becomes a trade-off between making sure the nodes are positioned so as to have the most expansive coverage, while also having the nodes where I can plug ethernet into them for older devices (e.g. printer; 2nd gen apple tv) that take an ethernet cord but don't work well with wifi at all. I won't truly know how great the router is until moving, as I have three routers in a space of only 1,000 sq feet, so it's a bit overkill for now, but I got the device purposely for future moves to larger living quarters.

Very good except a buggy app
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The setup was easy, the speeds are great. The app is very buggy. It does not show the connected device list correctly. I have about 12 devices connected including my phone, the connected device list does not even show my phone. The web interface shows the correct devices but it does not show which device is connected to which node. I would also like to see when a node is connected using an Ethernet backhaul, I would like to know that, there is no way to know whether a node is in wired or wireless backhaul in the app or in the web interface. The setup though was very easy. I would like to add a page in the app talking about wired backhaul, I had to visit FAQ in the site to figure out how to do it. All in all I always used linksys and I picked this ahead of the netgear orbi even though both are in the same price range. Haven't compared orbi myself yet, but my speeds are not disappointing. I hope linksys fixes the app bugs sooner.

Easy Setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I installed 3 Velop nodes in my home. The setup with the Linksys app was very easy and fast. I did not have problems adding additional nodes as some of the other reviewers did. You just have to follow directions explicitly without skipping steps. The coverage is outstanding. I have WiFi in parts of my home that never had WiFi before. No more buffering music while in the shower. The only worry I had before I purchased the Velop system was that the Velop system had no browser interface and I needed to forward several ports for my security cameras and other uses in my home. I also needed static IP address for my Security DVR. To my surprise port forwarding was a 2 click operation. Static port also was a 2 click operation. Never have I found anything so easy. BEST PURCHASE EVER. On the negative side, I would love to see Linksys expand the app by adding things like being able to tell which Node you are attached to as you walk around your home. I would also like to see a browser interface for power users, although not necessary.
