I've had issues with my previous first gen D-Link AC750 router and was hoping to fix those with a Velop. Well I am blown away at its performance and ease of set up! I ordered it on a Saturday around 11pm and it arrived at my door mid day Tuesday, awesome shipping! The setup up is easy, although the app is horrendous and needs to be critically tested and updated, it worked just fine for the set up. The router functions as it should and performs flawlessly. I have a far better field of coverage and a steadier network. No hiccups or lag whatsoever. My Velop didn't need any updates like other reviewers have mentioned. My internet speed from Xfinity is never consistent but I never notice anymore with this router! It has definitely made this customer happy. My one complaint is the very unnecessary, extravagant packaging. Tone it down! It is nice but you could package 2 in the same size box, which makes the price go up for packaging costs.

Finally a system that can take advantage of my gigabit speed. I live in a 3 level townhome and have a unit installed on each floor. I'm getting anywhere from 120mbps to 680mbps throughout the home. I have 36 devices connected (thermostats, nest cameras, Nest smoke alarms, televisions, hue lights, sonos, bloomsky etc). Everything works flawlessly and I'm getting great speeds without any dead spots. My Macbook Pro connects on the AC channel consistently. I've used the nodes as means to hook into ethernet devices and they integrate into the network seamlessly. I'd previously tried plumewifi and google wifi for "mesh" attempts and prior to that had tried netgear extenders. None of them were able to deliver the speed i needed/wanted/pay for. I think the dedicated backhaul channel is making the difference, but I'm not technically astute enough to know the exact reasoning. But, what I do know is that I've run multiple speed tests to and from different locations and I'm very pleased so far!

Replaced my router for whole house coverage

I added whole house automation to my expanding connected home. The VELOP router kit from Linksys provides whole house Wi-Fi coverage. The kit of three (3) identical white bricks come nicely packaged in a heavy duty 'case'. Love the care given to getting the product to me in one or should I say three pieces. Any of the bricks take the place of your home Wi-Fi router. Just plug in the power cube, Ethernet cable from cable modem, and run setup. Each device has two (2) RJ-45 ports on the bottom, mac address, setup Wi-Fi SSID, and reset PIN. Write those down; you'll save time during setup. Setup is straight forward. You are guided by the units LED which turns different colors with the final blue glow of success. Following the free downloaded app, or web browser, each additional brick is quickly connected until you have strong, secure signals throughout the house, garage, and yard. You get to name each unit as I did, Master Bedroom, Family Room and Living Room (whatever you choose). You can add one or more if needed depending on your home or apartment's layout and number of connected devices. If you need to hard wire a PC or other device, the two high speed ports connect easily to a smart switch or directly to your PC, etc.,. I added one of my existing Linksys range extenders for my TABLO.TV recorders. Works great, streaming video with no hesitation. What I really like is the aesthetics of the units. They blend nicely on a shelf or tabletop instead of calling attention to themselves. All my settings can be set via the app or sign into your Linksys account online. Works like a champ.

I've had this whole-home wifi system for about a week now. Everything is working as advertised and much better than my previous router. Setup took 15 minutes from unbox to speed test. Simply follow the walk through in the Linksys app and you're up and running. I highly recommend.

    Great product

Extremely easy to set up and install. I used the router name and password from my old router and did not have to set up any of my devices to work with the Velop system since they were already connected to the old system with the same name and password. I have great connectivity throughout the house now. Other than great connectivity, the other great thing about it is that the entire system has only one network name, so when I carry a device to another room, I am still connected to the same network my printer is connected to and can print from any room. This was a problem with my old router and extender because I had 3 different network names, but I could only print from the one the printer was connected to. Accordingly, I had all but stopped using the extender. The only negative thing about the Velop system is the cost. It is very expensive. Still, I prefer Linksys over all other networking equipment.

After evaluating all options with the sales person, we had a very specidic requirement that only the Velop could handle. We bought a 3 pack and after the very easy set up, we only needed 2 of the unit in the house. We live in the country and only satelite internet is available. Before the Velop system, the wifi was very spotty and constantly dropping. With the Velop system this is no longer an issue.

Been researching these mesh networks for a few weeks. My combo modem/router in my office upstairs puts out a horribly weak signal downstairs, needed a fix. I picked up the two pack for $349 at Best Buy yesterday, hooked up today. You download the app, which walks you through the setup process. Literally I found a spot in the open for my first node, plugged into the modem with the included Ethernet cord, plugged into the wall, followed the app, and in minutes it was connected. I then found a spot downstairs centrally located, plugged second node into the wall, followed app, and it easily synced up. That's it!! You can tweak whatever you want on the app, also very easy. My wife has commented at least three times already how great her laptop and phone are running on the network, and my phone and tablet are as well. Signal has been strong and steady. Excellent product and well worth purchasing. You won't be disappointed.

We have a lot of electronics that we have connected to our wireless network. We tried WiFi extenders and it just didn't work like this system does. It took me about 10 minutes to set this up. There really isn't much to do to get this running. As soon as we set it up, our Internet speeds were amazing. It used to be that I could not browse the Internet on my phone using our WiFi because it was so slow. Not anymore!

Set-up was fairly straightforward. Just unbox, plug your first "node" into the wall and cable modem, load up the Linksys app and follow the on-screen prompts. The unboxing was quite pleasant as everything packaged reminded me of a certain company from California. One thing to be aware of is that currently you are not suppose to use this with an existing WiFi router. This is supposed to be used as a standalone product. Hopefully with future firmware and app updates that will change. Another good thing is that if you have 3 or more nodes you can set the first node up as the "parent" node and be the workhorse for the latter 2 nodes to easily allow more bandwidth to your devices. Currently, these must be set-up and maintained with the available iOS/android app and can not be fine-tuned like most WiFi routers by going to 192.168.1.x I've used the tri-pack node setup for 3 weeks so far and can report that I've not had any issues so far. I do hope they allow future refinement by the user for using these on-top of an already owned WiFi router + tinkering with even more Velos settings. I understand its marketed towards being easy to set up and just let it do its own thing and work (which it is!), but some people would prefer to add these on to prior routers to further extend their WiFi network and tinker with all the settings!

    Good but not great

The product was somewhat difficult to setup. Many times I had to reset the nodes and restart my phone or the App because it couldn't recognize the second or third node I was setting up. I have set this up now at my own home and have setup similar products before as well. I would say if you get a discount on this product it is definitely worth it. However being the same price or more as an Eero is ridiculous. Eero is a very simple setup that even the average person could create their own network with little or no issues. I feel with Lynksis Velop you need to have more experience with setting up networks to do it right. With that being said though, the range and speeds are great. I can walk down the street and still pick up my WiFi signal. All and all I would recommend this if you are somewhat savvy with electronics and its on sale.

best wifi decision I have ever made

I am about a week into using my new velop system and it is amazing. i am knowledgeable when it comes to wifi and was using an Asus AC5300. because of where we have to have the modem set up, we had a dead spot in the harder to reach places so we had an extender. The AC5300 was great until it wasn't. It had to be rebooted daily. The extender worked only when it wanted. Did my research and found that the Velop and Orbi were the best on the market at this time. Most reviews said that the Orbi needed to be located centrally in the home which would not work with my setup. So I went with the more expensive Velop. I could not be happier. The setup was quick and amazingly easy. Anyone do follow the steps and set this up. It has worked flawlessly. No more changing bands or routers going room to room. No more dead spots. One wifi to log into and the rest takes care if itself.

First of all I just want to get the biggest thing out of the way. I really like Linksys' interface for their mobile and desktop apps over any other. I've had ASUS and Netgear as well and Linksys quite simply is the best. It's easy to find settings. I can get remote access to the router wherever I am with Linksys' app, and it just works really well and is reliable. Beyond that I just don't know about the asking price of this router. I mean $500 dollars is a lot of money for a router. I know that state of the art has a high price premium with it, but you really have to start asking yourself just how much is enough. Would I recommend this for most people looking for a great home networking setup? No, there are adequate systems out there for less than half the money. Would I recommend it for someone who hates buying and setting up new routers and has a massive home? Yes, but that's a lot to ask. It is quite simply the best router I've ever reviewed, and I've had Linksys EA9500, and Netgear's Orbi Routers. Both are terrific routers that push the boundaries of what wireless networking can do and would be great for even high end Google Fiber and Comcast Multi-Gig setups. This is a router for those who must have state of the art or for those who have a lot of disposable income. I can't dock it points for being expensive. You make that decision yourself, but I can say that I haven't had any issues with it at all, and the setup process is pathetically easy.

I've set up dozens of new routers in my life, so I thought this system would be a breeze to setup, but it was a long, drawn out process. It seemed easy enough, using your cell phone, after downloading the linksys app, but, it took me numerous attempts with my Nexus 6 to get the modem and the first unit to sync; eventually, I used my pixel xl phone, and it finally made the connection. Be aware you may have to use the back button on your phone to go backwards in the setup menu, which i had to do to get the initial setup to complete. After the first unit was setup, it was a breeze to get the other 2 units to connect to the network. I've tested it running 2- 4kUHD streams and a 1080p movie wirelessly, with out a hitch, and at the same time got top speeds while running speed tests at the same time, so, having enough bandwidth was no issue; I have a total of 15 devices connected to my network, and they all connect as fast as they ever did with my previous top of the line router. I have the units on 3 different floors in my house, and the speeds are the same on all 3 levels, so this system can easily handle a large house with multi floors. This will definitely solve any wifi coverage issues you may have had in the past; just make sure you have at least an hour to work on setting up the 3 stations!

Great whole home wifi - just as fast as ddwrt3200

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I originally purchased the DDWrt3200 linksys router because I liked the features that the device had (firmware customization, Bluetooth, etc). The device was much stronger than my N750 router I had before, but the range wasn't where I thought it would be. We had problems printing with some devices because our wireless signal strength was poor upstairs where the printer is setup - plus I have an office upstairs. I needed fast wifi..but I needed range. The Velop system is perfect for this. I'm getting about the same pass through for internet speed and the range is incredible. My wife didn't even mind that the device is out and not hidden - as it kind of goes well with our furniture. I was skeptical at first about the Velop as I had tried the Luma system which had worse speed and range with just one device than my older router. This linksys system is perfect for range and speed.

I found this system to be very easy to set up and put into service. The app basically walks you pretty quickly through the set up process. It also evaluates the locaion of your nodes to determine best signal strength. I am happy with the extended wi fi range we now have in our home that this product provides. I definitely recommend it if you have spots where the signal is weak or slow.

I was skeptical at first about this product, especially since I'm no novice when it comes to technology. This router/wireless mesh network appliance is great for those who have a rough time with technology but those of us who are more advanced will find it a tad more difficult to fine tune. It wants the Linksys app to configure it with, that's great and all for those who just want to plug and play. But I like logging into the web interface and man, Linksys doesn't make this easy! These cubes are also great for adding more and more to your home IF you need them. I actually plan on buying a single one for a total of 4 on my home network. If your looking to get a hassle free wireless network router system for your home..... this is worth every penny!! Great Job Linksys, but how about making life easier for us advanced users ....please!!! Test4echo3 ;)

Home wireless approach to internet access throughout the house just got easier with the new Velop system. It is a three-pack of wireless "nodes" that promises “whole-home coverage” (up to 6,000 square feet) packaged in small, sleek obelisk-like structure. Like the other wireless mesh systems, setup is done via mobile app, and offers features such as easy guest network access setup, parental controls and some basic device prioritization. The Velop whole-home Wi-Fi system comes with three identical nodes. After connecting the first node to a broadband modem, the other two create a wireless mesh network. While the Velop utilizes dual-band frequencies for its network (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), it does this in the background – users don’t need to create separate (or similar) names for those frequencies, like you would with other traditional routers. Instead, you create one name for the network and the Velop system decides in the background whether the data travels over the 2.4 GHz space or the 5 GHz space. My best guess is that this depends a lot on whether the client supports 5GHz, as well as the distance/signal strength of the client to the closest node. These brand new units offers a different (and easier) approach to providing home wireless coverage. Plus the set-up through the app makes it so much easier than looking at diagrams and guessing what they mean!
