This device has been wonderful. I now have absolutely full and fast coverage in all the corners of my house. I have ATT Gigabit Fiber and am able to get 500-600 download speeds on my iPhone X! Highly recommend this product for anyone who has a big house or one with many walls/arches. This completely fixed out issues.

I liked the simplicity in the setup of this but it is as powerful as advertised. I started in the basement as that is where the isp comes in. 2nd on main floor as central as possible. 3rd master bd rm. the first floor is ok but by the time I was on the 3rd floor it was only connecting at 20% of my internet speed. My old solution was more powerful. Also cannot change the ip scheme or dhcp scope. There should be a way locally to access those settings.

      Hi, KKCNIck,

The Velop system is equipped with features to ensure a maximum wireless performance throughout home. This challenge could've been affected by the placement of the third node but for further isolation, allow us to have an Escalation Engineer contact you. Please email us at [email protected] with your phone number and the link to this post so we can endorse you to the team.

Loved the idea of Mesh Wifi for the house, single "network name" and coverage from one end of the house to the other. Super easy to set-up, and also love the ability to "prioritize" devices connected to the network. Time will tell on the reliability, but good so far. A little pricey, but if it delivers as advertised, worth it.

Limited Features Not Worth the Cost

I had high hopes of the Velop mesh wifi system after reading about it from CES reviews. However, that excitement quickly faded as I started to setup and use the system. I setup the first Velop node (connected to my modem) with no issues. Setup through the app was easy. The troubles came when I started to setup the second node. I have ethernet cable running around the house so had planned on using the nodes connected via ethernet to improve connectivity and throughput. Everything I read indicated that this feature was possible. The second node was being installed about 30 feet away from the primary node (two walls separating them). I plugged the second node into my ethernet cable and started setup via the app. The app hung on the testing mesh connectivity screen. I called Linksys to get help (I quickly connected to an agent which I really appreciate). After explaining what was going on, she indicated that the system should NOT be connected via ethernet cables as it was not designed to do that. That’s opposite of everything I read. So I disconnected the ethernet cable and tried setup again (this time connecting second note wirelessly to primary). Still could not setup. The agent advised moving the node closer to the primary and trying again. I did this with success and then moved the node back to the original location. I was shocked that I couldn’t setup a second node only 30 feet and two walls away from the primary. The picture in the app while setting up the node shows the second node on a completely separate floor across the house. Not my experience at all. I setup the third node (by placing it next to the primary and then moving it) and it went fine having learned from the troubles of the second node setup. After having the system setup and using it, here were my observations: Pros: * The Velop system looks great - don’t have to hide nodes * Setup of the primary node easy using the app * Throughput is solid - not as high as my existing mesh system (Google) likely due to not being able to connect via ethernet * Wifi covered entire house easily (4500 SqFt) * App is easy to use (for average user, see cons below) * Quick connection time with customer service agent Cons: * Setting up additional nodes can be finicky. Must be VERY close to primary node * Does not support connecting nodes via ethernet likely resulting in reduced wifi throughput * The app, while great for basic functionality, allows very limited advanced capabilities. You have to use the Linksys app to access the router so there are very few advanced abilities (like you would get if you accessed router via web browser). * You cannot reserve a custom DHCP address for a device. You can reserve the address assigned to the device currently, but not specify what address you want reserved. * You can’t change the ip range assigned to devices * You can’t see what Velop node a device is connected to. You have to “trust” that it is connected to the best node. Overall, the Velop mesh system is a good choice for many customers. However, given the limited advanced features and high price tag (hundreds more than other similar systems), I have to recommend that customers look at other mesh network options. Sadly, the Velop system doesn’t outshine it’s competitors enough to justify the higher cost. Hopefully with some much needed firmware and app updates, the product will live up to its price.

      Hi, Bobcats9498,

Hardwiring the nodes to one another should work. They just need to be configured wirelessly at first. Here's an article for your reference: http://www.linksys.com/us/support-article?articleNum=217442

Having said that, we would still recommend using Velop to Velop wireless connectivity to achieve optimum network speeds. If you’d prefer us to walk you through on how to do this along with other specific configurations that you'd like to achieve, please email us your phone number and the link to this post at LinksysCares@linksys.com so that one of our Escalation Engineers can help you optimize the settings on the app.

    Substantial Upgrade to WiFi Performance

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this pair of units to use as satellites with a MR8300 as the main router. Together, the system provides a substantial boost to both bandwidth and coverage in the entire house. Handoff of mobile devices between routers is generally smooth, although occasionally a manual reconnect is necessary. There were some setup issues, since the auto-configuration firmware does not take into account all the features that I use. Users who use out-of-the-box setup will probably not have problems, but because of the configurations I use I needed to spend > 1hr on the phone with Linksys support to get the system working. That said, the phone support was dedicated, and the handoff to level 2 was smooth. High marks for initial quantity. Lower for value, as the system was pricey (although competitive with similar units). Average ease of use for setup problems mentioned.

I like how the product is packaged in the box. It comes with 3 nodes that you can set up in your house for maximum coverage to avoid dead zones. Also, the Linksys app makes it easy to set every thing up. So overall, I would recommend this product because of the quality that you get upfront.

I have been using the Velop for about a week now and I am very pleased with the performance and consistency as it is equal or better than all other routers that I used (Google wifi, Orbi, eero and luma). If you want more customization maybe you should look at regular routers like Netgear Nighthawk or Linksys AC5400. This is somewhat customizable but you are limited to the phone app. Speeds are really fast and consistent. I get 125mbps down and 23 up (Comcast} throughout my 4,000 sf house and more. The 3 nodes are supposedly covering 6,000 sf of property. This is way more than enough for my needs. I was using Google WiFi before this but had to return it due to not allowing whitelisting of my Box Edit app. Currently I have 33 devices connected. Overall I gave it 4 stars since there is no web app and customization is limited to parental controls, device prioritization, internet settings (DHCP, Static IP, PPPoE,PPTP, L2TP), port forwarding and WiFi MAC filters. This device allows Guest Network.

Easy installation. Only hiccup was having to go back and set to bridge mode to work with my existing router. Easy firmware updates, setup simple as can be. Finally the whole house has coverage without having 4 different network names that I had to manually switch to every time I moved to a different room.

I have always had difficulty setting up networks with one router much less three and spent many hours with tech support. The Velop changed that. The mobile app worked perfectly and set up was a breeze. I now have excellent coverage throughout the house. I replaced a Linksys AC1900 router and range extender.

    Finally!! Great WIFI Signal!!

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Finally I have 100% WIFI in every square inch of my house!! I've always had two WIFI routers running in my house and they still couldn't cover my whole house. According to Linksys, I only need one Velop for my house, but with my WIFI setup in the basement, and my house being a 2 story, I knew I'd need at least 2 Velops to cover the house. Best Buy didn't have the 2 pack, so I ended up buying the 3 pack and placed one Velop on each level of my house. Setup was extremely simple. Although my 3 Velop did have problems connecting, but on the second attempt it connected to the system. Every square inch of my house now has full WIFI signal strength. My only complaint would be that I wish Linksys would allow me to access the system while I'm away from the house. Outside of that, the system does exactly what it says it does. On a side note, I now have a decent signal if I'm out in my yard as well. My wife works from home and during the summer she loves to sit out on the back porch and work but really hasn't been able to because the signal was to weak to work from...now she can!

We've used extenders for our WiFi and none of them compare to this system. It fills every room in the house, even with a closed room door. Worth every penny. I highly recommend this system if you have WiFi issues in a larger home. Very easy set up with an app on a Mobile phone. Just get it, you'll be happy

The system works great. The app is not so great.

The system works great. I now have coverage in areas that were always dead or difficult before. I was previously using three different wifi access points and they did not work well together. Some nodes would drop out or the device would connect to a distant node instead of a closer node. Now I have seamlessly good coverage throughout the house. The app is not so great. The app worked well for setting up the system, but it is not very good at keeping you informed about what is happening. It supposedly shows you which devices are connected but it is rarely accurate and it does not update. In fact, you have to delete the app from memory and restart it in order to update the connected devices. It would be nice if it showed you the signal strength at each node and which devices were connected to each node. It doesn't. If the network is not working right, it doesn't tell you what is wrong. It doesn't even tell you what the lights on the Velop nodes mean (you have to go to the website and hunt). Overall, it has been worth it because I now have WiFi everywhere.

Awesome product! Setup was super easy with the linksys app. Had a modem w/ and added an extender but still had horrible speeds and multiple dead spots. Hooked up two of these and now have my full speed throughout the house with dead spots and i only needed two. Might hook up the other just because i have it.

I wish I would have known about these a while ago. I have had a linksys router and extender which I thought were doing quite well. I use the extender for my PC mainly and noticed I was having to reboot my extender quite a bit due to speeds slowing. My next issue was I moved into a new house that has a separate building outside that has 2 wifi openers and a ring camera attached. The ring camera was slow to come up in the app if at all and the openers were a bit quirky but most of the time worked just fine. Well I got tired of all that and it appears my problem has been solved. Yes I paid a premium price for these but nothing is laggy at this point at all and that is almost priceless when things work as they should. These are definitely a premium product in my opinion and worth the money. For me I didn't see paying the extra 40 bucks for the black ones. It's super nice to go anywhere in my home or shop and have consistent wifi.

Best of the mesh system I have tried

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have tried three of the mesh systems on the market. This is the best so far. It is very easy to setup and covers most home users needs to get online with multiple devices with very little trouble. The automatic configuration of client band i.e. 2.4 ghz and 5 is really a pleasure. I have a number of 2.4 devices and not having to worry which band I need to set up really is nice. I am a bit disappointed in the overal maximum speed I show as my downloading. I have At&T 45 internet and I consistently got 40-50 gbs using the At&T router gateway. The best I seem to get with the velop is 38 and seem to average in the high 20's to low 30's. I generally only have four or five devices active so I doubt the system is overloaded when I have a free moment I'll give Linksys support a call and try to improve my speeds. The three units I have a nice looking and easy to put in a non obtrusive location and still give great coverage.

This was everything i expected it to be but not much more. This system was waiting to happen it was just about who was going to have it the best at the best price and this is it simply put. Maximizing ones wi-if to the fullest to each device will running "some wired" connection is what internet connection is always been about. That what this system is all about. Everyrthing you have come to expect and nothing more.
