Nodes OK, app terrible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Units appear to work OK. The app, however, needs serious work. Screen colors (light grey on dark blue or light blue on white) make tings impossible to read on a smart phone. I had to manually reset the two nodes I installed in order to get them connected, whick I found odd. Adding the second node was not intuitive. Finding the proper place to add it in the app required manual searching and guessing. Along the way, I found the place to set the router password. The app said a password had been set, but did not reveal it, something I found annoying. Overall, I rate the nodes 3-4 and the app 0-1. Since the app is required to install/configure the units, novices will get frustrated quickly. I am an experienced user and I feel that experience is necessary to install the unit properly

Purchased Velop a few years back with NO LUCK
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have had horrible internet service in our house for years and have tried many different things to help. While in Best Buy they felt very strong that the Velop (3pack) would help. The set up is VERY complicated. There really is no way to do this unless you call them (which takes a minimum of 2 hours every time I call). It works great for that evening then the next day I am back at horrible speeds and coverage. I am paying for a full Gig through Verizon and often have found myself under 100 and even in the single digits on many occasions. It goes from bad to unusable, when its unusable I know its time to spend the 2 hours to call them to reset my system. Customer service is very nice and helpful but its just a long process. When I get off the phone I think man its fast and this will solve all my issues then a few hours later, its bad again. I am now going to finally try and purchase a crazy over kill router to see if that works (ASUS AX11000). I have since gone back to Best Buy and everyone now says that the Velop isn't that great of a system. THANKS FOR THAT INFO NOW!! Ughhhh. Its been a nightmare for a lot of $$$$$. I have a 3 level house. Originally I set it up with the 1st Velop was in the basement next to our router and the next Velop was just up the stairs to our main floor and the 3rd one on the top floor (4 bedrooms). 2 of the bedrooms did not get any internet with that set up and wasn't great anywhere else. Then I was worried that our basement was causing the issues, So I moved the 1st Velop to the main floor and purchased a CAT 6 that I hardwired up to the main level. The other Velops staying the same. That also did not work. So I am just moving on from this system and trying one of the new routers. Best Buy magnolia wants to sell me the LUXUL router system with the hubs in the ceiling but that is going to cost well over $1000 to almost $2000. I will try the ASUS first and see if that solves the issues. I do have to say, the internet does seem to be better with the Velop than just using the Verizon router which from online reviews is horrible. So I would say I am a step up from horrible using the Velop, that is my pro.

Drops Internet often and awful tech support
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I currently have Netgear Orbi but I recently wired some of my rooms on opposite ends of my house for Ethernet so I wanted to use an Ethernet backhaul (which Orib can't do). I am an IT Consultant so I know what I'm doing but I read the manual anyway and followed it exactly. First I set everything up wirelessly per the instructions (for 5 child nodes and one parent node, this took about 90 minutes because each node takes forever and you have to do them individually). That seemed to work until I noticed my devices dropping their connections for about 10 minutes then coming back on their own. So the next morning I was going to plug in the Ethernet cables (power off the node before plugging it in). This brought down thee entire network. I called tech support and wasted an hour talking to Tier 1 with no success...then Tier 2 for 4.5 hours with no success!!! Tech support is not US based as a side note. Next they told me an engineer would call me in a couple days. I missed their call and had to call them back. I waited 45 minutes on hold and had to hang up. The next day I waited 2.5 hours on hold then got disconnected for no reason. I gave up and I just ordered Eero. Avoid this at all costs unless you have unlimited time to waste.

Parental control is not functional at all
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this Velop product for the feature that was advertised and recommended as device-level parental controls that it offers. Heavy marketing is on how good the App is for all the user features. When I setup the parental controls on the Linksys App and blocking certain websites (say YouTube) on a few devices, it never worked. I pinched myself and blamed myself for not being able to do such basic stuff. Little did I know App is just for namesake. When I contacted support about it, I was told that the correct way to do it is using the browser and not the App. The technician walked me through setting up the website's domain blocks (say youtube). This blocked off all of Google's platforms - so for one full day my son could not attend his school which was all offered via Google Classroom, Google Docs, Google Drive etc. When I came to know of this end of the day, I had to resort to removing the blocks on youtube, which allowed him to connect with everything else. When I asked the technical support, I was told the parental controls comes with a catch. The catch is if someone uses an app to access another domain, Linksys parental control will not work. Hearing this, I questioned my understanding of how the internet protocols work...did all my 20 years of knowing how the internet works a big misunderstanding? No, irrespective of what App I use, that app still should not be able to allow content from another website. So YouTube block on the router should not allow YouTube apps in accessing the content. Why would I need such an expensive product if whatever they advertised does not work at s fundamental level?
