Many also praise the system's range and performance, reporting consistently reliable connectivity. However, some users experienced connection issues and noted the relatively high price. A limited number of Ethernet ports was also a recurring point of feedback.

Nice looking and reletively easy to complete basic set up. Once installed, I found that I then needed a good understanding of computers to get it working correctly. The issue with streaming lag, need to prioritize my laptop to get any speed etc. Honestly not much better than the AT&T router I already have. I am going to return this product.

wanted to buy a netgear high end router, got talked into the velop by a salesman. Should have listened to myself as i didnt think it would work for what i explained to the salesman. Turned out i was right, for 500 bucks i would currently rather drive over this unit than spend another day troubleshooting and calling tech support. very unhappy

      Hi, SHOPPER,

This is certainly not how the Velop system should behave. If there’s a stable connection directly from the modem, check if there’s any firmware update available and run the channel finder. Ensure also proper placement of the nodes. If that won’t help, get in touch with us at LinksysCares@linksys.com so our Escalation Engineers can lend you a hand. Don’t forget to include your contact information and a link to this post as our reference.

Since I had a two story home with lots of walls. The signal was week when I placed the second pod upstairs. Seems like the unit like a direct signal from the main unit.

      Hi, Mrpcrider,

The Velop System's modular design should perform well not just in a single-story home but in every home type, situation, and footprint as it offers up to 2,000 square feet of coverage. Please reach out to us at LinksysCares@linksys.com so we can have one of our Escalation Engineers check if your Velop is working to its full potential. When my Wi-Fi router, by Netgear, died after six or seven years, I went to Best Buy and bought another Netgear Wi-Fi router. When the Best Buy geek squad man came to my home to install it, he told me I needed a mesh network. I went and spent more money on a mesh network that has not worked, the nodes are so sensitive that if you move them to dust they go off-line. My cellular connection to Wi-Fi sucks big-time. I’m having to spend more money to have a Wi-Fi specialist come and help me figure out a new system. This is the ONLY time I’ve been unhappy with GeekSquad and Best Buy. And they BETTER give me my money back when I return this in a day or two.

Bought it for home use (6 people) in Sept 2017, Had on constantly, Stopped working in Dec '17, called help line they walked me through re-setting the computer, then the nodes, then reinstalling (3 hr ordeal). End of Jan '18 stopped working again, but after shuting it off for 15 min. then restarting, WiFi worked. Now near end of March '18 it stopped again, tried shut down/restart but no luck, will need to call and do reset again. Will be returning it, their platform I think is not stable.

      Hi,

The Linksys Velop Mesh WiFi System should have provided a stable connection. You can try to use the channel finder and update the firmware of the nodes to see if that will optimize the network.

This router is a nice break from the design of consumer routers. It doesn’t look out of place setting on a shelf, and isn’t really even noticeable as a router. Setup was very simple. I feel that anybody without experience could easily set this up. The performance has been great. With these three units, you can cover 6000 square feet and seamlessly move between the different access points, without being aware that anything is happening. This is the key, you just use your network and it will determine which device you should connect to. The addition of ethernet ports on each unit is very nice to have, if you need to plug something in. I do wish it had a usb port, so that you could connect network storage. This is an excellent performing, great looking device that is easy for anybody to set up and use.

Hit a home run with my first Mesh WiFi system

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I have AT&T WiFi (25 Mbps) installed in my 4,000 sq. ft. brick 3 story home. I have adequate WiFi coverage in my house except for the following problem areas; 1) WiFi speeds would go from good to fair to poor for some of my connected Fire TV’s, causing excessive buffering or lost WiFi signals, 2. WiFi coverage in my basement was week , 3). I had poor WiFi coverage for 2 Ring exterior cameras located on my back porch and my garage in the front of the house. The cameras had trouble not only getting, but maintaining a good WiFi signal. 4) With over 28 devices on the network, I had trouble getting many of my devices to auto select the 5 ghz channel I had tried an extender but did not have good luck maintaining a strong signal for the exterior cameras and it was a pain having multiple SSIDs as well as having the extender go off-line for no reason. I decided on the Linksys AC 6600 Tri-band based on the advice of the Best Buy sales person. The list price was expensive at $479, but Best Buy had this unit on sale for $299 and I could’t pass it up. I am happy to say the installation process was easy to do using the Velop iPhone app. I did call customer service to ask some questions and was very happy with their responsiveness and knowing that I had a full 3 years of tech support included. Linksys is really trying to support their Velop customers with a dedicated support team focused on this product. The reps were knowledgeable and very helpful. I installed one node in my basement, 1 node on the first floor and 1 node on the second floor. I have my basement Fire TV and my LG 65 inch LED connected to the 2 ethernet ports on the basement node. I have my iMac connected via an ethernet port on the 1st floor node. All other 28 devices devices connect via WiFi. Results: Pros 1. Velop works 24/7 with no dropped nodes, runs cool and is quite 2. Velop speed test shows I am getting a full 25 mbps. When on the AT&T WiFi, speed test would range between 12 and 20 mbps. Velop is fast! 3. My backyard Ring Camera and front Garage Ring Camera now stay online and are getting strong WiFi signals with RSSI in the 53-56 range. (It used to be RSSI in the 69-72 range which is marginal) 4. The Velop system looks great, the tower is just the right size and the black color blends in nicely 5. I have unplugged a node to move it and it automatically reconnected with no problem 6. Devices are running at the optimum speed (either 5G or 2.4G) and automatically pick the right one 7. It comes with a 3-year warranty which is better than any other hardware I have purchased 8. Dedicated Velop customer service is responsive and knowledgeable 9. It should be able to easily handle my growing number of devices 10. It is running in parallel with my old AT&T WiFi network with no problems. I figured why not keep the AT&T WiFi running in case something happens to the Velop WiFi. Also it was less hassle to try to turn it off. 11. Easy to set up a guest network with it’s own password 12. The Velop application, on the iPhone, has tools to optimize using the highest performing channels Cons 1. It is expensive but can be purchased when on sale. 2. Would be nice to have 3 ethernet ports vs. 2 3. Occasionally, if I get a power outage, a few of my devices will flip back to my AT&T network. These typically are my Fire TV or Echo Dot’s. This happens because I have both passwords for each network stored on Amazon. This does not happen for any of my devices that do not have the AT&T password stored (like the Nest thermostat or Ring security, cameras or doorbells, LG TVs). All in all I am very satisfied with my Velop AC6600 Mesh WiFi system and would buy it again.
