Customers enjoy the Velop AC1300 Dual-Band Mesh Wi-Fi 5 System's ease of use, expanded Wi-Fi coverage, and strong signal. Many appreciate the improved range and performance compared to single routers, finding setup straightforward. A common concern, however, is the relatively high cost.

Reception not great. Have to keep resetting router. House is a ranch and only 1200sq ft. 2 receptors should be able to provide excellent coverage. Very disappointed. Will be purchasing a different router.

Excellent Mesh System with Excellent Mobile App

The Linksys Velop system has performed perfectly as a replacement for other mesh systems I've tried in the past. Unlike other systems, Linksys still allows for advanced settings, such as IP address range for the internal network, and the ability to set advanced functions, such as port forwarding. Some of it's competitors were more basic, but by no means is the Linksys set up wizard, or the mobile app complicated. The setup process was so simple that end-to-end it took about 8 minutes. That includes unboxing, plugging in the main node, powering them all on, and setting up the network nodes with settings. Its extremely intuitive and easy in the app. Linksys has hit a home run here. Coverage wise the devices work well. Performance isn't peak, as these aren't the "tri-band" devices, so they'll use bandwidth within the standard 2.4 nd 5GHz ranges to control and connect the mesh. This will have a slight (not significant for most uses) performance impact compared to a Trim-Band mesh, where a third "backhaul" band exists just to facilitate the inter-node communications. In the end, performance was excellent even at the furthest reaches of my 2500-sqft home, but the Tri-Band version might be a differentiator for higher speed use cases (I have 200x10 basic service with Spectrum) or larger homes nearing the stated "4500 sqft" mark.

The Linksys WHW0103 Velop system should provide a stable connection. But, we could try to use the channel finder on the Linksys app and update the firmware to optimize your Velop network. Allow us to investigate this further. You can share more details at LinksysCares@linksys.com with the link to this review for our reference.

This is a re-design of the original Velop mesh system that debuted at least a year ago or more. The re-design has some notable features about it that I really like. First of all the towers are not quite as tall, which is nice. And the biggest plus is that they moved the ethernet jacks and input for power to the back vs. the bottom of the unit. This just makes it easier to work with. I don't care that you can see the jacks, most will not either. This is dual band and advertised for basic internet. I have 100 mbps up and down via FIOS, so I'd say I'm beyond basic internet, but this suits our household just fine. Four adults in the household, 40 devices connected to the network, one serious gamer, and everyone has a phone and computer of their own. Nobody ever complains about internet speed being an issue with this mesh network in place. What is important in my situation is that the base unit has ethernet jacks on the back that can be used to plug in wired devices to the nodes, so you can extend your network to devices without WIFI. Once such case for me and this is very important is my Arlo CCTV system receiver needs to be plugged into a hardwired jack. I have my Arlo receiver in a room nearer to the furthest camera, because without this, that camera doesn't get back to the base properly. If I didn't have the wired jack to plug into, I'd be missing that camera. For the average consumer, this is a decent choice. Remember too, you don't want to over specify your WIFI distance because the stronger the signal the more chance others outside of your household may try to hack your network. I like to get coverage to area near the front and rear of my house in case I'm outside, but not far enough someone can sit in their car and try to get into my network. The app is easy to use and the setup of this takes just minutes. You'll quickly realize this system is user friendly for the average consumer. Advanced users may feel like this is too basic for them, but truth be told it is everything most people will need and more. Linksys makes awesome stuff, they always have. I've never had a disappointment with anything they make, and this is no exception. Linksys is advertised on Apple's site as a router system which means if they've been selling it, it has to be really good.

    Velop….my go to Wifi!

I was elated to get another opportunity to review what I consider my primary Wifi connection in my home….Velop! Initially, I was introduced to Velop in December of 2016 and it has not let me down in any form or fashion. Therefore, to add this dual-band in with my tri-band was a no brainer for me. My targeted area was my bedroom to add an extra node because in the past and until recently, I would still experience some lag and buffering due in part to “shotty” internet services. I have since switched internet providers and the performance is much better. At this time, since I have robust coverage in my home from Velop, I only added one node. I already had the app on my phone; therefore, all I had to do was add the 1 node and it was discovered after a few attempts which didn’t take long. Seemingly, the dual band meshes well with the tri-band as I haven’t experienced any problems thus far. I know the dual band system establishes itself as an independent network; yet, it doesn’t interfere with my devices such as printers, scanners, smart door lock, etc, because I have so many devices in operation, I use several routers which prevent interference and maintain order for me. I did a few speed tests and my speeds didn’t change by much, but they are consistent which in the past, they would be up and down. So far, so good and because of the confidence I have in Velop and its ability to perform reliable internet services, I know it will provide great performance going forward!

The three-unit Linksys Velop AC3900 Whole Home Wi-Fi system is designed for three- or four-bedroom homes up to 4500 square feet. Smaller homes may be able to get by with the two-unit system. It comes with a three-year warranty and 24/7 customer care. There's a downloadable app for your Android or iPhone that makes installation a snap. Simply follow the directions on the phone app and you're in business. The only problem I experienced was with the installation of the farthest-reaching third node which wasn't recognized the first couple of times I tried. However, it finally installed on the third attempt. Perhaps I wouldn't have had that problem had I installed it closer to the other units. During installation, you get the option to name each node in case you have to do any troubleshooting. I chose the name of the room each node was installed in for ease of identification. After installation, I went online to download the latest version of the firmware which self-installs on each node once downloaded. Once that's done, you're in business. I chose to use the app option to set up guest access with it's own name and password. Allowing guest access doesn't expose the rest of your network, including other computers, external storage or connected devices, to your guest users. You can change the name and/or password when no longer needed by that particular guest. The app also allows you to control the number of guest-connected devices. Finally, the app offers parental controls, and it's Alexa compatible. Speed tests on my system prior to installation of the Linksys Velop system clocked in at 24.1 Mbps download and 4.1 Mbps upload. After installing the three-unit Velop Wi-Fi system, I was pleased to see that the speed had actually increased to between 34.6 and 35.7 Mbps download and between 4.4 and 4.9 Mbps upload. It's nice to not have to be in a specific part of your home to get good Wi-Fi coverage. This unit provides whole-house coverage like it says it will. It's definitely a keeper. .
