Though not an IT pro, I know several and so asked them for recommendations. They said this was "the DC3 of wireless routers" and still more than up to my limited needs: mostly email and web browsing (no gaming, streaming video, etc.). It's apparently been around for years and has a great rep --- was once the benchmark, I gather. Has therefore both the pros and cons of older tried&true products: Nothing new and fancy, but all the bugs are long since gone, it's simple to set up b/c it is pretty basic, tech support types tend to know it and know what to do when you call with questions, etc. On the other hand, it's not as fast and so forth as the newer stuff, will get only more obsolete sooner than the newer models, and so forth. In short, it works fine for me for now, just as my friends told me. And it should be OK for a good while longer, I figure.

I bought a tablet but am too far away from any WiFi hotspot to download any purchased apps or updates. This wireless router solved the problem. It was very easy to install, hook up to our cable modem and it works very well (I can log in on my tablet anywhere in my house)

While the range and operation of this router is fine, connecting it to the laptop was a chore. Unless you're tech savvy it takes a certain amount of intuition to complete the connection.

If you're a single person this is a great device, but if you have a large volume of data consumers I'd go with a dual band router.

Compared to others it doesn't have many bells and whistles, but a good router should be SET AND FORGET. It's easy to configure if you follow the instructions. Great stablity, security, build quality, and can be MODIFIED. It doesn't have N frequency or a cup holder, but you can see N-comparable range with an aftermarket antenna and more with custom firmware (linux-derived). I've used high-gain omni antenna and directionals and it loves them. The problems generally come from the computers, the cable company, patch cables, RF interference, etc - not the router. It just happens to be the convenient fall-guy. You can save & restore your custom settings to do a quick foactory-reset. 3 relatives all have WRT54G's (15+ yrs combined), and I have a new GL now. As mentioned, all problems have been from outside sources. To sum it up: this is a great router for the normal to advanced user.

I purchased this router in 2008. It has been running daily with no issues since the 1st day I brought it online. No dropped signal, no connection issues, and no worries! It's been forever ago since I set it up but I do remember it came with a CD which I still have) and the CD had step by step instuctions on it. I would definitly reccommend this router! Do your research! This router has been around for so long not because they are cheaply made, they have been around for so long because users who have these swear by them. 2 out of 5 stars is not a true statement of this router. If you want a good reliable router with no hassles this is it. Like I said before do your research and you'll see that this wireless router is #1

I bought this router at the same time I purchased my first laptop around six years ago. I didn't know anything about routers and this happened to be the one the sales associate picked out for me (it was only $50 back then though). I've had this router through two moves and two laptops and it has never had any issues. Very easy set-up. I'm now looking to upgrade to an N router because my household has outgrown this one. It was pretty fast when I only had a laptop connected to it, but now I also have a tablet, a Wii and a Roku and it's slowed down considerably. I can only use one of those things at a time or else it takes FOREVER for things to load. But if you have only a few things to hook up, this is great. But I wouldn't pay $70 for it. The range is also very good. I live in a three story house and there's nowhere this doesn't work.

    BEST ON THE MARKET

I've been using my Linksys router for a number of years. I actually run 4 businesses, 2 of which have security webcams that I monitor remotely from home. I can actually access the computer systems via the router as well. To customize the router for my needs is very simple, and very reliable. I know of no issues whatsoever. Whenever there is a loss of internet, or it becomes erratic, it is ALWAYS an issue caused by my internet service provider (ISP), namely COX cable. I think people have a misconception about a router. It DOES NOT PROVIDE INTERNET SERVICE!!! It distributes an existing internet connection or "ROUTES" it to other PCs, both wired and wirelessly. So, when your internet service is acting flakey, don't blame it on the router. And don't let cable techs convince you otherwise. When there seems to be poor internet quality, unplug the router and plug your ethernet cable directly into your PC. You'll then know which is causing the problem. I am off to purchase another one today.

I've had my WRT54GS for at least ten years. Never had a problem. My Laptop, internet TV (watch movies in HDX) and blu ray all get a strong no drops connection. The G router of course is a little outdated so the price looks kinda high all things considered. But if you just want a reliable router the WRTG will do the trick.

I've been using this router in my home for years and it is still running as good as it was on day 1. It's not an N router, but that shouldn't make a big difference to most people. It is DD-WRT compatible. Great as a primary router or a secondary access point. I have mine in my basement and can get a good signal in my bedroom.

This router works all the time. No resetting, no problems. I replaced a Wireless-N router that was supposed to be the top of the line model, but I am MUCH happier with this Wireless-G because of its reliability.

I have used the original version of this product since 2006. It worked faithfully that whole time. I especially liked having a choice of wireless security and chose to use the MAC address filter, because occasionally I have small group meetings at my office. I put my colleagues' MAC addresses on the router and did not have to give out a WAP password when they came (which would have compromised my security, I felt). The router was fast and something I never had to think about. Then I got the bright idea to put it on top of my refrigerator for wider broadcast of the wireless signal. Of course, it sometimes fell off. Eventually it started to perform less than optimally: I often have to do a DHCP release and DHCP renew to get Internet access. So, I'm going to buy the 2014 version of the product. I hope it's as good as the old one. I do know that it's more expensive by about $12.
