Top of the line!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First let me say I received this router through the friends of Linksys program as a free sample in exchange for my honest feedback. I was not paid for this review. This replaces my Linksys WRT1900AC that I've been running in my home for over a year (a great router in itself) that I purchased as a refurbished item. This review is, in part, comparing performance between the two. Before I get into too much detail let me throw out there that set-up is extremely easy. For most users you'll plug & play and never think twice. I do go in and set-up a few other things for ease of use, increase gaming performance through port forwarding, and few other tweaks. All of which are easy to do from the computer. The Linksys Android app is also quite handy to do some basic monitoring and changing some settings as well. I have to say that being able to do maintenance right from my mobile device has a huge advantages over other routers on the market. Now to the fun stuff... I have been using the WRT3200ACM for a few days now and have put it through various test at peak and off peak times. I was a bit skeptical that the performance differences would be really noticeable between these two, and for the most they do have similar performance. However, I have been getting more consistent performance on all connected devices. I'm a fairly heavy user, as is our family. At any given time we have several devices connected wirelessly to our Internet. This includes, but not limited to, at least two phones, a tablet or 4, Playstation 4, Wii U, laptops, Amazon Echo, Google Chromcast, and however many family and friends we have over on any given day. Gaming on the PS4, as well as using Netflix through the PS4, has been smooth and only minimal lag at peak hours. Part of this problem lies, however, in my relatively slow DSL speed (a problem that is being remedied). Given our low Mbs, I'd say the performance in gaming and video streaming has been a 9.5 of 10. Very robust overall. Video streaming on multiple devices at once (our kids tablets/phones watching Youtube, Netflix on a smart TV, etc) has been fairly smooth as well. There has been some dropping in video quality at times; however, I can't emphasize enough how much this is more due to my relatively slow DSL speed, in particular at high peak hours when congestion reigns supreme. Basic web browsing on any device has been buttery smooth. No issues whatsoever. Music steaming through the Amazon Echo, and overall performance on the Echo, has been flawless. I've noticed, actually, that there has been less lag during peak hours this week. Which is a plus. Speed tests: well, I've done various speed tests at peak and off peak times, as well as during heavier usage times amongst my family, and this is where this router has really excelled. I've been able to consistently get nearly the max download and upload speeds with minimal ping approximately 90% of the time I've checked (in relation to the speed my pay for through my ISP). That is pretty impressive considering I'd often get a large slow down in the evenings with previous routers at peak times. I do believe this is largely due to the MU-MIMO technology. Pretty amazing. I'm looking forward to pressing this harder when I get my speed increase from my new ISP. The other area this router is excelling is in 5Ghz range. At the furthest corner of my 2nd floor where I'm furthest from the router I've maintained a fairly strong signal. My WRT1900AC was not as strong and my phone especially would switch back to 2.4Ghz. This hurts speed big time since these channels are highly congested in my neighborhood. Being able to remain on 5Ghz is huge advantage in my area as there are few others using these channels. In fact, I can choose several channels and have that bandwidth all to my self! Overall, a nice upgrade from my current router; which is a beast in its own right. With my new ISP coming this weekend, is should see even greater performance. I would definitely recommend this router for those searching in this price range. If this is beyond your price range, I'd say any similar Linksys router will give the performance most people would expect.

Nothing but Trouble
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this router with high hopes for using with VPN. Within a month I had issues with losing all wifi. I called linksys and they had me change the wifi channels. After that my 5Ghz network kept dropping out. I called again. They sent out a replacement. Within a week, I am having the same exact issues. If you google this router it is VERY PROBLEMATIC. Do NOT BUY IT. They will not give me my $$$$ back. My next step is going to the Bettter Business Bureau and my credit card for their extended Warranty Protection. I had an ASUS router for 10 years with absolutely no issues.

Didn't work for me, can't recommend it
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I possibly could have gotten a bad unit, but I simply could not make it work with the SSID hidden and I could not get VPN passthrough to work. Even the Linksys techs were of no help. I am sorry to say that Linksys is apparently not the brand to buy and they used to be the best for home use. I am still looking for a wireless router but I think I am going to go the route of enterprise instead of home use. I need something that just plain works, not something that is made just to look good sitting on the shelf. I am not trying to tell you not to buy this unit, but I had high hopes and I was let down severely.

Great Choice for most homes
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, this was probably the simplest experience I have had setting up a router. I used the wizard (which I normally despise and opt for manual setup) which allowed setup in under 2 minutes. The WRT 3200 has fantastic signal strength, every room in my home had an additional bar compared to my previous setup. The only gripe I have is when running the router in bridge mode (NAT disabled) I noticed a reduction in WAN to LAN throughput which is odd. This may be addressed in a future firmware update, but be aware if you intend to use this as an AP you may see a reduction in internet throughput (WAN egress/ingress). I still highly recommend as most homes have a single device and would not run it in this configuration. I would of also liked to see more in the parental controls on this device. It allows to specify access times, which is nice, however content filtering was limited to manually specifying what websites to block. It would be nice if there was an option to specify categories to block rather than having to manually enter all websites you don't want a child to visit. Overall, it is a great router that would be a great choice for most homes.

Not a big fan.
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We have used many Linksys products through the years. We purchased 2 of this router. Even through wired connection the speed drops to less than half of what the input speed is.

Posted .Hi David085,
The router should be able to provide the same speed from your internet source. Make sure that you are getting your expected speed of your modem, then reset and configure the router again to try and improve the performance of the router.
If this behavior persists, we can have our Second Level Technicians contact you for further troubleshooting.

Good Router Overall, VPN Abilities Limited
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall, I am satisfied with the Linksys WRT AC3200 MU-MIMO Wi-Fi router. Basic setup was easy. Plugged it into my modem, fired it up and quickly setup the various wireless channels (2.4 Ghz, 5 Ghz and Guest). I quickly noticed that the speeds of the wireless was much improved from my previous router. I get about 25% faster throughput speeds to my wireless devices. The Linksys Smart Wi-Fi app is good to quickly keep tabs on your network connections and for quickly forwarding ports. For more advanced users, logging into the router from a browser is the way to go. The major downside I have found with this router is that it only has OpenVPN support. Unfortunately this protocol has been removed by Apple in the latest version of MacOS and iOS so you must use a third party VPN client if you wish to VPN to the router. I hope to see the addition of more secure/Mac friendly protocols soon with the router. Overall, this is a very speedy router with great wifi speeds and distance. Easy to install and setup. If VPM is a requirement and OpenVPN won't work for you, then this router is probably not for you.

Dead after 1 Day
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this based on the strong reviews, but regretted it less than 24 hours later. Everything was working great until the following morning the 2.4 Ghz band stopped broadcasting. I thought a setting must of been shut off by accident but that wasn't the case. I went as far as restoring the previous firmware and restoring it as new to configure it again. Nope nothing changed I contacted Linksys who stated it was a hardware failure and they could replace it for me. If a router can't last more than a day than I doubt the longevity will be there even with a replacement unit.

Classic Linksys Design with Incredible Performance
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have used Linksys routers and additional WIFI adapters, range extenders for years and I honestly wouldn't go with any other brand of router. The Linksys WRT 3200ACM is awesome, both from it's classic Linksys rugged design as well as it's incredible performance. The performance of the Linksys 3200ACM was more than enough to support the multiple computers in the home as well as two 4K TV's. The WRT 3200ACM has also been designed with the latest standards in mind. USB 3.0 and eSATA ports allow you to connect and share storage across your network. For advanced users, the router also supports configuring it using OpenWRT or DD-WRT open source solutions. Installing the router was easy and as a suggestion for anyone replacing an older router, just use the same network name and password and you won't even need to reconfigure all the devices connected to your network. I've personally done this as I've upgraded my Linksys routers over the years and it definitely makes the upgrade process smoother.

Tri Band Router With Multiple Possibilities
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the average casual WIFI user all you need to know is this is a really fast strong router that will provide the same strength strong signal to multiple devices at the same time and its not that difficult to set up. I wont go into listing all of its features, speeds, etc. that you can read in the product description, but I will mention a few key features: Performance is optimized by what is called BeamForming Technology. You can monitor and control your network from you cell or any remote computer. No hack needed to use open source configurations for advanced users. It has a 1.8 GHZ DUAL-CORE CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT (CPU) All other features as well as the ones I listed are in the product description. It all boils down to: "This is a great router for multiple simultaneous users with enough capability for gaming, watching online movies and cruising the internet if you have an adequate high speed internet service" (I would recommend 100mbps or better for you internet service)

Drops and More Drops
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have always loved Linksys, I still have a WRT54G running just fine. I decided to get this, as I have looked at it many times. I had nothing but problems after hooking it up. My 5Ghz band would drop all the time, and I had to restart the router. When this wasn't happening my 2.4Ghz band would drop to a max speed of 1.2mbps, I have 150mbps down and up. This was just unacceptable, I returned the router after may software updates and calls to Linksys. Ended up with a ASUS RT-ac3100, best decision I have made.

Problems,Problems,Problems
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Replaced my 4 yr old Linksys with this advanced model. Nothing but problems from the start. My old Linksys worked fine and downloaded at the 30 Mbps I'm currently paying for. This new router struggles to do 10 Mbps. Customer support was friendly but we tried for 45 min. to solve the problem but to no avail. They then suggested I pay a fee of $20 to try and fix it by allowing them access to my iMac.I'm returning this over priced lemon and having my cable provider install their equipment.

Great Wireless Router!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Before this router I was using the Netgear Nighhawk. This router seems to be around the same speeds and similar all around. It is rated slightly faster then the nighthawk but in my speedtest performs very similarly. The router was easy to set up right out of the box. Two features that I love about this router are the ability to turn off the lights on the front except for the power light. This is extremely nice for people who have the router in their bedroom and don't like light. The next feature is the cell phone application that allows you to control the wifi router from your phone. It is very simple and easy to use interface. The router is a little on the expensive side but is definitely one of the best ones. If you are a hardcore gamer, need a strong connection for streaming movies, or any other reason this is a must have router.

Unreliable, limited management
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had to retire this thing to factory more times than I was able to use the wifi on it. No firmware updates from Linksys and trying to flash DD-WRT on it failed with file name errors and unrecognized file errors. Also, the mgmt interface is so watered down and featureless it leaves me wondering why Linksys would ever sale out and ruin what use to be a well built & reliable line of products. Now that Belkin owns Linksys instead of Cisco everything has gone to poo.

Good for beginner or advanced user
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I would classify myself as an intermediate user when setting up computer equipment. I read about it and make an effort to learn and use what I have, but I am by no means an expert and it is not part of my job. That said, the setup was very simple, 10-15 minutes for a beginner to get it running. If that's all you want to do, enjoy the high speeds. I have 100 MB service from Comcast/Xfinity, I have been averaging about 115 MB when I check with Speedtest app. My home has over 2,000 sq ft over 3 levels. The router is on middle level and reaches the entire home. It's winter so I haven't tried outside yet, but based on interior full coverage, should be fine outside the home. I have about 8-10 devices using the router, often streaming on 3 devices at the same time. For advanced users, I enjoy that I can name my devices and follow what is being used. I also like that I can prioritize 3 devices, so when my internet feed is slowed by Comcast or neighbors during busy times, the devices I prioritize get first access. These were also easy to setup. I haven't gone into more items yet, but the interface is very logical and when I have time I am sure it will be easy to use. I bought this to replace an Apple Airport Extreme which was reliable and simple to use. The Linksys did not seem much more difficult to setup. I did have to turn it off and on one or two times the first weekend, as a couple reviews have mentioned. I'm not sure it was the router or internet provider, but that was 2 weeks ago and it's been fine since. One thing that surprised me is the router does not separate the 2.5 & 5 GH ranges. I used to separate my devices on the bands to spread the access. This router has one access and automatically assigns the best frequency. When I originally started to connect devices I thought I was missing something, but the all work fine. I was originally going to buy an AC-1900 router, which may have been fine. I got this one on sale for about the same price and am definitely glad to be future proofed. Even at full price, the cost would likely be worthwhile considering it will likely be used daily for 3-5 years.

||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Thought it was going to be an easy considering I am from IT back ground. The setup part was OK. Setup WIFI network, Smart-wifi account etc. However, the system won't let me in using my Router password. Tried resetting the router multiple times but no luck. Called support 1 hour wait time. No response on the online chat either. This was my first Linksys. I have always had NETGEAR and never had any issues. I guess I will be going back to NETGEAR.

Lightning fast router, easy setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We upgraded our at least 10 year old Linksys wi-fi Router with this new one and what a difference. You don't realize how limiting older tech can be until you get a piece of state-of-the-art high performance equipment. The only issue we had with installing the router was, as expected a Cox cable problem, but once that was over with setup was a snap. I routinely send and receive large files, have seen a tremendous improvement in speed. Only limit at this point is the Cox modem and my older computer. Streaming Netflix is instantaneous. Much faster downloads and connections on our mobile devices as well. This was well worth the money, we also saved a bit as it was on sale at Best Buy, which we didn't know and would have bought it anyway.
