Great hardware, but needs work
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. We recently received a Linksys WRT3200ACM in exchange for a fair and honest review of their new WRT-series flagship. This router is the latest in the WRT line from Linksys. The addition of TriBand technology provides theoretical wireless throughput speeds among the fastest currently available. All the ethernet ports are gigabit, and there’s a choice of USB 3.0 and eSATA connections. The router requires minimal assembly coming out of the packaging; the four antennas need to be screwed-in by hand. Once the router is plugged in and attached to a PC, the process will look familiar to Cisco-Linksys product users (the ol’ 192.168.1.1). The stock firmware setup is painless and seamless. Linksys has made the initialization and setup process quite simple, without any unpleasant surprises (...they would arrive later). The router’s stock firmware has plenty of features; there are several configuration options besides DHCP. It is capable of wireless bridging out-of-the-box, though I doubt anyone would purchase a WRT3200 only for bridging. This is a WRT series router, which is a bit of a tip-of-the-hat to the venerable Linksys WRT54G- the router on which a famous branch of open-source firmware got its start. The WRT3200 can work with open-source firmwares that can add specialized features that most of may not need, or even value. However, such alternative firmwares usually provide great customization opportunities- VPN scripting, VLANs, and so forth. Although one of the primary aims of stock firmware is stability, the main goal of open-source firmware is to unlock improvements that weren’t necessarily included -or fully supported- by the manufacturer. Consequently, such firmware can be difficult to support. As the WRT3200 is compatible out-of-the-box with both DD WRT and OpenWRT (popular open source firmwares), one is only a few clicks away from downloading and installing one of these firmwares. Friendly word of caution here: be careful! This sort of thing is simple but highly procedural. One or two mistakes and you may have a very expensive brand new paperweight. That warning aside, and as told by Linksys, I had no problem finding and installing DD WRT. [24 Hour Home-Use Test] The Linksys WRT3200ACM performed quite well at first. After initial setup, I used an EA6500 to wirelessly bridge to the new router; the EA6500 then streamed 1080p/720p live TV to an Amazon Fire Stick. This picture quality was great and response of the Fire Stick through an Android app was peppy. Using Speedtest.net on a smartphone, I received the maximum throttled download speed that our ISP provides. HOWEVER...problems developed that required a hard reboot of the router every 12 hours or so in order to restore wireless service. At irregular intervals, the one of the wifi interfaces (ath0) faded and eventually shut off altogether, reset after several minutes (just the wifi), and returned to working normally. The 2.4 GHz-only interface (ath1) refused any connection, regardless of security settings. Additionally, the WAN connection would suddenly slow to a crawl and disconnect. I experimented with settings adjustments, including removing encryption altogether- these tweaks provided no improvement. I can say that the wifi speeds of ‘fresh’ connections (when the router is first initialized), are fantastic! But the random drops of wireless left me with the impression that we are still early in the life cycle of this router- plently of bugs, big and small, to address. Some further research revealed a good bit of discussion about wireless connections dropping on the WRT3200, as well as intermittently failing WAN connections. It doesn’t seem to be an open-source vs. stock firmware conversation, but likely third-party driver availability. If that’s the case, let’s hope Linksys and their hardware providers can get this straightened out soon, because the hardware-capability side of the WRT3200 is quite strong and provides some future-proofing (please see ‘TriBand’ technology for more). I can’t help but think the WRT3200 will turn out to be worthy of its flagship placement in the WRT-series in time. Just not right now.

Buy this one
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Linksys is back! This thing has been rock solid. Handles everything we throw at it.. Had HD streams going on 4 separate TVs, while my 2 kids were on tablets streaming, wife was on the laptop surfing the internet, and I was playing games on my phone. Didn't even phase this router. This is our 4th router in 5 years and the only one that's been able to handle my family. Con: Turn off guest access. This router uses what's called a captive portal for guest access. By itself this isn't necessarily bad but there's no encryption option. Turn guest access off and have peace of mind.

Great upgrade from my old router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had an older linksys router for the past 9 years and thought out was time for an upgrade. The router started failing and I wanted another linksys router since the last one was so good. I initially was going to get the linksys wrt1900acs but saw this one on sale for $158 on bestbuy.com and couldn't resist. It has been doing way better than my old router and the speed is way better. I have 9 devices connected and don't have a problem with speeds or buffering. I use it to stream tv shows and movies as well playing my xbox one online without a problem.

Best Router I ever had!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought 4-2-18, forget all the negative reviews. This is hands down the best router I have ever owned. It replaced a Dark Knight 1750, it was fast. This router is Mutant fast. I had zero issues in setup or updating firmware, it does it all its self! I bought a Night Hawk 1900 and I could not set it up. Best Buy took it back and I bought this one, I am so happy. NO lag issues what so ever. Any doubts, go to You Tube, and see the reviews. I am not a mindless Cheerleader, this is really the best out there for the money. I paid 190 for it.

Great Router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was not really looking to replace my current router but after experiencing a connectivity issue between that router and my wife's new robot vacuum cleaner, I went shopping. I had looked online and decided to check out the dual band units. Upon perusing the available stock at my local BB store, I settled on the WRT3200ac from Linksys. Fortuitously, I looked it up on the BB website and there was a $20.00 online discount available which the clerk had no problem honoring. Setup was easy and everything is great now. Wireless vacuuming, who knew?

Excellent router, really increased speed
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent router. Bought this in conjunction with the arris sb 6190 and boosted my time warner cable speed from 80 to 119!!! 2ghz is a bit lacking in range and speed but 5ghz is where its at anyways! Had an issue connecting to the linksys router page through my computer. I called linksys and an individual tried helping me and eventually told me my network driver was corrupt and tried to charge me $150 to fix it... i need to go onto the admin page in order to enable my tv to have no bandwidth restrictions... its a shame i think i will return it though do to this problem

Working Great
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Got this router out of the box and went ahead and flashed it with DD-WRT firmware. It has been running like a beast. I have at anytime 20 devices connected via WiFi and it has been great. I still have many options that I am going to setup like open vpn. So far no complaints. I have always been a Linksys buyer but have had some units that were not what I expected. This router has been impressive so far. Have only had it for less than a week. Setup was easy. I think Linksys has themselves a winner here.

Buyer beware!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this in March and I too am suddenly having issues with not being able to connect over wifi. Multiple resets and an attempt to re-flash the firmware have left me with a bricked router stuck in an endless boot loop. Do not buy this router!

This router is great!!!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had Netgear,Asus and TPI and this exceeds them by far! First off there is no lag in WiFi. I had the Max Stream 8200 and I loved it. This router has better connections to everything I have on WiFi. Put that with the auto update as soon as you get it online and you have a winning combo. Took all of 5 minutes before I was back online and enjoying my new router. I really like indicator lights on the front panel and the speed of the WiFi signal. I personal have no issues.

Great router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought the night halk first. When home set it all up and it did not have the option to block each individual device so I called tech support after spending some time with them found out it doesn't have that capability at this time. So went back to Bestbuy the next morning and got Linksys - Wireless-ac3200 Dual-band Wi-fi Router - Black/blue and love it easy setup and have not had any problems yet. I should have just got this one in the first place. I have had nothing but bad luck with netgear

Amazing router
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This router is incredible. Super easy set up that took minutes and gave me no issues. The range this router puts out is quite shocking as well, extending well past my apartment and into the parking lot itself. It's also a very beautiful router with the coloring and the lights on the front showing you connectivity are very good, they don't shine annoyingly bright like some do so that's also a major plus. Probably the best router I've ever purchased and I am very happy with it.
