Another decent entry from Linksys

I have to say I was fairly interested in this device when I learned it was coming, because due to happenstance, I actually have multiple PCs in my house that support the Killer network prioritization natively, and being able to support that all the way through the network seems as though it would be of significant benefit.
Cosmetically, the router itself is actually quite striking, I quite like the all-black look with the new chassis design for the WRT series routers from Linksys, it's pretty cool looking.
Initial setup is fairly straightforward, following the basic setup for most Linksys devices now. I still am not a fan of the 'big brother' type of setup they push for and went with the local password rather than the linksys account. Outside of that, the vast majority of the options in the device are what you'd find on most mid-range home routers with the exception of the Killer offering... more on that in a minute.
The router has all the basics you could imagine for a home router, with a network map, DHCP reservations, DDNS, scheduling, 2.4GHz and 5GHz wifi bands, and a VPN endpoint. There's no great need in covering these functions as they dont deviate from the set capabilities for most home routers and don't really offer any standout features.
The one difference from this is the Killer prioritization engine. Provided you have machines in your network that also have the Killer engine, they can actually connect to and prioritize the traffic from your machine to the router over other traffic, with a lean towards gaming. This really can be adjusted how you want though, as the Killer application allows you to assign priorities based on the application you are running. So far it has been fun to play with, but really the biggest benefit I've seen is that I'm able to prioritize my gaming traffic from my PC over the inundating network utilization caused by my XBox One performing updates. For whatever reason the XBox will routinely saturate my bandwidth to the Internet making it near impossible to game with any great success until it is done. The Killer engine has successfully allowed me to game without compromise even when the Xbox is performing those updates. This is really the first implementation of QOS of any great success that I've seen on a home router... I have seen others with it, but the implementation of it is... strange... at best, really creating a set bandwidth amount that is always available at the expense of all else, rather than truly prioritizing traffic as it comes through. Again, this really is the most benefit to you if you have machines with the Killer engine already on them, though honestly with just a few more steps you can prioritize other traffic as well, even for machines without Killer on them.
The performance of the router is great, I have no issues with coverage or throughput.
Overall this is a pretty decent device, though I wish Linksys would move away from the big brother accounts that they have been pushing with this and all of the rest of their most recent offerings.

A "Killer" Gaming Router!

This device shouts "Killer" from the minute to you open the box with it's sleek updated design, matte black finish and low profile size. As with any Linksys router, setup is a breeze and my network was up and running within minutes. I'm not a serious gamer, but do own a Killer compatible PC and was curious to see if this router would truly make a difference with gaming.
After working with the dashboard for a little bit, my devices were prioritized and it was time to play! The speed and smoothness of gaming was immediately noticeable. I don't think I'm ready to concur the online gaming world just yet, but this router will certainly help me gain an advantage on the competition!
If you're not a gamer, this is still an amazing router for any home/home office use. It has 1x Gigabit WAN port and 4x Gigabit LAN ports, a USB 3.0 port, and 1x eSATA/USB 2.0 port, providing plenty of support for setting up a SAN or connecting wired devices like phones, etc.
All-in-all I would recommend this router to Gamers for sure and non-gamers who want the ability to prioritize devices through a great dashboard. Coverage is great, and is a breeze to setup and maintain.

Having tried Linksys' AC3200 last year, I was excited to get my hands on this updated model to see what had changed and if it was indeed faster with games.
Setup was super simple, but omitted Linksys' app, which i had enjoyed using before. The webpage based setup on the router walked me through all the steps and was flawless in execution. It worked well both from a laptop and my phone, when my phone went dead in the middle of setup.
Connectivity is a given, I was a little surprised it only has 4 ethernet ports. Integrated gigabit ethernet, built in USB 3.0, and a Combo eSATA/USB port, as well as a WAN port and a well recessed reset button are all present and accounted for.
Advanced setup and features in the firmware: This is probably overkill for most home users, but then again this router is branded with the killer networking name, so it needs to provide some added value for the experience, and deliver on it's gaming promise. I appreciate graphing bandwidth usage by device and trending it over time in the firmware pages themselves. I had the option of manually messing with the QoS (Quality of Service/Media Prioritization) or I could just turn on the Killer presets and see what happens. I chose to do just that and paired it up with my laptop.
Having the Killer Router and the Killer Doubleshot wireless card paired up felt for a moment like I was doing everything right. After gaming for a while and playing a number of different titles, I started to grow a little numb to it. Perhaps I was so used to the performance from my AC3200 that the killer prioritization engine didn't make that big of a difference for me? I didn't notice any significant increase, but I did start monitoring my bandwidth and noticed that lag was indeed down, ping was up and everything was working well. I would liken this to adding a "turbo" button to an already fast PC. It's blazing and then you press the button... are you going to be able to tell the difference all the time?
Overall: I'm enjoying the performance a lot. I don't know that I could justify replacing a fairly new router with this one, but if you're in the market to upgrade and you do any gaming the addition of the Killer Engine might be for you. Adding that to Linksys's solid feature set and an already great router is just icing on the cake. I'll keep using it for my main unit and see if I notice any times or situations where it appears to save my hide (others in the family streaming video and me playing online) as the real test of the engine. It's also got me considering putting Killer enabled chips in other machines as well.

Fast, But Excessive If You Don't Online PC Game

The WRT32X is a heavy-duty router optimized for online PC gaming with its Killer prioritization engine, which will automatically prioritize any WiFi traffic from network adapters with Killer built-in. This speeds traffic with Killer, even over normal network traffic which, in a mixed home where people are gaming & working simultaneously, could create some interesting conflicts. Killer always wins, followed by voice/video services (also used with online gaming), with e-mail & downloads as the lowest priorities overall.
You can tell from the weight of the device that it is much heavier-duty than your normal run-of-the-mill WiFi router, and the design is nothing shy of beautiful, something you don't mind having out in the open.
The 4 antennas mount on left, right, and 2 on the back for maximum coverage, although I found signal quality substantially degraded from 1 end of the house to the other and wasn't much of an improvement over my previous router.
The setup wizard is quick & easy to use (even as an IT pro I used the wizard). Taking the initial firmware upgrade out of the equation, I was up & running in less than 3 minutes. (Firmware upgrades occur at initial set up & then nightly, if needed, unless otherwise specified).
The web interface for setup & management is well-designed, with a dashboard to show inbound & outbound traffic, as well as a built-in speed test button.
The device will attempt to name both your 2.4 and 5.0 GHz networks the same thing, which a lot of people don't want. I specified them to be named differently (for clarity), but the system ended up naming them the same, anyway. Annoying, but easy to fix with the management interface.
As mentioned, it is built to accept Killer traffic. But, if you have non-Killer devices, you can easily set devices to take advantage of the prioritization using the web interface. The challenge is finding the names of those devices you wish to prioritize if they're IoT devices and aren't easily identifiable with a hostname.
The device also includes 2 USB slots on the back to turn the router into a file server, 1 slot that supports an eSATA drive and 1 that supports USB 3.0.
Ultimately, while a great router, if you don't have Killer-enabled PC devices that you use for PC gaming, the device is probably excessive for your needs.

It's a nice gaming router specially if you have a killer network card on your desktop or laptop. One downside for me is the fact that you can't control who is online and not. It doesn't want 1 less star for me though.

This is another good product from Linksys. I think this might be the first router that is directly marketed to gamers, due to the fact that it always prioritizes gaming as first, everything else is after that and downloads are last. It reduces ping dramatically on PC's using the Killer Network. That means you will experience less lag while playing games, which in turn should improve your playing abilities, however you do not need to have a killer enabled PC to justify this router in my opinion.
I personally do not have a PC with Killer chipset enabled on it yet, however using the router for general gaming and in my home that has many connections that seem to grow every day, this router worked flawlessly. Setup was easy out of the box, like most routers are these days. Follow the instructions and a few clicks and your connected. Since using the WRT32X I haven't experienced any drop in speeds or lag since using it and the coverage throughout my townhouse is solid allowing me to get pretty far away from my place before losing signal. The user interface and dashboard is really intuitive and allows you to easily select which devices that you want to prioritize on your network. There you can view your network traffic, devices that are connected and test out your speed.
If you are a gamer and you have the Killer chipset then I would assume that you are on the cutting edge of technology and want to take full advantage of your gear by using a router that works with it. This router is likely a no brainer for you. If you are like me and are looking for a good router but do not have the Killer technology, then this is also an excellent router however linksys may offer a lower priced option that works just as well.

Found this router to be an average performer. Love the interface but its key selling feature which is the Killer Prioritization engine may not have any real world advantage. I returned this product because I found its wifi distance or coverage to be a little on the week side.

Hi Davidm71,
We appreciate your review of the router. We could have tried changing its wireless channel to help optimize the router since wireless interference and, physical obstruction could cause some issues with its Wi-Fi. For further queries, just send us an email at [email protected] with your contact details, along with the link to this post so we can have our Escalation Engineers look into the details more closely.

Picked this up hoping it would be better than it's non-gaming counterpart. Unfortunately, it has the exact same hardware, with the addition of different software that is supposed to magically decrease ping times. I do have killer networking hardware on my computer with a gigabit internet connection, and can confirm that it does not increase performance.
The user interface is severely lacking, not labeling the 160Mghz channels, and some features are just straight up removed. If you're even interested in this model, go with the non gaming version, as you can do your own tweaking for better performance instead of relying on shoddy software. Cheaper too

Linksys is one of my favorite brands when it comes to routers. they work great and easier to install and often times very user friendly.
The Linksys WRT32X is no exception it was easy to set up get up and running and go. The range on the router was terrific, There is one corner of my house upstairs that gets spotty performance depending on the router. I was easily able to get a solid strong signal using this router.
All my devices and gaming consoles worked great through ethernet and through Wi Fi. My internet is 60mbs down and I was actually constantly seeing 62-65 down using this router.
This router is great especially if you are looking for a router for gaming this one is great. I would caution that the big thing they tout on this router is its Killer Network integration not many products can use this feature so you could probably find a Linksys router that works just as well that you would not be paying the premium for this feature.
If you are interested in this Router do not hesitate to buy it. It is great and highly recommended.
