NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR JITTERBUG

This review is for the new LIVELY flip phone with ALL of them in mind. Obviously the designers of these phones don't have a clue what many seniors (and caregivers) go through . . . It seems as if they make 1 thing better but then 2 things worse! Ordered this Lively flip phone because my 82 year old Dad's Jitterbug flip phone started having too many issues. The GOOD as compared to the (previous version) Jitterbug 1. They FINALLY got the charging mechanism RIGHT. USB type C! Seniors CAN NOT tell which direction a Micro-USB goes in and end up ruining the pins. 2, The volume on the ringer/receiver/speaker is louder than the previous Jitterbug. 3. The ringer and receiver volume CAN BE LOCKED now! It's about time someone figured out that when a senior holds the phone, they constantly touch the volume down button on the side . . .then they can't hear the phone ring nor tell how to turn the ringer or receiver volume back up. 4. You can turn off text notifications. If your senior is not tech savvy like ours, they probably will never use texting anyway. The bad part of this though is that if you turn it off, it still shows up in the menu for contacts - which is confusing to a senior that only makes phone calls. 5. IF your senior is still able to drive, it is good that it alerts you when they leave home and when they are back home. It isn't real time, sometimes lags 10-30 minutes in our cases. You can also see where they are on a map from an app on YOUR phone should they get lost.l The BAD: YOU CAN'T MERELY OPEN THE PHONE TO ANSWER!!! WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA FOR SENIORS????? 1. The front display is very dim. It appears there is no menu option to brighten it. 2. For whatever reason, they MOVED the YES/NO buttons on left and right respectively to BACK/OK on the opposite side they were on. WHY???? If you go from Jitterbug to Lively Flip now the "Yes" is on the right side and reflects "OK" rather than the left side. This will absolutely confuse seniors that were already familiar with Jitterbug flip. In addition, at the very least . . . why not make the OK button GREEN and Back button RED? Seniors are creatures of habit which helps with functions . . . even if dementia or lack of technology exists. 3. Although there is an option to block individual numbers, with all the scams out there on seniors, it would be WAY MORE convenient if you could block all numbers EXCEPT who is in their contact list. Scammers can change their numbers 10 times a day, so blocking individual numbers really isn't a big help. 4. Seniors do better with pictures. AT LEAST have an option for a picture to appear when family or friends are calling! 5. Extremely hard for seniors to figure out how to delete missed calls. The UGLY: 1. The absolute best part of the OLD Jitterbug flip was it COULD be programmed to open right up to the first contact and all the senior needed to do was press YES to call that individual (which is most likely the person they call 9 out of 10 times anyway). They have now changed it and, although it does open to contacts, it now takes 4 button pushes to actually make a call. This is absolutely the worst decision on the makers of this phone. How anyone thought this was a better option than the way it was on the Jitterbug is beyond me. TOO MANY STEPS FOR A SENIOR TO MAKE A CALL. 2. NO SPEED DIAL - at least with speed dial they could carry a 1-9 list in their purse/wallet and hold down that number to call family. Nothing about this phone makes it simple to use for someone who has limited experience with electronic devices. Very disappointed - will be returning today.

It was advertised as easy to use for seniors but it was not. There is no way to set up favorites and no voice dailing. The Menu setup was very confusing as well.

Contacted support and was on the phone for over an hour with them trying lots of things. I finally told them I would be returning it. Bestbuy took the return with no problems. Thanks bestbuy! Will not try lively again.

I had to return it. Her eyesight is bad and it had no speed dial feature which is the only way she can make a call.
