Activate the phone at the store?

My activation experience was....awful. Yes, I'm no good at this stuff but....just following the screen prompts made me crazy. #1: System told me up front that there's no service in my zip. Then it told me there was service. Then it told me both at the same time. #2: Told me during 4 or 5 tries that is could not confirm the serial number of my phone......a number I took off the box, which was sitting at my elbow. #3: When I entered credit card info, the system itself replaced the numbers with X's, just like in most security programs. But then it told me it could not proceed unless I supplied numbers. There were other problems. Total time just activating (had not even opened the box), about 2 hours. Now, I'm eager to see how the phone works. I will still give a "Yes" on recommending, since the phone is so highly rated. I can't comment on the rest of the phone experience.

The phone itself is good. But told the salesman wanted a red phone, but did not tell us they didn't have one until after the purchase.

The GreatCall phone is easier to see with the bigger numbers. My husband likes the size because it fits in his pocket. He also likes that the phone really tells him what he needs to do when he opens it. It is much better for him to handle.

This phone is very cheaply made and breaks easily. We have replaced it three times in just a few years for my elderly father. It also is not as easy to operate as it claims to be.

I got this phone for my dad who is in a nursing home. He has always used a flip phone and thats what he wanted to continue to use. The numbers are big, its easy for him to use, and its very simple. Just what he needed!

My mother-in-law likes her phone. It was similar enough to her old phone, so the transition was easier. She is not and never has been into technology, so the simplicity of this phone was important.

Good basic phone if you don't use much. Texting is difficult without digital keyboard; probably ok using voice but haven't tried yet.

Great size phone for an older person but very hard to use compared to other flip phones as deleing mesaages and texts are hard to do. And the service with the company is not good...

Phone Not As Simple As We Thought

Purchased this phone for my Mom who is in a nursing facility and has vision problems. It arrived quickly and got a great price. My brother set up the phone before getting it to her. It was not as simple as they make it sound. My Mom has not yet tried the phone because she will need help from staff to learn it. But it certainly seems from my brother trying to try it out that they could have made it easier to use. I will update once she actually gets to use it.

Gets 2 stars for the sales price and activation help. Very disappointed this phone is advertised as an easy to use phone for seniors. Examples...to answer a call they have of open the phone and press OK, should be to just unfold (open) the phone and answer. The Alexa feature did not work for us after all the steps to setup. It would go through the motions but never actually make the call, even if it worked, the user would have to say Alexa, ask Lively to call (person from the contact list). Should only have to say Alexa, call (contact), or better, just call (contact). Even setting up contacts was not that easy. You have to create the contact first with a number then save it, then, go back and edit to add other numbers and whether it is a cell, home, or office and other details. This caused me to, initially, add contacts with the different numbers and, after learning the correct way, had to delete them. Now Alexa still sees the deleted contacts, it appears, as I was testing its failed use. I see no way my mom could add to or edit contacts herself. To make a call from the contacts list was a long training session for my mom too. Several steps to get to the number to call....our little phrase to help her remember the steps was "if its in Blue, what do you do, hit OK" each time. Hope Lively will update their firmware or whatever to correct these issues about call answering and Alexa use if at all possible. The Flip 2 would be a true "Seniors" phone if they would.

This flip phone is great for seniors. I bought iti for my mother-in-law who is in her 90s. Before I made the purchase I called the Best Buy store and the salesman indicated to me that I could use the phone on carrier my mother-in-law was already using. Alas this was not the case and I had to subscribe with Lively, so the monthly fee became a little higher and I had to pay for activation of new service when I thought all I had to do was mover the SIM card to the Jitterbug phone.

Bought this when AT&T would no longer support their old phone. Great value and does everything the old phone did and more. Very low-cost plans to get minutes needed. Easy to use for anyone. Told AT&T to take a hike with their over-priced products and services and poor customer service.
