    Works as Intended

We've tried this with two different bottles of wine so far, one red and one white, both in the $15-20 retail price range. Obviously, being home users, we don't have a scientific way of measuring whether or not the sulfites were removed from the wine, but our one friend who has had problems with sulfites in the past was able to enjoy the wine without any trouble. We all agreed that the aeration feature made a noticeable difference in taste, softening the tannin character of the red wine. Overall, this purifier seems to work as intended, but it's hard to say for sure whether all of the sulfites are being removed, and a quick pass through the aeration mode doesn't completely take the place of letting younger reds breathe. Also, at currently available prices, factor in an additional $3 to the cost of any bottle of wine you purify.

Interesting ... but average at best.

The Ullo filtration/aerator system is diminutive and simple in construct. This review will be short and sweet. The Review: This product is interesting but we found it mediocre at best. The rotating head is stiff & cumbersome and not what we would consider having a 'premium' feel. Installing the filter is pretty simple. Your presented with two options once you are ready to use the Ullo, with aeration and without. I personally suffer from wine induced headaches. There are many reviews out there from similar sufferers and you'll have to decide how valid those claims are. For me, the removal of sulfites from typical heavy red's that we drink didn't result in any positive outcome. Nor is there a perceived improvement in the taste of the wine - via the aeration or filtration process. I own aerators that work to 'open up' a bottle of dormant wine and this Ullo performs no better and in some respects performs worse than other designs - so that functionality is in no way a bonus. Lastly, we've demo'd this with friends & family and no one can pin down any improvement in the resulting taste of the filtered vint. Too subjective and variance based. The last comments I'll make to the suitability of this product for it's intended purpose is the egregious price of admission for the filters and the mere fact that you will be using a lot of them if you drink with any regularity. This 'arrangement' is very similar to the shaver blade business model. If the filters were at or below 50% of the current price schedule, this business model would be more successful by way of opening the door to potentially higher volumes - regardless of the actual gains or benefits of the filtration process. This is a 'feel good' product for the purchaser and offers more in the way of having 'conversation piece' value. Plain and simple. Another indication of the 'mind set' of this offering is the price for carafes and decanters offered by Ullo. Go to their website and research that. Nothing special here - just outrageous pricing. In a nutshell, this gizmo doesn't perform up to expectations - it is way over priced for the unit and the filters and therefore I can not recommend this device as something worth purchasing ... unless you want to impress your friends.

The product was easy to assemble and fit nicely on top of my wine glass. It DID improve the taste (...less bitterness...) of my red wine, in a side-by-side comparison.

We normally use aerators for our wine so we were excited to see that this also filters the wine as well. At first I was not sure if the filter would make a difference but it really did. Right away we popped open a cheap bottle of Yellowtail red and poured 3 glasses. The first glass was a regular untreated wine, the second was only filtered, and the third was aerated and filtered. The filtered glass was noticeably better than the unfiltered glass. The glass that was filtered and aerated was by far the best glass. The taste was smooth and not bitter. We are sold on it! We already looked up replacement filters for when we inevitably use up the 4 included filters. I highly recommend this item as it makes those cheap gift bottles of wine taste superb!

Looks Great, Can't Say it Does Much of Anything

So, the idea behind this is pretty cool. Pass your old wine through a filter and aeration and get something that tastes almost as good as when the bottle was first opened. The Ullo certainly looks good. It doesn't seem out of place sitting on a counter or shelf with other wine tools. It fits the decor. However, that's about where the positives end. I tried this with a few different wines that had sat out for various times. The Ullo simply did not make a difference in taste or anything else (I looked for color and smell changes too) to the wine that passed through it. I just simply can't recommend this for anything other than a conversation piece at your next wine party or to test the taste buds of your local wine expert.

I used this 2x this weekend, and it worked great. I bought wine that was $5.99 and $7.99. We did a before and after taste test, and we could clearly tell the difference! The filtered wine didn’t have the same chemical taste, which was especially noticed at the finish. This is the perfect gift for the wine drinker!!!
