Setting up was difficult from the begging, you have to use a computer to do that and have to create account online. Half of the time it does not functioning correctly. It’s better to use/buy a simple & cheaper universal remote control, instead of wasting your time to figure out the problem, every time you turn on/off your TV.

After multiple programing attempts, remote still does not tune devices to the proper settings so must step through many "help" pages to get devices to the correct settings. Typical logitech remote but even worse than most with even more steps to get things set right. Don't bother with this or any logitech remote as they all cause more frustration than they are worth.

I got this for a good price so maybe it was refurbished or something, because everyone loves them. My problem is that, every time, it did not turn on one device, or turn off one device. You then you have to get everything back into sync. Major pain. I replaced it with a twenty dollar one that has made my life a lot easier. People love this item so maybe I had a bad one.

    Great Remote

Bought this during the black friday sale so the price was definitely right. Setup was extremely easy, might not be as easy for someone who doesn't know the exact model numbers of their components or what input setting their components are connected to on their TV. It only took me about 25 minutes to set it up and it worked like a charm. As for the durability side of it, it holds up really well because I have an 11 month old who has thrown it a few times and it still works just fine, along with a little drool now and then. Love the fact that it lights up just from moving the remote, so when I'm watching a movie I don't have to chance it by pushing a random button, instead I just move the remote. My only complaint would be the time it takes to actually turn components on and off, but a very very minor complaint.

The Geek Squad set this up with my system. I was hoping to go from 1 or 2 remotes to 1. Now I need 2 or 3 remotes to run everything. I checked no for "would your recommend this to a friend, and only gave it a 1 star rating, since I do not know if it is the Geek Squad or the remote. I think that it is the Geek Squad.

Great Universal Remote for Basic Needs

Setup of the Harmony 650 is very easy. Plug the remote into your computer with the included cable. The Logitech website directs you through selecting your devices and then installs the codes you need. No more looking-up codes and trying multiple to find the one that works best. My Harmony 650 controls my LG TV, DirecTV receiver, ROKU 2 XD, LG Bluray player, and RocketFish HDMI port selector. With the single tap of a button the Harmony 650 turns on the devices to be used, turns off any from the previously used function, and switches inputs. Watching TV is as easy as tapping the "Watch TV" button. When we are ready to switch to the ROKU (smart streaming device), we click "Watch ROKU" from the LCD display screen on the Harmony 650. The LCD screen changes with whatever function you are currently using, giving you a context sensitive menu, which is great. One note of importance is that you must keep the Harmony 650 pointed at the devices until it has time to cycle through whichever ones it needs to manipulate, remembering that it needs to turn multiple devices on or off and possibly change inputs on multiple devices. The one aspect for which I was not ready was the battery life. Having moved from the the standard DirecTV remote to the Harmony 650, I was used to changing batteries once or twice a year. The battery life is considerably shorter with the Harmony 650 depending on how often it is used, most likely due to the LCD screen. An upside though is that the LCD screen saves battery life by going dark after a few seconds. I was pleasantly surprised that the Harmony 650 was able to control my RocketFish HDMI port selector without any manual programming. I expected that I would need to train the Harmony 650 to control this device, but it was already in the library of device codes. Overall, we are extremely pleased with our Harmony 650, and I would recommend it to anyone needing a basic universal remote. Other models offer additional benefits, such as radio-frequency (RF) control, but are also more expensive. I am a BestBuy employee and I work in the Home Theater Department. I purchased the Harmony 650, and received no compensation from BestBuy or the manufacturer for this review.

    Great Replacement for Multiple Remotes

I picked this remote up at the Black Friday price. So far I'm very happy with it. I wanted a remote that would automatically change the source when I wanted to play a game or watch a movie. The only thing that is very dissapointing which I did not see when looking at reviews. The reason I gave it a value price of average is because, If you want to use this to control (Turn on and off also) your PS3. You need a Harmony Adapter which retails for $59.99. Now the whole point of this remote was to switch the source of the TV and control my PS3 to save on remotes. I am going to see if the next up Harmony Remote needs this adapter. If so, I'll just spend the money and get the adapter. Overall, the remote is awesome. Very easy to setup. All you need is your model #'s of the devices you want to control. Plus when you lift the remote up. The backlighting turns on. Controls my direcTV DVR perfectly. Has a button for list of recorded shows. Great remote for the cost other than the adapter needed for the PS3. If you do not have a PS3. This is Great for the cost. If it was not for the adapter. I would have gave it 5 stars all the way down. One more thing. I'm not sure about the battery life that others are saying is bad. But just get 2 rechargeables and you will have no issues.

The product setup while sounding simple is far from easy and required three separate support calls totaling over 3 hours to finally make it work. It turns out you need special codes and lots of second level support. Try to find another brand if possible, even if it means paying more. Even now, the product doesn't work correctly 100% of the time.

I am really loving this. I had been wanting to get a universal remote, and when I moved to a small apartment recently, the need for uncluttered space pushed me over the edge. The Harmony 650 was quick and simple to program online. I have a newer Vizio TV, an 18 month old high end Samsung Bluray player, an 5 year old Tivo Premier HD DVR, and a 3 year old HP computer. I was even able to program a custom function using my TV as a computer monitor. The Harmony 650 learns your devices over the internet from your input of brand and model number. Then, you program in each function (such as "Watch TV"), and list each item that needs to be activated to do so. Then, when you would like to watch TV, you just press a single button on the remote (TV), and it activates each device and the proper settings. At first, it may not get it exactly accomplished, and you can press a help button and then it usually gets it right. It seems to learn from its mistakes, and gets better each time. After a few days, it almost always is perfect. Be sure to leave it pointing at your components and give it a few seconds to complete the series of processes. I've been very happy with the product, and I would definitely buy it again. It is enough remote for the limited set up I have, though I can see some people that have a lot of components would need a remote that can handle more than 5 devices. But for me, it's perfect. (As a note, I did not add my computer to the device list since it doesn't use a remote. I just programed the TV to use the correct HDMI setting to use it as the monitor).
