Good Remote
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My primary motives in purchasing this remote are: 1. Minimize wear and tear on the remote that came with the TV and DVR's. 2. Improved IR signal and better quality buttons. One particular inexpensive DVR has such a cheap remote you have to be like 3 feet away with fresh batteries for it to work and the buttons are of such low quality you have to press the button several times. Totally unacceptable. This logitech remote fixes these issues and works great. You need to download a MyHarmony app to your computer. Plug the USB cable into your computer and remote. The myharmony app allows you to program 8 different remotes. You need to know the manufacture of the device you want to control and the model number. Its very simple. Most devices have this information on the back of the device and in the owners manual. The Logitech remote has back-lit buttons that make it easier to use in a dark room. However the buttons are small and you need fairly good eye site.

Great Universal Remote
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first good universal remote. I will never go back to basic remote. It works with all my devices with ease, and you even customize the buttons and screen buttons to what you use the most. Now if you want a more than five devices you have to spend at bit more money, but this is the perfect remote for what i have.

Step Down From Harmony 700
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had I not owned an older Harmony 700 remote, I might have given the newer 650 three or even four stars. But while the 650's lighter gray color makes reading text below the keys (like alphabet letters under the number keys) easier than the 700's, there are way too many downsides to the 650 to give it anything but a overly gracious two stars. The 650 is uncomfortably lighter then the 700 (no, it's not the regular versus rechargeable batteries as the Best Buy salesman tried to tell me) and the balance is worse, making it borderline cumbersone to hold and operate. It's glossy finish is almost cartoonish. The display is admittedly slightly brighter than the 700's, but the 650's viewing angle is poorer and quite annoying by comparison. And the 650's key backlighting is far less attractive, being dimmer and an unsightly yellowish color (the 700's is a nicer white). But most annoying (besides upgrading from the older software, which I'll comment on later) is the horrendous lag on the arrow keys that makes channel surfing through things like on-screen program guides at best frustrating. (As an aside, the 700 was much more responsive -- I've put it side by side with the 650, so it's definitely a difference between the remotes). At first, I thought that maybe the 650's lag was a faulty remote, but replacing it with another 650 made no difference. After over 5 years of flawless service, my 700's keys were showing wear (the backlighting was coming through around the edges of several of the more often used keys), and for some reason, Logitech chose to discontinue it. The 650 was arguably better (at least on paper), supporting more devices (I was already at my limit with the 700 and was thinking of adding another one or two). I was comfortable trading off additional devices for not being able to use rechargeable batteries (another advantage of the 700). So I was unpleasantly surprised when my new 650 was recognized by the MyHarmony 7.7.0 software I used with the 700, but a message in red text said I was still at my limit for devices and couldn't add any more (meaning I was not able to approach the 8 supposedly supported by the 650). I called Logitech and got a support person whose broken English was not only nearly unintelligible, but clearly she couldn't understand me either. Still, though it was quite an effort to communicate with her, she seemed very knowledgeable about the product and said the limitation was with the older software and that I needed to upgrade to the newer version to benefit from all of the 650's features. I had spent hours creating very detailed activity pages and custom hard key programming for all of my AV system components, and I was not willing to redo all of this if that was a consequence of upgrading the software. But she assured me everything would copy over unchanged and I would be good to go. Unfortunately, upgrading to the new software meant I could not keep the older software on my computer (apparently they are completely incompatible), and like a fool, I believed her and went ahead with the upgrade. I'm sorry to say that my experiences with most support people have not been all that good, and she did nothing to change my pessimistic opinion. My programming did NOT copy properly. Some of the older functions were no longer supported by the "upgraded" software (like leaving a blank key on an activity page to make grouping of commands on various pages more sensible and intuitive), and only a few of my commands in each of my activities were actually properly replicated, interspersed with a random and incomplete sampling of stock Logitech commands for my devices (which was limited in most cases, very limited for devices like my Roku box, and non-existent for my Chromecast device, the latter requiring jumping through hoops to properly set up). Well, I was in deep already, so I went ahead and tried to reprogram my new remote to emulate my old one as best as I could. Fortunately, I still had my 700 as a reference, and also to use for custom key programming on the 650 to replace several keys that were no longer in Logitech's stock keys for various devices (like no DVR command for my DISH Hopper -- a huge oversight on Logitech's part). [Some of these problems I immediately discovered on the phone as Logitech's support person walked me through the upgrade process. When I told her that things didn't copy properly and blank keys on screen programming had disappeared, her response was simply that she knew that -- doubtful since she said earlier that everything would perfectly copy over -- and I would enjoy the new software much better anyway (a truly patronizing response since one spends very little time time programming the remote in comparison to the amount of time they actually use it).] Eventually I was able to recreate something that approximated my original 700's setup, but the lag on the direction keys is so frustrating that I find myself still using my highly worn 700 and a second remote to overcome the 700's number of devices limitation. I would NOT recommend the 650 to anyone, but instead suggest that if they want the 650's functions, they search for one of the few remaining new 700s on the web and get it instead. It may be a bit more expensive, but it is by far a much better remote. (Logitech still supports both versions of their remote programming software, and the new software will work with the 700 as well. So if someone likes the new software better and aren't concerned about some of the differences with the older software, they can choose it instead.)

One Ring to Rule Them All . . .
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For someone like me who uses the PS3 for a DVD player most of the time, this accessory is wonderful. One remote that really does take care of the TV, the DVR, and the DVD player (PS3). And unlike other "universal" remotes, which may have half a dozen different codes for your brand of TV set(so you have to find the right one by trial and error), this works from model numbers. Plug it into any USB port on your computer, go online, enter the model number of the TV and the DVR, and Logitech's data base does the rest. The LCD equipment menu means there's no trying to figure out whether you're powering up the TV or the playstation. I'm so conservative, I still have a VCR (well, I use it as a doorstop), but I put all my individual remotes in my bottom drawer after using the Harmony 650 for one day. Finally, it is much faster and more responsive than RF remotes. No lag time.

Harmony remotes don't float.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had to replace a 4 year old harmony remote because my 2 year old son performed a buoyancy test on it. I like the ergonomics and lighting on the new remote. The setup is about the same as the old one with the online step by step procedure. Controlling 5 devices is more than enough for most households. Remember that your video game consoles cannot be controlled with this so they do not need to be part of your 5 device list. I do not like the limited default functions for each activity. I have to go in manually and add functions such as tuning for the "Listen to Radio" activity or DVD menu access for the "Watch a Movie" activity. This can be somewhat complex for most folks. I had trouble with the on my first Harmony. Overall this is a good remote that does (mostly) what I had hoped it would do with just the basic setup. Of course, I also bought the extended warranty this time...

First Impressions
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My advice is to take your time, have fun with the set up. Get your EXACT model number for each device and CAREFULLY type them in when asked. Know EXACTLY how and where your devices are connected and the input sources that control them. I did exactly as instructed and everything is working perfectly. I have: a Samsung 51" plasma tv, Sony STR-DN 840 av/receiver, Samsung DVD-500 and a ROKU 3050x (it's not a "Roku 2 XD". The model number is on the bottom). I set the activity buttons on the remote and everything works! There are other functions I haven't gotten into, yet, i.e., accessing the on-screen display of the receiver, but I'll look into this when I have a little more time. Don't know about the issues of battery life or "I threw the remote against the wall and it quit working"... hopefully I won't get into either one. ;o)

EXCELLENT!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a little leadry about paying $100 for a remote but I went for it anyway. Glad I did! I have replaced 3 remotes already. y Dish Network remote, my TV remote and my surround sound remote. This remote makes all the units fully functional as if it was the remote that came with the unit. You can set it up to turn on and off whatever you want based on what activity you are doing ie. dvd, tv etc. If it is not correct... no worry, it asks you if everything you need is on and if it is not, it corrects it for you. I feel this remote has been well worth the money!

Great Remote
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been a harmony remote fan for years, and when I added a TV in my bedroom, I was looking for a cheaper harmony, and while this is cheaper in price, it's been exactly what i wanted and needed in function. No issues.

So easy to set up
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This remote was so easy to set up. It literally took more time to gather all of the model information from the multiple devices than it took to actually program the remote control. I am very satisfied with this product and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a universal remote. Awesome product!

A great remote and easy to setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I read many reviews about this remote, both good and bad. But quite simply, this universal remote is the real deal. Setup was was piece of cake using a laptop / PC. The hardest / most time consuming thing is getting the model numbers of your devices (tv, receiver, DVD player and etc). Even if your device doesn't come up in the vast online database, the remote can learn your device's original remote commands by "teaching" it with the original remote. I cannot neglect to mention the remote flawlessly controls the XBOX 360. The remote has a clear to read LCD, night lighting, and a good ergonomic feel. I would highly recommend this remote. It replaced 5 of mine flawlessly. Excellent work Logitech. I also have the Harmony Link for use with iPad and iPhone and again same great experience with another well designed and functional product.

Super Easy setup
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This remote was super simple to setup. Go to the website type in your equipment brand and serial number and sync it. It's that simple. I had to manually add a command for my DVR box which was pretty straight forward, you select the command and "drag" it to the selected button on the remote picture. Then resync it. I also added my Xbox on this remote, and while it does not turn on the Xbox it can turn on the receiver and TV, which works great, then I simply turn on my Xbox through the controller like normal. I should have done this a long time ago and removed the 5 remotes I had. The screen is not touch screen, but that is not necessary as the button layout is straight forward. The screen turns on by touch and you can access the "help" button or the options for the device. Super simple, clean and functional!

Last only a year or so.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have owned two of these remotes now. After a year or less they no longer stay on. The battery compartment has some problem that the connection to the batteries isn't constant and jostling the remote causes it to shut off.

This is really great.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When we bought our new tv & dvd player I got this so my life would be easier. My son had to set it up because there's no way I could figure it out...but I'm not very tech minded so that's not really surprising. But, it's set up and I love that I can watch tv or a movie with just a click of a button. We have a dvr cable box and it works just like the remote that come with it, so it really has replaced all our remotes. Compared to other universal remotes I think it was a great value also.

Reduce the Clutter
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are looking to simplify the control of your entertainment devices and free up room on your coffee table this is the way to go. Set up is easy and the remote even learns as you use it and corrects mistakes that may have been made during configuration. The ability to configure multiple actions with the press of a single button is an awesome feature. After using this product I will be sure to always have a Harmony remote!

Good Remote, easy to use
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Set up was very easy. Took a little bit of time, but easy. Harmony requires you to download the software and to create a username and password. One may say unnecessary, but I say Yes, this is important. That way your settings are saved and simple to go back in and edit if needed. I tested it out on my devices and everything worked as it should. So nice to not worry about several remotes. My only one complaint and the reason why I took one star off is that it is not compatible with Amazon Fire TV. It is, however compatible with Apple TV and Roku. But, if you are willing to pay $300 for a remote then it will work with Amazon Fire TV. Sorry, not in my price range. Remotes get too used and abused to justify $300.

Can the wife learn to use it?
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It was a great price on Black Friday. It's a pretty slick device, though if one of the devices gets out of sync, you have to go through several steps to get all of the devices to where they should be. This seems to happen alot with my wife and kids. They will use a different remote to turn something on or off and the Harmony remote doesn't know. Then when you use the Harmony remote, something turns off when it should turn on. I tried hiding the other remotes, but then there was a different problem. When you push the one-step button, there may be 20 seconds of remote control signals sent out to adjust the different devices to the correct settings. If someone walks in front of the remote or it gets set aside in the middle, something doesn't get set correctly. Then you might as well just use all the different remotes.

Great choice for the price, even my wife likes it.
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I purchased this for my wife, she was so tired of all the remotes. I like the setup. Simple to add the devices it controls and assign buttons for a DVR. I set this device up to control a Dennon AVR 2119, Dish Network DVR, SamSung TV and a SamSung BluRay/DVD player. Now, I press one button beside the menu item that says: Watch TV, Watch Satellite or Watch DVD and I'm done. Note, if you have a DishDVR device you will want to configure a couple of the buttons that control the DVR to make it easier. I have only had it 6 months now and can't speak for the durability but it has performed perfectly so far. My kids have dropped it several times and it keeps working. On the negative side, the menu screen is a little small for me to read well but there are only 3 to choose from and I have it memorized now.
