    Outstanding universal remote

I typically don't write reviews, however my positive experience with this product deserves the review. All of my home entertainment components are behind wood doors, and this product allows you to integrate all components into one remote (most importantly your smart phone) without having the typical wire complexity of an IR repeater. Additionally it allows you to organize your entertainment activities (watch TV, play a DVD movie, Apple TV, play music, etc.) into easy touch buttons that automatically activate the components needed for each activity. This functionality makes it easy for the less technically savvy in the household to easily use the entertainment system without frustration. Last, once you have your first smart phone setup each subsequent phone automatically integrates all programmed data once it connects to the Harmony which happens instantly. The only advice I have is to download the app onto your phone and use the easy step by step process to setup the system. I had read that connecting to a computer and/or other ways of setup were confusing, so I tried the app and right out of the gate the system was up and running. Great experience and lots of happiness from others in the house that find many remotes and many components frustrating.

    Excellent product to combine remotes

This is the simplest product to setup using the app. The app gives step by step instructions to add each device and then helps us with activities and which devices should be included. Once the setup is done you can start using the remote, no additional steps needed. Only word of caution is that make sure you have all your model numbers of the devices handy. Also if you change the inputs in future you will have to update the activity settings. All in All a very good product and well thought.

    App needs some work

The basic remote it comes with works great. It's nice that the device runs through your network, so you're not limited to line of sight from IR or small range from RF. The app is pretty bad, with a solid app this would easily be the best remote out there for a simple home theater.

This started my whole home automation system!

This is THE hub to get. I connected my lights, my entertainments system, etc. With the help of some other non-logitech android apps-- I don't even need the Amazon Echo to say things to automate my house. I have my phone with me anywhere I go anyway. I just say my keywords, my phone picks it up, sends commands to this hub and I control my house like a charm! PS-- you just need the hub. Logitech has attached so many other options to the hub to make it convenient for the regular consumer but as long as you have the hub and the supporting logitech android apps, the physical remote is only a frill.

Does everything you need and more

I have had previous Harmony remotes over the years and they keep getting better. I still use one of the older ones on another TV. Since I am already registered with Logitech, all I needed to do was transfer over my system information from my last remote to this one in 1 step! Easy. I was then able to tweek a few things I had been wanting to do. Then, once I enabled BOTH skills for Harmony on my Amazon Echo (make sure you go to skills, not home controls and enable both harmony skills) I am able to use voice controls for my entertainment system. Since I only have a STB/DVR, DVD, Smart TV and AV receiver the limited activity buttons are fine. They are able to be double programmed with a short and long press in order to get up to 6 activities instead of just 3 if needed.

    Great simple remote.

I bought this just for the "simple" remote. The hub and app control is an added benefit. Setup was pretty simple but a little cumbersome for what I needed. Using this to control a Tivo, Sony receiver and Xbox One. The volume and mute for my Sony receiver will stop working, while other controls for the Tivo continue to work, and sometimes they will randomly start working again and vice versa. I don't like that I can't hold down a volume key to quickly lower or raise the volume by more than 1 level at a time. Also, simple packaging and instructions do not mention anywhere that if you have any security on your wifi network you will need to use a computer to setup. I had to google it to find out. Also had to google whether I needed to charge the remote or if it had user replaceable batteries or not; and what type. Turns out it was a watch type battery.

Tryst me, this is the remote you want!

So I have been on a 10+ year quest for the ultimate Universal remote with simple, one touch activities (ex.Watch TV, Play PS3, Listen to Radio) I also have been dying for a remote to have that old fashioned feeling the old tv and cable remotes had of instant reaction to button clicks, push channel up, and it changes before your finger leaves the button, you remember, right!. I've tried multiple harmony remotes, most recently the Harmony One Advanced, which was getting close to satisfying my need for precision and reliability, and my fiance's ( My fiance, as soon as she has one hiccup with technologies, she tosses it aside and complains it's a waste of money, and unreliable. "I want the original remote back for the tv, it changes the channel as soon as I push a button", she says, typically). Well not with this one! She loves it, and we both finally get the important features, functions, and reliability we have been seeking for years! The hard buttons on the remote are actually our default, not the iphones we have or iPad as intended. This system was intended to be a hub for Iphone and Andriods, and a physical remote as a backup in times when your phone or tablet is being used or dead. i myself use the iPhone and ipad apps 50/50 with the physical remote, and both have lightning fast reaction time. When I hit a button for a function, activity, or just to power on/off, it's lightning fast and works every single time! The problem I had with the Harmony One and other harmony remotes, was the delay after hitting an activity, and how sometimes as those who have these know, it would miss a device turning on or off, or do the wrong one, etc. This one NEVER does the wrong order, device or misses one. And at the end of the night, one easy click on the OFF button, and BOOM, everything shuts down in one synchronized step. BUY THIS!!

    I love these "remotes"

This was actually the second one I've bought. I love setting up the activity buttons to set the room. They will turn on lights, devices, television, and sound system, then switch to the correct inputs. And the simple remote that comes with is adequate for most functions. I don't rely on the app to do too much. I do have more devices than available activity buttons, so do have to rely on it when I want to use one of my less used devices. I do use the app to function as a sleep timer to turn off everything when I'm going to bed so I can fall asleep and everything will get turned off. The biggest problem I have with this is how long it takes to switch between hubs. When I want to get ready for bed, I hate how long it takes to launch the app, switch to the bedroom hub, then set the sleep timer. Of course, if you only have one hub, you will only have to deal with how long the app takes to launch. There is a slightly upscaled version of this remote that adds dedicated home control buttons, but unless you need a way to turn on lights, power outlets, etc., it's probably not worth the added cost.

Coming from the Acoustic Research (no longer produced) to this was a breath of fresh air. Worked with all my components with easy setup features and is simple to use. Setup was a breeze. My component rack and set top boxes are in a back room so I needed the RF functionality. It knows what you want to do already so just tell it what components you have and the rest is done for you. We had a touch screen remote previously and did not care for that feature over time. Get this. You won't be disappointed.

It took a day to setup everything and so far so good no complaints about that however I've only been using it for a few days... My setup is in my man cave and the WiFi is inside the house... The hub is pretty picky on where it should be placed but once I found a happy medium all is well. Pro's: Setting things up is alittle tedious depending on how elaborate your setup is but for 2-3 devices it's great... Just dial in the brand and model and your good to go! Also the hub has stayed connected to WiFi so that's bonus. Con's: Small but still worth mentioning... The remote would be perfect if it had a backlight... Like I've mentioned I've only had it for a few days but come night time with little to no light in the room it's pretty much impossible to use, I find myself needing to turn on the lights or use my phone as the remote or use my phone as a light to see the buttons on the remote. Maybe with time and practice I will remember where the buttons are and that will help some but I still think there will be more mistakes than success :-( Also not having a screen makes setting up favorites useless. I'm happy for now but will definitely purchase an Harmony Touch or Ultimate remote in the near future.

Took a little bit to get going, but it works great

I have a pretty crazy setup in my basement with a bunch of different A/V products from VCR to Laserdisk player, Blu-ray as well as Amazon Fire TV. I was looking for something that I can use with everything. Finally came across this one. It had some problem with my projector which was not listed, but I was able to program the remote after a few failed attempts. Ultimately the programming turned out to be pretty simple - I was thinking I had to program every button one at a time, but if you start with the power button and get it to successfully turn it on and off, the rest should work fairly seamlessly. I contacted support and they also added the device to their list of supported devices, but by that time I had already programmed it successfully so I stayed with the setup I have. So now I can control my projector, receiver, VCR, laserdisk player, Blu Ray player, Set top box and Fire TV - all with one remote! Woo hoo! Only problem I have is that the remote is not backlit, so its often difficult to find the right key in the dark, and I don't like having to turn on the light just to find where the fast forward is. There is no separate key for fast forward (rewind) and next/prev chapters. You push and hold the FF key to activate next chapter. Has given me some fits as well. Otherwise, its awesome!

    Really Nice Remote

    Posted .

I read the reviews before I purchased the product. The complaints about latency or lag time to send commends, latency or lag time when the phone is woken up to connect with the hub, and screen time outs are all FALSE. There are no latency / lag issues. Now I do happen to have a great wireless router so it probably helps to have a good one (e.g. apple). It's very easy to customize. I've been using a Harmony Ultimate One for about a year now and I like this product better. And the whole family can use the Harmony app on their phones to their liking. There is a bit of set up confusion out of the box so take your time if you already have a Harmony account and are adding this. Just pay attention and you'll be fine. I would like an enhancement to be able to add the "favorites" icon to new activities that I define that use my TV. Seems "favorites" is there for the default "watch TV" activity. If you create an additional "watch TV" activity, cannot get the favorites to show up. I'm certain that the enhancement will eventually make it into a future rev release of the software.

Worth The Time to set up.

Reviews on technical devices always amuse me. When you read them you can generally tell the person does not have any technical savvy. That being said, here it is. Those of you setting this up for the first time be patient. I have a new Panasonic S-60 and it took three tries to set up the TV! As the documents say this system has over 55,000 equipment programs installed. When installing do what it says when it says and it will work exceptionally well. It does take time to set up but with patience you will be as happy as I am with this product. I have tried several remotes costing more money and have not been happier with the performance and price of this system. As previously stated the phone system is great but so is the supplied remote. Purchase and enjoy!

I've tried more than a few universal remotes over the years and this is the first that actually works without costing a fortune in either setup time or money. You really don't need to use the phone/iPod app to get the full value of this thing as the included remote is really sweet. You can set up the hub/remote with a laptop and Logitech's browser plug-in from myharmony.com. Pretty smart integration with their cloud-powered device database, really. If you choose to use their app, be sure you have a fairly recent Apple device; lots of people with older iPhones/iPods complained about the app and Logitech says to use an iPhone 4S or better. My family room has a new Yamaha AV receiver, an old Sony LCD TV, a BD player, a Tivo P4, and an AppleTV, and initial setup of the hub/remote took about 15 minutes with a laptop. Logitech warns of some funkiness with AppleTV and they were right; that took another 10 minutes to sort out but it works perfectly now.

    Happy with my Harmony

This is my first Harmony remote. I picked this up this morning and the basic setup was pretty quick and easy. I had a little trouble getting this work with my PS3 but in the end, I am able to successfully pair the hub with my PS3. For me, controlling PS3 using my Harmony remote is important because I use it for streaming movies, watch broadcast TV via HDHomeRun app and play games etc. Glad that I got it working. I am now controlling 4 devices ( Vizio TV in my family room, Vizio Sound bar, Epson projector and PS3). Planning to get a Nest and Philips Hue as well but not this year. I am a happy customer so far. Remote is good. Wish the android app is designed a little bit better. It works but I didn't find it very user friendly but I guess I can live with that. Now, I don't have to worry even if my 2 year old kid hides the TV remote or the PS3 controller in the kitchen pantry or some place where I can't find.. ;)

A must for Amazon Echo-Alexa users

    Posted .

I was able to finally be able to not having to use 5 separate remotes and the Harmony Smart Control was able to accomplish this. I got this especially to be able to control an Amazon Fire TV stick, as well as being able to control a HDMI switch, which this remote works flawlessly with them. The icing is that it does work well with Amazon Alexa as well so I can also use voice control to watch tv or turn on various entertainment components. Setup was not too difficult, but the instructions are sparse so expect to take a little time to get used to the Harmony App where you setup and configure the remote and hub and get a feel for how it works. Otherwise it is a great value and worth it if you own an Amazon Echo and especially with Fire TV. And its compatibility with older devices is unmatched.

No man needed to set up my own tech.. just sayin.. go to logitech and pull the documentation from there first and read first. I found this to be an easy set up with my system. I haven't had a desire to sign another contract to get a 2nd receiver in the bedroom so this was perfect. I have a splitter cable run to the 2nd tv and can control the stereo, main tv or satellite channel from anywhere in the house. I will say the instructions received with the product are worthless. They say to install the app on your smartphone or tablet first and do it from there.. however, getting the password into the unit and onto your network is much easier if you go to the logitech website and pull the instructions there.. then connect the unit to your pc and configure your modules, sequences and buttons from the myharmony website. Once that is done.. Then go to the smartphone app and you can easily control it from there. Hope this helps someone.

The future of remotes - it just works

The Harmony Smart Control is not perfect - but it really is the future of remotes and is the best remote I have ever used. It is simply much easier to understand and use than any of the Harmony universal handhelds. In less than 15 minutes I set-up a Vizio TV, Yamaha AV, Panasonic DVD, TiVO Roamio, and Apple TV with ease. The only minor issues were slightly less than intuitive setup questions on the app, like to move to the next screen in activity setup you needed to mark the HDMI input on the AV AND mark no input on the TV because the AV to TV cable was not an "input". Otherwise all the buttons work fine, the app is good and will likely get better, favorites on the app make it easy to find a channel, etc. This is a great purchase for anyone who wants to have a simple single remote control plus a smartphone app.

I love this remote system. A nice simple remote for most things but the app does everything that a full featured remote can do and more. I can use my cell phone to turn on the system from the bedroom and it's up and running when I get out there. I was able to pass the setup from my old Harmony One remote but it truly is not that difficult to setup.

Not perfect but the best yet

I currently own two Harmony One remotes and one Harmony 890. I had two 880's before that I have handed down to my sister. I owned the 600-series before that. I never loved the feel in the hand and the position of the buttons on the long skinny old style Harmony's and the new Harmony Touch does not appeal to me. Now on to the Harmony Smart Remote that I am now running along side my Harmony One in my main system. I thought I was buying this remote to have an iPhone wifi remote to use to control zone 2 of my system that is 2 floors above my main system and would continue to use the One as my main remote. I like the size and feel of the include bluetooth remote so much, I haven't touched the One since I programmed the Hub. Now the bad: The hub, being is IR emitter itself needs to be able to be turned off. The included emitter is good, there is an optional 4 head emitter that is available but there is NO harmony IR emitter jack to standard 3.5mm cables to use in more complex zoned systems where the IR signal is passed directly into the hardware. Most people won't have a problem with the hub just spewing out IR but I have the unique situation of two control units in the same cabinet that are the same brand...the hub now controls both even thought I'm only trying to control the one for the main room. I solved it by covering the hub and wiring the included emitter to send the signal to my Xantech IR receiver that is outside the cabinet. Once all that was solved, I was back to loving the remote again but they could make it easier. The programming directly on the phone was easier and quicker the the old way using the harmony software on the PC but it was not without a few quirks trying to complete the setup...these bumps only added a few minutes to the relatively short setup time. I think mine took about 40 minutes to create 5 activities and customize the button layouts the way I wanted them. It's really close to 5 stars, it just needs to be have some of the custom installer touches that some people need. I'll be buying another to control my secondary system.
