Iniitially I bought the remote and took it back the next day because I was having a hard time getting this product to work. Well, I had second thoughts on this product because of the overall positive reviews and decided to give it another go. I had set it up different this time around and everything worked pefect. My only complaint is that this product only included one mini ir blaster. No probelm, I purchased another one for only $10 to hook up my other devices. I really like the remote but I use my Harmony App as well. After set up, everything was very easy to use.

This is my first Harmony purchase and won't be my last. The hub alone can be updated online (to download new remote control codes) which makes this a future proof option. I use it to control my Samsung TV, Roku 3, Rocketfish HDMI switcher and even an oscillating fan! The mobile app is a great companion to this already awesome setup!

Great RF remote! Easy to use...

So I have other harmony remotes, the 650 and the HUB for the iphone. The beauty of this remote, is that it combines them with a very simple remote. That does not have to be explained to the family members. No menus, etc...All you have to do is write down the model numbers of everything you have, and go to the site. The rest is done for you. Here is something I didn't realize it did. It controls the PS3 and the WII TOO! It has a bluetooth interface for these. This turns them on and off for you. This is HUGE if you have a PS3 or WII.

The backup remote that comes with the device gets more use than the app does for me. I like the button layout and the way it feels in my hand. I figured the app would program itself with basic functions based on the devices that you input, but there is a little more that goes into making the app work the way you want it to. It is very convenient to control the volume from another room, or start up the system when you are in another part of the house, but the app seems more like a novelty than something I will use constantly. I find the backup remote to be a better solution. The IR blaster is strong and hits all of my devices, even though they are on different levels of my entertainment unit. Definitely worth the 100 bucks I paid.

    Great Universal Remote

I've own my fair share or universal remote controls and this one by far is the coolest one I've ever owned. I had the Harmony One before this one which was really nice but it suffered an unfortunate accident which rendered it pretty much useless and the GSP had expired which forced me to have to replace it so again I turned my attention back towards another Logitech product since I have had great service with them and love the design and functionality of their products. Remote controls tend to also get lost in my household and because I always have my iPhone on me I figured this version of Logitech's Harmony would be perfect and I would always know where my remote is plus it comes with a basic backup unit that everyone else can use. This unit did not require setup on a computer and was setup right from the app downloaded to my iPhone and was simple but a little time consuming which I didn't mind because it was fun and I was excited to have this cool new feature. Unlike the One, this version uses wifi and does not require me to point directly at the items I'm trying to control. When my wife falls asleep with the TV on I can power everything off from another part of the house without having to go into the room where our HT system is. SWEET! The basic remote that comes as part of the kit has all of the main controls needed to operate the system but the only thing extra I wish it had was backlit buttons so it could be used in a dark room but that's not my problem as my phone is backlit. Sucks for everyone else, though. Lol. The iPhone App is very responsive and powers on/off every component everytime. I've added the app to my wife's iPhone and when signing into the app all settings automatically synced up to match mines and the basic remote also syncs to match the configuration. This is a great upgrade in my opinion and I highly recommend this product to anyone who needs a simple solution that will control all your HT components even if you are in another room or have kids around who might walk off with the main remote and can't find it.

    Nice upgrade from Harmony One

My Harmony One's LCD screen broke which led me to research for a replacement. Although the Harmony Touch appears to be the logical upgrade, I was unhappy with the button placement, lack of physical number keys and a poor history with their LCD touch screen (my Harmony One only lasted 18 months). It was very easy to transfer my existing Harmony One activities and devices to the Smart Control. The my harmony.com site appears to be a nice upgrade from the older Harmony app. Although setting up the plug-in for Safari presented with a few challenges; but ultimately installed fine. For new users, my only suggestion is to read everything and give yourself plenty of time to set up your activities and devices.

We purchased this remote to replace another Harmony product that had stopped working. We had it set up to operate TV, Cable/DVR, Blu-Ray player, receiver, and XBox console in less than 20 minutes. Setup was extremely intuitive. While we have installed the app on 2 of our smartphones, we almost exclusively use the included remote - it is simple and manages all the functions we need. As I said, this replaced another Harmony remote, the 900. We had gone through about 5 of the 900 model in about 5 years, they just stopped working. I am hoping that this unit, being a little simpler, will last longer (though I did buy the protection plan just in case).

Best universal remote for smart home

Setup sometimes is a pain, but the library of devices is huge. Even some hdmi switch I bought 10 years ago on amazon was found. Once paired and set up and integrated with a smart home hub such as Alexa or google home, this universal remote is awesome. Having an app is awesome too. I use this everyday and it’s so nice to have one remote that can control 6 different devices, from an Apple TV to a ps4.

My first Harmony remote. Read lots of reviews before buying and I'm glad I did. Was a little concerned with the very limited instructions but it was a breeze. From unboxing to complete setup was about 15 minutes. Now I do have a simple set up - 75in Samsung smart tv, Sony 570 blu-ray, pioneer vsx 23 receiver, and Uverse cable box. Used android Samsung NoteII to do initial setup and once done it all transferred to the remote. Now I have one remote and with the push of one button I get surround sound and control all of my devices - no more fumbling around with 2 or 3 remotes. I'm very pleased and would recommend to others

Good Remote Standalone & With Alexa

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Was looking for a Harmony remote and saw this one on sale. The remote itself is basic, no display and not lit, but it comes with a hub that works with Alexa. First, I saw that the big complaint about the fancier remotes was battery life, something that this avoids without the bells and whistles. All I wanted was a better remote for my Apple TV and this works well. Only negatives with Apple TV is that you can't power the device off and fast forwarding is slow. Powering down is not an issue since you can set the Apple TV to automatically turn off after a period of inactivity. Controls are fine for TV and cable, no complaints there, but note that the remote only has 3 physical buttons for device selection, so it's limited. Programming was fairly straight forward and it's nice to be able to assign a string of commands to turn on all of your devices with a single button. For me, it's the TV, sound bar and Apple TV or Cable Box or Blu-ray Player. The nice part is that the commands don't come from the remote, but instead, comes from the hub, so equipment placement is flexible. The real treat is that it works with Alexa, so I can just tell Alexa to turn on my Apple TV and it powers everything on. If you own an Echo, this could be a good option.

    Very Nice Product

I have used Harmony remotes for years and like them. The Harmony HUB is a nice addition to their line-up. One of the biggest problems I've had with the older style of remote was getting my wife to keep the remote pointed at the entertainment center long enough to finish everything it was programmed to do. With the HUB it is just one click and you can put the remote down, you can even operate everything from a different room because it is an RF signal from the remote to the HUB. After a software update to the HUB it was able to find my Nest Thermostat and Nest Protect smoke detectors on my network giving me the option of controlling the from the Harmony App. The HUB also "works with Alexa" so if you have an Amazon Echo you can add voice control to the functions the HUB controls. There two minor reasons I did not give this product 5 stars. 1 No back light makes it hard to use in a dark room until you get used to where the buttons are. 2 The setup can be daunting but that is because there is so much you can do with this product for instance you can assign one function to a short press of a button and another to a long press of the same button and this is true for every button on the remote.

    Not what it should be

Difficult to set up. Does not support dual band routers - you must connect to a 2.4 ghz network and if you change your phone’s network to your faster 5 ghz network you will no longer be able to program buttons on the remote or adjust any other settings in the app - even if you switch back to the 2.4 ghz network, unless you reset up the hub as new and restore settings. Kind of defeats the purpose of a remote. And isn’t Logitech a tech company? “Tech” is in their name. So why are they several years behind the times when it comes to WiFi networks? Firmware updates causes loss of button programming so you have to start over. And if there was an issue customer support had to set up, they will attempt to charge you if the firmware update they pushed is 90 days or more after your original purchase. Basically, they push malware and try to charge you to fix it. Want to add a second hub to a second room? Trust me. It will mess up BOTH hubs. You spend more time fixing their design flaws than enjoying your entertainment center. Logitech needs a serious competitor to kick them in the a** to make quality a priority.

    Good but not great

I got this remote a couple days ago and so far it works pretty good. The #1 feature to me is the RF communication to the Hub so the remote does not have to be pointed at the TV. You can use it pretty much anywhere in the house. Just need to have the Hub close to your equipment. Occasionally I will have some flaky things happen that aren't supposed when I hit some of the Buttons I programmed and that can be a bit aggravating. The remote they give you works good, but the size of the # buttons are pretty small. I'm sure they did that thinking that most people will use their smart phone to control everything. To me it takes longer to get your smart phone out/wake it up/open up the app then it will just to grab the remote and use it. It also forces you to connect the Hub unit to your wireless network which since I'm not using a smart phone with it I didn't want to do that, but you have no choice but to connect it up. Programming the remote via MyHarmony website has been a bit of a chore, but after about 4-5 hours of trial and error I think I get everything figured out. All in all I recommend getting the smart control, just hope you are a bit of a tech savy person to be able to program this thing if you want to do some beyond basic things.

I just needed a universal remote, but not an "ultimate" one since i don't switch inputs so often. But when i do, this remote is so easy. I was able to set everything up from my cell phone and just update the device and I was good to go. All seven devices was all set up and programmed how i want it in 10 mins. If you need a universal remote, you can't go wrong with Harmony.

Great simple remote. We were looking to eliminate the need to use multiple remotes while at the same time keeping it simple. Just got a Google Home as well and appreciate the ability to link the two. (Albeit, on a limited basis) There's a learning curve to getting it setup but not horrendously difficult. We didn't need or want the more advanced remotes with displays so this one works perfectly.

Had a universal remote that was just not cutting it. My SO would make me get up to turn the TV on and change the volume as the remote would only change the channel if we were lucky but then .. my life changed ... I walked into Best Buy and was helped in finding a device that would control not only my TV but also my PS3, Cable box , and even my Blu-ray player. and he showed me this , the harmony smart control. Not only will it do all that , but it was also able to connect to out wifi Thermostat, Wifi enabled light switches. Now My SO can turn off the light even after they come to bed. with just an application form their smart phone. And the remote is programmable , so we can set on button to turn on the tv , go to HDMI2 , change the channel to our favorite one all with just one touch.

    2nd Revised Review

I wrote a bad review last summer when I returned it. Then my TV got hit by lightning and I bought a new TV. Finally, I bought another one of these. It set up easily, it works like a charm and none of the functions moved around. Conclusion: the problem was my old TV (LG). So, it may not work well with every TV, but it sure works well with my TCL. I apologize for the previous review.
