I would describe it as "sticky" - extra force is required to move the ball. Shaking it upside down or rolling it vigorously in a couple different directions loosens it up sometimes, but then it goes back to being tight.

It's pretty much the same except this one has a rubberized surface which I actually like. The best part is rotate the mouse for a more comfortable feel. Which makes this mouse worth the extra expense.

I run a mac and pc and have gotten tired of switching mice and keyboard between the two. First trackball I’ve owned, so takes getting used to.

Has improved my productivity many folds. The ball and ball socket needs cleaning after some time but not a big deal at all. Looking to order a second one, waiting for some deal :)

All the buttons are programmable with Logitechs software. The ability to set it at an angle is great. Liked it enough to buy a second one for work.

This update fixed all of the issues with better features & superior materials. Be sure & get the model 2 that has the extra base. If you like using a trackball, this is the one to get.

This mouse has it all, it’s sturdy, the track ball makes my life easier and I love that it has multiple positions for options. Would recommend a carrying case for it!
