I prefer trackball mice over other types. The best part is that this one is rechargeable with USB. This trackball has been reliable plug and play.

(Disclaimer - I was given this product in exchange for a fair and unbiased review.) Logitech is known for several things - speakers, keyboards, tablet accessories - but their pointing devices are generally among the very best in their classes, if not the best. Case in point - The Logitech Ergo MX Plus. It starts with an already ergonomic design and simply adds to it in a way that makes it comfortable to use. Setup is simple - plug the Unifying Receiver into any open USB port on your computer*, turn the trackball's power on, and you're in business. Do you already have other Logitech Unifying devices? Good news - you can use the Logitech Options software to pair the MX Ergo to your existing receiver. I did this on a Windows 10 machine I have with a K360 keyboard and M185 mouse, and it was quick and painless. To me, however, this is also a drawback - I would have liked to see Bluetooth connectivity with this trackball along with Unifying connectivity. (* - Standard USB ports, not the newer USB-C ports you find on newer laptops.) The Ergo also has a nifty hardware feature that allows you to pair the trackball with two different systems. So if you're like me and you have a living room PC along with your office PC, and you prefer trackballs over mice and trackpads, you can switch between both computers by pressing a button near the scroll wheel. As far as usability goes, it's terrific. You have a clickable scroll wheel that also tilts for left and right scrolling, you have a pair of assignable function buttons next to the left button that can do pretty much anything (I set them for forward and back), and if you're not going to change the accuracy setting of the trackball, you can reset it to other functions. Now for the ergonomics, which is the marketing draw of this device. This model ships with a magnetic baseplate that allows you to adjust the tilt of the trackball to either 0 or 20 degrees, along with a small wedge that can give you an additional 10 degrees of tilt for 30 degrees total. This system feels a little clunky on your first use, but it works well once you get used to it. Finally, the MX Ergo has a rechargeable battery built into it. You charge the battery with a micro USB charge cable. I find this to be a drawback; for the price, this device should use USB-C instead of the breakage-prone micro-USB connector. All in all, the Logitech MX Ergo Trackball is a pretty good value for what it is. It works well, it's all-day comfortable, and it's loaded with features that justify its price tag.

    Best Trackball Ever

I purchased my first Logitech trackball in 1998 and what a revelation it was. I never used a regular mouse at home again. I cannot imagine why more people don’t recognize that a trackball is superior to a mouse in a multitude of ways. Over the years I’ve feared that Logitech would potentially discontinue this product line. I for one applaud Logitech for their continued support and development of trackballs. I was very excited to upgrade to the Logitech’s MX Ergo Plus wireless trackball. What a fitting name since many of the benefits of a trackball are ergonomic with reduced arm and wrist movement. Let’s remember that with a trackball you use your thumb alone to move the cursor. The mouse comes nicely packaged and includes a 2.4ghz unifying receiver, a micro usb charging cable, and an additional plate to further customize your mouse increasing its adjustable angle up to 30 degrees. Setup was simple. Just plug the unifying receiver into a USB port and turn on the mouse and you’re up and running. I also downloaded and installed the Logitech Options software. Here you can customize mouse buttons and scrolling behavior to your desire. Very cool. This device is wireless and rechargeable so no unsightly cord to deal with and no batteries to replace and a charge lasts 4 months. The MX Ergo plus supports both 2.4ghz wireless and Bluetooth which allows you to connect it with many different devices. The trackball itself has a quality feel and weight to it which is certainly a more refined build than earlier Logitech trackballs. The look is sleek and modern. Upon actually using the MX Ergo Plus I must admit I didn’t really expect anything remarkably different from the trackball I was currently using. I was wrong. When I tried the device with the extra pad which allows you to elevate and tilt the trackball even more I immediately felt like I hit a sweet spot in terms of ergonomics and comfort. My wrist and hand were now turned to the side of the trackball which just felt far more natural. The Ergo Plus also filled my hand better since it is larger with the additional pad attached. I had left my old trackball connected when I installed the Ergo Plus. I now switched back to it to compare and I discovered that it already felt awkward and uncomfortable. I was sold! I then proceeded to put it to use. The trackball itself definitely glides more smoothly than my previous model. It also seems to have a higher dpi. I struggled to determine the actual dpi of the Ergo Plus. It is quoted in two locations on the Logitech website with different values in each location. Frustrating. I love it for browsing the internet since I had configured two of the buttons for forward and backward web page navigation. While scrolling I discovered a cool feature. Unlike my old trackball which scrolled then stopped abruptly the Ergo Plus continues gently scrolling even after you release your finger and then gradually slows and stops the scroll. I really like this. I also like the side scrolling feature which you access by tilting the scroll wheel. Another feature I was anxious to try was the precision mode. By clicking the button adjacent to the ball one can adjust the cursor movement to greatly slow it down for accuracy. This is a great addition which comes in handy for photo editing techniques that requires steady and accurate movement. There is another fascinating feature that I haven’t tried yet but want to. It’s called Logitech Flow which allows you to use the Ergo Plus with multiple computers at once. There is a button behind the scroll wheel which easily allows you to switch back and forth between two computers without re-pairing the Bluetooth connection. And I don’t just mean connect to several computers at once I mean copy text or a photo from one system and paste it to another system! Super cool. I love the MX Ergo Plus for gaming. I would love to see Logitech develop a gaming trackball! Being a fan of first person shooters I find a trackball gives me ultimate control and accuracy and the Ergo Plus is no exception. Many mouse users wrongly argue the opposite. I also find the Ergo Plus very comfortable to use for extended periods of gaming. If you have never tried a trackball you should. The Logitech MX Ergo Plus is the best trackball I’ve ever used. Highly recommended.

I'm finally somewhat fluid in using this device, but to my average sized hands the thumb position on the trackball is still somewhat awkward. My hand gets fatigued quicker than it ever did with many mice over many years. I'm going to keep using it for now but I don't think I'll ever buy another trackball.

I tried using this for a week and had connection problems since I first connected it. I tried through bluetooth and using the included Logitech dongle. I spoke with Logitech's customer service and they recommended taking it back and exchanging for another. I exchanged this twice with the same issue, On the third one, they admitted they know about the unreliable connection issue and recommended I get another model mouse. Do not buy.

A little over 2 years and this very expensive trackball is already starting to fail rapidly. It was very nice while it lasted, I apparently need to start looking at other brands or cheaper versions as it lasts about as long as Logitech's entry-level trackballs.

Hi Paul, Very sorry to hear about the issue you're having with the MX Ergo Plus Wireless Mouse failing rapidly. A couple of questions: 1) Have you cleaned the trackball and the sensor casing?; and more importantly, 2) Have you updated the firmware? For cleaning instructions, go to this link  https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025335733--FAQ-MX-Ergo-Wireless-Trackball. You'll find a lot of troubleshooting FAQs including one on how to "Clean the Logitech MX Ergo trackball". In regards to updating the firmware, you can do that by downloading Logitech's Options software (https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/articles/360025297893). Options lets you customize your MX Ergo by letting you customize buttons and adjusting the point and scroll behaviors. Hope that you found this helpful and that all is going well. Thank you for choosing Logitech. - Richard from Logitech

Hey! We apologize the MX Ergo trackball feels slow. A high-performance mouse like this shouldn't have sluggish cursor movement. Try adjusting DPI settings or cleaning the trackball. This is a rather high priced item that I purchased for my wife because her hand was hurting with her existing mouse. After using this for one day her hand hurt worse (you need to really have a large thumb for this to work well) so she stopped using it.

The first things that stood out for me are that the Ergo Plus weighs almost twice as much as the previous M570 (a good thing, as it feels more solid), and the whole unit can tilt 20 degrees for comfort. Rechargeable battery is also convenient. The Ergo Plus has a small button on the top that effortlessly lets me switch between controlling my laptop and controlling my desktop - nice feature. The other cool thing at the Ergo Plus is the ‘Precision Mode’ button on the side. Great for editing photos, or any other work that requires more precision than you would want your mouse set at for typical use - awesome feature! Overall, a great product if you like the trackball style.
