    Logitech MX ERGO Plus

Just received my new Logitech MX ERGO Plus wireless trackball mouse. And I must say first off its a big mouse; which for me is awesome because of my large sized hands. It has a nice solid design feel and is very comfortable in my hand. I've had this mouse for about 5 hours now and love it. It did however take me a bit to learn how to use it initially since I was used to moving the usual mouse about my desk to control the cursor. It came with about a 75% charge which allowed me to use it out of the box after downloading the companion software Logitech Options to my Mac. Inside the box is of course the nicely crafted MX ERGO mouse along with what I found out later to be wedged base that allows for more natural hand positioning. Took me a little bit to figure out exactly what the wedge was and what its function was. After downloading the software, and re-teaching myself, which didn't take that long that I didn't have to move the actually mouse around and instead use the nice easy-rolling trackball, it almost became second nature. It may however, be a bit of a learning curve for some people who have not used trackball mice before. All of the buttons were already preset to my liking in how I usually setup any mice that I use with my desktop/laptop. This mouse can be used with or without the wedge, and is built on a hinge that if shift/tilted to the right offers more control and hand positioning. I also love the fact that it is also FLOW compatible as I was able to utilize this function between my personal laptop as well as my work laptop, and the process was seamless without any hiccups.

Good Trackball, Interesting Improves on Ergonomics

The ERGO plus trackball on the surface looks like your basic trackball. It's got a few extra buttons and built-in rechargeable battery. The big stand out feature is the ability to adjust the trackball angle/position and customized stand that allows you to further raise it on your desk if necessary. All of these things are executed well and for that, as well as otherwise being a decent trackball, it gets four stars from me. Let's start with the big selling point, the adjustable hinge. This is implemented as a magnetic base that makes and maintains solid contact with the bottom of the trackball. The surface is beveled so leaned one way, you get the normal trackball flat on the table surface, go another, and you get the trackball at an angle. I actually found myself using the trackball mostly at an angle - it was just more comfortable than the normal position. That one could improve upon this is not something I would have realized. You essentially only get the one other position from standard - may be good enough for most. Being a Logitech wireless device, it makes use of their unifying receiver. However, the great news is that it also supports Bluetooth, in case you lose your receiver or just prefer something a bit less proprietary. The trackball works well, scrolls smoothly. There's a button slightly above the trackball that allows you to reduce the trackball speed when you need to perform some navigation or movement in a really small area or with higher precision. I could see this being of use to graphic designer types. The mouse also has dedicated forward and back buttons, which are nice if you're used to it, though placement on a trackball device is tricky. The buttons end up under your index finger and if your fingers are short enough, you can make use of them with almost no effort. But with larger hands, they ended up being harder to reach which reduces their utility versus the thumb mounted buttons typical on more featured optical mice. For those who swear by a trackball but find themselves with some arm strain, the Ergo Plus could be a good contender to replace your current pointing tool.

A nicely updated trackball offering from Logi

The MX ERGO Plus is a good follow up offering to the long running M570. Overall the build quality is typical Logi. The unit has a nicely balanced weight, smart ergonomics and good quality in the feel of the materials used. Pairing the unit with my computer was quick and painless and comes with everything you need to get this done quickly. With the on-board rechargeable battery, it's nice to be able to simply plug the unit in via the provided USB cable and continue to use when the battery is running low. Since this is the exclusive to Best Buy "Plus" configuration - you get an additional magnetically coupled base plate that introduces a higher stand-off position to the primary base on the computer desk surface or keyboard shelf. Personally, I found that this additional wedge lifted the unit too high making for a less than comfortable orientation. It also adds to the tipping angle when you rock the unit over to the side. This may actually be favorable to folks with large hands but I found both the height & angle offsets were too extreme and much prefer the MX ERGO Plus without the extra platform and in the titled orientation. I can not comment on the specified battery life due to time limitations of this review submission but I believe that the MX ERGO Plus should last a good 3 to 4 months between full charges for at least the first year or two of ownership. The action of the buttons and the scroll wheel are positive - with no slop. The ability to pair the unit with two different machines and to switch between them with the touch of a button is a nice bonus feature. Overall, I think the MX ERGO Plus is solid update choice for anyone that prefers a trackball to a mouse and that want some flexibility with respect to features and ergonomics. My only real gripe with this offering is the steep price. I can safely recommend this product to anyone looking for a quality trackball solution as long as they can get it on sale and save some money.

Great mouse that takes a little getting used to

This is my first time ever using a trackball mouse. Upon taking it out of the package, I was surprised at how big it was considering I have been using a tiny little mouse until now. The mouse feels very good in the hand, and there is a plate that attaches to the bottom that allows you to set the mouse on an angle for maximum comfort of the user. I really like the ability to custom fit the mouse to your hand. I was able to plug the little receiver into the USB port and start using the mouse right away. Another feature I like is that is is rechargeable. After it's initial charge, I have not had to recharge it once. The battery really does last a very long time. I was very surprised at how tricky it was to use at first. After moving a mouse around with my hand my whole life, going to a trackball is a little difficult at first. You really do have to retrain your brain to match the cursor movement to the trackball. I was surprised at how long it took me to get used to it, but once I did, using it has been a breeze. This is not the fault of the product, rather the user, and I cannot fault the product. There are several programmable buttons which I do not use because I have no need. I am sure an engineer or a cad designer would absolutely find them useful. All in all, I love this mouse and am officially a trackball user from now on.

Logitech removed quite a bit of functionality to make this mouse. For me, it is the Cruise function that was removed. Without that function this is useless. Looking online there are quite a few functions that were available in previous Logitech mice that are gone. Hey, Logitech we don't need the functionality to focus left or focus right, but we do need things like Cruise.

Pros: -I have used Logitech ball mice my entire life. I prefer them to my G series mice and my Razer Mamba. -This mouse is a wonderful successor. Having a built in battery is fantastic. -The weight is amazing. Doesn't slide around at all. It grips well on my table or my mouse pad. -Base plate is magnetic and doesn't go to the different heights without some force. So it won't snap into other positions -Get this version the extra 20 degrees are totally worth it because the side of your hand rests on the table. -Buttons aren't mushy. Which is my main problem with my old M570. -Speaking of this is a great successor to the m570. I was cautious but it is really better. Didn't know if it was worth but build quality seems worth the price for now. -Excellent for Mobas, okay for whipping FPS, absolutely gorgeous for 3D modeling on Maya and Unreal. The ability to smoothly control the viewing camera is totally worth. -I have a three screen display that this mouse can maneuver with ease without adjusting sensitivity. -Bluetooth! -Can go between two computers. I can have it on my laptop and desktop on a fourth screen. Cons: -Buttton layout isn't quite perfect a couple degrees off. -Bluetooth has a bit of latency. The retailer said 1 ms but it feels like more. Other Thoughts: -No logitech G series yet. If they released one with the option to go wireless and wired Logitech Proteus style. -Please give me G RGB style. The ball mouse community would love a G series. I paid $110 for this the day it came out. A lot of gamers find it intuitive to use ball mice.

Logitech, sadly, has gone downhill. There were no instructions with it and I had to contact the company to figure out what the buttons did. Not a great way to start. For its hefty $100 price, I expected better. I wound up returning it the next day and got a Microsoft mouse instead.

    Comfortable Trackball, Bluetooth Connectivity

The Wireless Logitech MX Ergo Trackball Mouse works pretty much like you expect it to if you've used a trackball before, very comfortable design. While I initially set it up with its own receiver, I quickly realized it supported Bluetooth which my laptop has built-in so I decided not to take up an extra USB port. It has a convenient 'precision' button on the side, for when you need the pointer to move a little slower (detail), otherwise it moves quick enough that it feels very natural to use as a primary pointer. My notebook's touchpad often has issues (usually requiring me to put the notebook to sleep and wake it up to fix) and it's quite possible using the Logitech will also be a work-around for that. Unlike a traditional mouse, it works well in areas where you can't move around as much (like on the arm of a sofa/recliner). Having the scroll wheel is also a nice convenience when reading multi-screen documents and web pages. I'm interested in learning more about the 'flow' feature, but I'm not inclined to set it up until I understand it better and know I won't accidentally be clicking on the wrong screen.

Great Mouse Replacement - Thoughtfully Designed

This is a terrific way to replace a mouse. It takes much less space on the desk, and it is very thoughtfully designed. Key features include both USB and bluetooth connectivity, switching of connection between two different computers with a single button, and two programmable buttons. The tilt feature, plus an included optional stand for raising the level higher above a desk, gives many options for finding a comfortable configuration. At first, I found the thumb placement of the roller a bit awkward, as my prior trackball was a Kensington Pro with it's huge ball for finger-rolling. But when I attached the stand and tilted the MX Ergo Plus up, the hand position became perfect for me, and the ease of use became fantastic. Like it's name suggests, it is a very ergonomically designed pointing device. This is definitely the best trackball on the market for most people, and I highly recommend it! I love the desktop real-estate that I've been able to reclaim, and it is physically easier on the wrist/arm/shoulder than using a mouse. Highly recommended!

Ergonomically better than the M570 trackball

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I purchased an MX Ergo Plus Trackball (only available from Best Buy or Logitech) directly from the manufacturer on New Year’s Day 2018. Note that the ONLY difference between the standard and plus versions of the MX Ergo is an additional magnetic rubber wedge which is included with the plus model. It attaches to the bottom of the trackball to provide an additional 10 degrees of inclination from level. Thus, the maximum inclination from a completely flat resting on desktop position is 30 degrees for the MX ERGO Plus (magnetic hinge plus additional wedge), but only 20 degrees for the standard MX ERGO (magnetic hinge only). There are absolutely no technical differences between the two trackballs and pricing is also essentially identical. So why wouldn’t a smart consumer always prefer the model with an extra “goodie” included for free? I really don’t understand why these two different versions exist. I would simply include the additional insert with every MX ERGO and settle on a single name for this device. Two models with such a minor difference are completely unnecessary! Regarding the trackball itself, the MX Ergo is much more substantial – both larger in size and significantly heavier – than the Logitech M570 trackball that I purchased back in 2011 and have been using religiously every day since then to completely eliminate the carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms that I had been starting to develop with a regular mouse. Both the larger dimensions and the increased heft ensure that this trackball will stay put wherever you place it; the lighter M570 always had a tendency to move around somewhat during use. The MX Ergo also has a more textured, grippy feel during use compared to the much smoother M570. However, apart from the consistent monotone charcoal gray appearance of the MX Ergo throughout (no longer a contrasting blue trackball as in the M570) and the use of an internal rechargeable battery (supposedly lasting up to 4 months on a full charge) instead of the familiar disposable AAs, the most important feature is the angular inclination capability already mentioned above. If you primarily work in a position in which you forearm rests completely flat on a tabletop or other surface, then this feature will not be of much interest to you: use the MX Ergo just like the M570 and let it rest completely flat on your work surface. However, if you spend a significant amount of time standing while you work – with only your hand and wrist being supported by a surface such as a keyboard tray – then inclining the MX Ergo 20 to 30 degrees upwards from level will make for a much more comfortable work experience over time. I have been exclusively using a standing desk since 2013 (Ergotron 24-280-085 WorkFit-PD, Sit-Stand Desk). I stand every day, all day long, rarely sitting at all and the MX Ergo with the additional wedge in place at a full 30 degrees of inclination is just the thing to ensure optimal ergonomic positioning of the hand and wrist with easy thumb-access to the trackball itself. Absolutely no carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms to worry about here! I won’t discuss any of the technical specifications/features of the trackball itself since these can be readily found on Amazon.com and the Logitech support site on the web. You will in fact have to consult the Logitech website when you first receive your MX Ergo since no instructions whatsoever are included in the retail packaging shipped to the consumer. All of the essential quick start information is available only online from where you will also need to download the Logitech Options software to get everything up and running properly. Overall, this is a highly recommended purchase. My right hand and wrist are thanking me already, perhaps yours will too?

I bought this because my old Logitech trackball scroll wheel isn't working properly. I have an old M570 and decided to upgrade. Sadly, this one doesn't work for me. It is supposed to be able to be used flat or at an angle but neither works for me. Both have my wrist too high in the air and cause wrist pain within a minute. I'm returning this one. It's sad because I love my trackball but the things designed to be ergonomic are not ergonomic for me.
