Another winner from a solid brand
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Lorex is one of the best brands in consumer security cameras. Their cameras and DVR/NVR systems are consistently reliable with a solid app to back them up. This system does not disappoint and will satisfy anyone, with the added ability to add 4 additional channels of your choice (more on that later). Quick note on wired vs wireless: Wired is always better than wireless, there is no exception to this. If you absolutely cannot do the install yourself or hire someone to do it, that is the only reason to go with wireless. Wired systems (like this one) provide reliability, highest quality video, ease of upgrading/"futureproofing", and the most affordable long term investment. There is no benefit to buying a wireless set to stay in the same ecosystem of smart devices. Install: There are 100 foot Ethernet cables included. Although I am fairly surprised they included decent quality in wall rated cables, I prefer to buy my go-to brand of Cat 6 Ethernet cables which ensure long term compatibility with any system and reliability. If this is your first time doing this kind of install/running wires, make sure you understand all safety precautions to consider. The mount of cameras themselves are good quality and should hold up for a long time BUT it is really best to give them some protection and cover under awnings/joists/rafters/etc. Always consider local weather factors such as extreme heat, excessive wind, hurricanes, etc. Double protect the Ethernet connection to the camera with high quality electrical tape or similar. Setup: Very easy and quick once you have everything connected and powered up. Takes about 15-20 minutes to get the system going and app running. I've never had any issues with the Lorex app in the past and with the new system it seems to be the same. App/Software: As mentioned above, I've never experienced any issues with the App. It's not the best app since it is very limited to what you can do. Mostly, you'll need to plug a monitor/TV into the NVR and use the mouse to navigate the more detailed settings and interface built in. Not exactly convenient, especially since this can severely impact how you run your wires. However, you can always pick up a super cheap monitor or inexpensive 50+ food HDMI cable to solve this problem (wireless mouse required). So I do think this is the weakest point of the system but it's important to remember you generally don't need to access the settings regularly. Recording/Playback: A 2TB NVR should keep at least 7 days of footage before looping back. You can plug in external storage to increase capacity or export a clip for evidence or what not. Unfortunately, the best playback is done on the NVR itself compared to the app. If you foresee having to review recorded footage often, you may want to take this into account. Video quality: Excellent for a good home system. Unfortunately, the higher you mount these cameras, the more diminishing returns you'll have on picking up details. If you're trying to ID a license plate from >70feet away, it's probably going to be difficult but not impossible without good lighting. Many factors effect the quality of details but you will have a very good picture of what you're recording. For night time, it's nothing special. The night vision system is pretty much run of the mill and without really good lighting you're not going to pick up details at night. Even with good lighting you're not going to pick up license plates even at 30 feet most likely. Two way talk: Works well and a great feature built in. At least this can supplement the night time video quality and help scare away potential criminals. Overall: I recommend this system. It has all the bells and whistles of a 4K NVR system and performs as expected. If you're going to rely heavily on the app, you may need to look elsewhere. This system, just like most other systems, rely heavily on accessing the NVR directly for full playback capabilities and settings adjustment.

4k home security system
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As we moved into a new construction home, we were in the market for a home security system. We compared prices and features for the typical big companies, home cams like Arlo etc, and then dedicated security surveillance systems like the Lorex. There are fundamental differences (pros/cons) between each system, but mainly, the monitored services you pay a monthly fee and someone is checking your system. That seems to me the most secure/safe option, if you want the highest level of home security. The other systems typically rely on sending notifications to your devices, so theoretically, if you're asleep at night and have your phone silenced, you may not notice your camera sending you an urgent notification about movement. That being said, I ultimately decided to opt for a system that's not professionally monitored. The Lorex has 4k image quality, and daylight image quality is impressive. Night samples are above average compared to the other camera systems I compared them to. I can't speak to the ease or difficulty of installation, as we hired someone to do it, but reading up, it doesn't seem prohibitively difficult if you were really trying to save some money. 2TB stoarge is included, and I set it to continuously record. So after 2TB is used up, it'll loop and record over the data. You can add an additional storage unit, but I haven't done so yet. The system does seem to be a bit sensitive, so they're erring on the side of being more secure, however, it means you get quite a few false alarms on your notifications. Hopefully with a software update, they can adjust their algorithms. Overall, as long as you understand the inherent limitations of an NVR system, i.e. nobody's going to be automatically calling emergency services for you if it detects suspicious activity - then this system is fantastic and solidly built.

When I called geek squad I was told no one in my area can install. I had someone who said they would come to see if they can but he’s put me off several weeks.

Magnificent UHD Surveillance System
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Lorex - 8-Channel, 4-Camera Indoor/Outdoor Wired 4K UHD 2TB NVR Surveillance System is an outstanding and comprehensive security solution for your home/office/business. The system is easy to setup. It may take some time to decide on camera placement depending on your specific application, but once the cameras are mounted, the system is pretty much plug and play. One of my favorite features of the Lorax surveillance system is that it includes a 2 terabyte drive, providing you with plenty of space to store several days (about 3 days) of video at 4K resolution. Lower resolution will yield longer retention periods. You can also backup the data if you decide to keep video beyond the capacity of the internal storage drive. The cameras provide exceptional crisp and clear 4K video with a digital zoom function that works extremely well In light and dark environments. The lenses provide a wide field of vision that can cover an entire yard/lot/entrance way. Giving you confidence that the area is secure and safe. Another nice feature is the motion detection which can be configured to send notifications to your mobile device to alert you of potential threats in an area. It works pretty good. I don’t get triggered alerts for things like leaves or small animals (squirrels/birds), but when someone approaches the house, I am notified, even when I can’t see them. It’s great for being alerted when someone needs to drop a package at your home/office when you are away. I highly recommend the Lorex 8 - Channel, 4-Camera Indoor/Outdoor Wired 4K UHD 2TB NVR Surveillance System. It’s a fantastic option for protecting your home/office.

No instructions (written) left with me
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There are no instructions but a few verbals by installer. It is basically useless until I am able to hire someone from Best Buy to come to my home to instruct me. The installers were great and helpful.

Great monitoring system!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good quality! Setup: setup was very simple and easy. It was far easier than expected, it is really a plug and play unit. Didn’t have to struggle with settings, thanks to the user guide, it was very user intuitive. I was surprised to see that the cameras came with long enough cables so I can setup cameras for my 2000 sqft home quite easily. Quality / ease of use: I was amazed by the quality of the video - 4K quality was honestly mind blowing. Even the night mode on the camera is just amazing! I love the mobile app and it so quite easy to use and gives appropriate notifications, talk back, monitoring zones and alarm. The color night vision feature really enhances the quality of the picture even during low light. 2TB storage is just good enough to get started with the monitoring recordings. The biggest advantage of this camera is there si no subscription fees. Also the expandability of the camera is good. Overall, a solid monitoring system. More value for the money. I would definitely recommend this to my friends.
