Great picture but had video loss issues
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had repeated video loss and What honestly really killed me keeping this item was the 15 day return policy. If it was 30 day I would of kept trying to figure out the issue and would of kept if I could resolve it. The good: 4K picture was sharp, great detail in images. Lots of clarity. Multiple motion sensitivity zones per camera. You can have 24 / hr recording and motion detect notifications so you can review anything any time but only get notified. (Incase maybe you think something happened between notifications.) The bad: Mainly I kept losing video feed. This may of been an issue with me some how it’s not widely reported. But what good is a camera that doesn’t work. Poor instructions come in the box. The manual online is very detailed and expansive but hard to navigate. There is a learning curve with setting it up beyond the basic Out of the box settings. I didn’t find the system to be really intuitive. Built in light : I’m not sure it’s rating in Lumens but I’d have to guess it’s like 10. It’s not very bright at all. If you use it might as well set it to flash as it’s only purpose is to make someone look at the camera. It doesn’t light up anything. Definitely not enough to see any better at night if you’re hoping to use it as a motion activated spot light. Color Night Vision : I have flood lights over my garage and the camera was adjacent. They’re pretty bright but unless I really tweaked the color settings on the camera it stayed in black and white. Clearly it needs not just a little ambient lighting. It needs a fair amount. It seemed that a partially cloud day would trigger the motion sensor as clouds went over. Might be needing sensitivity adjustment. Did the same when I had inside and room would get lighter and darker. The other notes from my experience : I did as the instructions suggested. I hooked everything up in my dining room and actually let it run for a day and a half made sure all camera and cables worked. It was good. I set up the first camera. Set it for 24/7 recording with motion notifications. Crawled thru my attic etc. ran the cable seemed ok, walked around got notifications and seemed fine. Then I noticed the next day I didn’t have a notification when i pulled the car out of the driveway. I looked further into it and there was a video loss for a period of time. I had a couple. I check settings to make sure I had it set to 24/7 recording. 2TB HD might as well use it. So We ordered a pizza, I had the unit connected to a monitor right next to my computer and I figured hey I’ll see the pizza guy pull up and then go answer the door. About 5 mins later the screen went black and said Lorex and I realized no camera feed. I checked the power cables next to me restarted the system camera came back on. 10 mins later feed loss again. Do some research - I even un mounted the camera made sure connections were good - still kept having this issue. One of the suggestions was a bad HD or bad power. Check the cables connection etc, try different power plug. Did those. The HD suggested opening it up and disconnecting HD - but a 13 day old unit shouldn’t be needing this plus I wasn’t going to open it up - sounds like a great way to void return / warranty. So instead I left it go another day see it it still happened after I checked the cable in the attic and tried different power source and it still happened. So that was day 14 I was out of time to trouble shoot it was keep it or return it - so I took it back the next day. Had they worked properly I’d be posting a much more favorable review.

Innovative Camera Security System
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Being my first surveillance system, I wasn't sure how hard it would be to set one up. I am a technical person and while I have never completed a wiring run or run wires through walls, I can say this is the hardest part about the setup. Once you get through this step, the rest of the setup is easy. I have done much research and through my research, I have always found experts and in general, people who own a camera system, say it is better to have a wired system vs wireless. While I will not talk about all the benefits, a few are not worrying about batteries, wireless security, and it affecting your network performance. After running the cables to the Lorex DVR, their setup was very easy and simple. Although a few of their menus to navigate around the different settings looks complicated (they have lots of features), they take you step by step to configure your cameras the way you would like. Out of all the features my favorites are being able to select which areas of the camera you would like for the camera to ignore motion and for the cameras to actually be a deterrent system. For example, if you setup a camera for your front door to record when there is motion, you can set it to ignore any motion from cars passing by (a very nice addition). Using that same example, you can also setup that at certain times of day when it detects motion to sound a siren or give a warning message. This is great! In each camera the kit comes with has a small speaker that is able to do this. Being a 4k surveillance system the picture is fantastic. The cameras are rated for 30 feet of night vision and I can certainly say they can reach that while still having clear picture. After 30 feet, it starts to get grainy but depending on how you setup your cameras another camera can compensate for that area. Overall, I can definitely recommend this system to anyone looking to setup a surveillance system for the first time or if you already have one. Setup is easy, picture is great, and can even deter a thief with a siren if it ever comes to it!

"Loading" right out of the box
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My situation: I had an outdated night owl system that used BNC, so I bought this Lorex set so I can just use the existing BNCs and just swap out the cameras and DVR. The first 3 cameras were installed: the first one worked great, so I went onto the second one--also worked great; then went onto the third. Then I came back to check out the images. The first camera feed now flashes "loading/Lorex" back and forth. Then the second camera started doing it. Only the 3rd camera stayed on/functioned properly. So basically 2/8 cams were defective, possibly more; I'm not going to waste time installing the rest. The thing is, the first two cams worked initially, then seemed to have stopped after several minutes. I Googled the issues, found Lorex instructions to try and swap out ports around (good for bad, vice versa), did that and the bad camera still displays "loading." Tried swapping power supplies, even using the new included power adapters, still no cigar. Firmware says Up to Date. Did a factory reset, no cigar. So at this point, I think the cameras were defective, after troubleshooting according to Lorex instructions. Unless a miracle happens after this review, I will be returning it for another brand (maybe Swann). Thus far: The good: great pictures, even night time. The bad: defective cameras; loud DVR fan (I can't comment on the rest: I haven't even gotten to the phone app, or check out the recording, IR detection, motion, etc.).

Just Great Picture Clarity
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The picture quality is just amazing. The 4K image clarity is extremely clear. I can read a license plate from 40 plus feet away from the camera. I can also zoom in for high resolution images. I have the deterrent light turned on to strobe when motion is detected at my Front Door. Set up is not difficult, the only thing necessary is patience with running and hiding the BNC cables. It took me probably 1 hour to set up, run wire and mount each camera. (Around 8 hours total) The hardest part was getting the wires from inside to outside. I went to Lowes and bought a 3/4 inch masonry drill bit, since I have a brick house and drilled a hole from outside in, then used a clothes hanger and attached the BNC cable to the hanger with duct tape and snaked it through the hole. The only thing I do not like is the Active Deterrent Alarm. It's not loud enough to warrant using. The Strobe light Deterrent is great, especially in the dark. I am truly satisfied with my purchase which was around $800.00. I was going to buy a much cheaper camera system from Sam's Club that was only HD image quality, not 4K quality. I did not buy it mainly because only 1 person could watch the playback remotely and with this 4K system, 3 user's can watch the playback remotely at the same time.

Quality hardware
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Cameras are of great quality. Hook up is straightforward. The software could be better. When trying to view the recorded video from the day navigating thru the 24 hours of the day is not as is expected. Instead of sliding thru the hours you have to zoom out and then back in and really can’t control where it zooms back in. Other than that the software is easy enough to operate. Do not power the box on unless you have it hooked up all the way. I powered the box up and because it wasn’t hooked up to my tv it automatically set up for higher resolution than what the tv was that I am using to monitor it. You can’t change the resolution without having access to a tv with that resolution. I had to borrow a tv to plug into it and change the resolution on the DVR. That was a pain. Now I’m set up and enjoying them. Seen a high schooler kick over my trash can yesterday. He didn’t know he was on camera.

Non biased/ non paid customer review!!!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a non-paid, unbiased review of this home security camera system and installation from Geek Squad. I purchased this system after researching home security systems for a few months as I wanted a non headache system which could be used for local and when traveling away from home. Pros: 1. Thorough and professional installation by Geek Squad guys in Copperfield TX (Houston) 2. They set the wired system as requested and as intended to use, 3. Within a few hours, I had a fully functional home surveillance system which was hooked onto my TV and also available for streaming live on Lorex App. 4. Lorex App is free to use with no monthly subscription fee. 5. Great resolution, video recording/ streaming is in color when there is daylight. 6. Great resolution and video recording & streaming is in high quality black & white when there is no additional lighting ( night time). 7. Geek Squad guys did a superb job in setting up the system and making whole system functional. 8. I wanted a wired system as I specifically didn't want to use wifi and pay for high speed internet. Plus if your internet is down, your home security is down. With a wired system this scenario is not possible. 9. Cameras can be zoomed in and out on the Lorex App and also on TV ( if system is connected to a TV). 10. Response time is almost ZERO and system speeds are amazingly fast with a wired system like this Lorex system. 11. It has 2 way speaker system, 12. It has alarm system, which you can set to trigger off audio alarm if it senses motion. 13. Settings can be customized to increase/ decrease camera motion sensors in specific areas. 14. A continuous red infra red light is a strong reminder to any disturbing elements that they are on video surveillance 15. Cameras can detect and record clear images upto 70 feet ( in my driveway). Cons : 1. Costly to purchase, 2. Costly to install. Overall Opinion : If home security and safety is your priority, this systemmerts and exceeds all your requirements. Lorex App is free to install and free to stream live feed from anywhere in the world, so you can watch your home and any movements anytime and anywhere.

Excellent camera system!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have set up several different camera systems for friends and coworkers so I know a thing or two about different brands and systems. I decided it was time to get one since I had purchased a house and I made the right decision. This one is the best of the best. Right out of the box it was an ease. Set up was super simple, comes with a sticker template to make it easier to drill the holes. The image quality is very impressive and has amazing night vision.

Great cameras
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Upgraded our old cameras to these and...wow!!! The picture quality is excellent. You can zoom in and it still a pretty good picture, clear enough to read a license plate. Great night vision too. Just do know how to get the lights on the cameras to work and wish it had sound. But over all very happy!

Cameras are great but programming is.. interesting
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Camera Quality and ease of install is great! The camera mounting brackets are the same spaced out holes as my Swann Security Cameras that we are replacing. I like the ease of use on the app. But there is NO DESKTOP APP. So if you want to change any of the advanced settings remotely, good luck. You can only do it from the hard drive in your home. The lights on the cameras are great, they definitely attract attention as intended. The siren though, could be a little louder. I live in a quiet neighborhood so you CAN hear them, but if you lived anywhere next to a main street it would be very difficult to hear.

Great cameras and easy to setup
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Setup was easy to follow instructions. Cameras came with long 100 ft cables which made it easy to place through attic. Video is crystal clear and zoom is awesome. Price was reasonable if not cheaper than other systems. I get alerts direct to my phone when there is something on camera after I set it up for zoning for motion. Works great and have not had a problem.

Great camera for basic home use
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was my first purchase for a home security camera and I am not disappointed at all. It was a great vale for the price. Great quality image and easy to install. My only complaint was that they should provide longer cables for installation.

Great system
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought to replace an old 0.3 (960h) megapixel system. I am very happy with the clarity, can finally read license plates and see detailed facial features. These cameras have a slightly wider viewing angle which i like. The recording of 7 frames per second have not been an issue either and to get the higher framerate doubles the price. I was able to use existing wiring from previous cameras. My only complaint is when motion is detected it sends a low grade pic via email and only one pic. My old system sent 3 pics 2 seconds apart. But unsure what other brands do, so I stayed with the Lorex. Also the whole vehicle/person motion setting somewhat works but certain flying insects with still set off the email alarm (if you have it turned on, to save HD space one could have motion set on and email off). Night time viewing is incredible. With the outside light, that camera stays in color mode. The cameras not by a light source can easily see 100 feet. Very impressed with night and daytime video quality. So happy I spent a little more and purchased the 8mp. I installed 1080p at the parents and while very nice, this 8mp has a lot more detail. The 2tb hd or larger is a must have IMO. With 8 cameras recording i get one week before hd overwrites existing data. I could save some space by having some cameras record only on motion. I highly recommend this Lorex system.

Good Security Camera for the price
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good security cameras. They can be connected to Smart TV. Our TV is 70 inches and it showed perfect video playback or real-time. Good night visual with no light. Easy app to watch on your phone with notifications if any activity happens. I will definitely buy more to extend the other side of my property.

Good camera for peace of mind.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Purchased this camera system as a Christmas gift. The initial hookup is very easy. We did have to buy extra 4k wire because what came with wasn't long enough. I wish additional wire could be bought at 25ft length cause that's all we needed. They only sell 100ft of the 4k wire. The camera picture is pretty good. I am still having issues viewing it from my phone. My BFs phone works but when we try to add me as an additional user it does not work. I'll need to contact lorex. I'd recommend hooking the cameras up where you have or can place spotlights on your house because the picture is way better having a light there then without.
