Very dissapointed
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I purchase this system I was assured that I would be able to run the system at 30 Frames per second. It failed to do so. I also left a black rectangle in the image of one of the cameras. This product fail to deliver on what I proclaimed to be able to do.

Great cameras with ample storage
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Lorex 8 channel security set up is a nice feature to have for anyone looking to provided some added security to their home or business without having to get locked down to hefty equipment and yearly contracts. The 2 TB of storage and 4k quality with built in camera lights is a good feature to have as it acts as a added deterrent to would be criminals. The question really comes down to is that is this really worth the buy in a market that is flooded with 4k wireless set ups that are able to go almost a solid month on a single charge. Hopefully this will help to answer and questions that may be lingering. First off out of the box your going to receive pretty much everything necessary to complete the install. Your going to get the main DVR hard drive, 4 cameras, and all cables necessary for set up. My only gripe on first glance was the length of the power cord was too short limiting my options for placement. Set up is going to require some skill and time but don't let that put you off. If you can set up home audio speakers then you can set this unit up. For me set up took about 3 hours but that's due to the fact that i don't like exposed cables so therefore i ended up running all my cables through my attic space. You are provided 60' of cable length which sounds sufficient however i had to actually end up buying the 100' length as this was not sufficient enough for my 3000 sq ft house. Once install is complete you can then go ahead and proceed to download the app, which will give you live notifications and give you access to features such as live view, recording, two way mic and other such features. The alarm can be activated or deactivated as well through the app. There are quite a bit of features you can do with this set up but for the most part most of them are standard for most security systems so i don't want to drag out too much what they are. Some features you can expect to see is the ability to set the alarm for stay or away modes based on motion sense. The alarm can be set to trigger the lights to strobe, stay on or do nothing at all. The cameras lights are a great deterrent as they can be tripped by motion however don't expect them to light up a whole yard or your house as they are not that bright. Video quality is awesome and this is where this unit really shines. Out of all my cameras i own these are the best and most gorgeous looking footage i have ever seen. Even night vision was remarkably well light. The audio is very clear allowing for crisp two way audio. Here's my take away from this system. I own quite a bit of security cameras and even have a security plan through ADT. At the end of the day these security cameras are pretty standard in the way most other security systems are set up. What i mean by this is your going to have to the option to arm the system based on motion for away settings. Your going to get push notifications via the app based on any zones that my triggered. And you get 2TB of video storage which will provided for about a little over a month of storage. The video quality is what really sets it apart in my mind. The video quality of these cameras is crystal clear with no drop outs with saved footage. As a matter of fact these cameras are way better than my paid ADT cameras which is kinda sad seeing as how i pay a monthly fee. The biggest draw back that stood out to me was that i felt the set up was a little dated. I get the whole feature behind hard wiring your cameras in. It provides smooth, uninterrupted footage which is exactly what you want. However there are many other competitors out there that are able to offer the same quality with quicker set up and no wires. Don't get me wrong this is a phenomenal security set up but keep in mind that time and some knowledge will be needed and once cameras are placed picking them up and moving them won't be quite as simple. However if you are ok with that and are looking for good picture and audio quality with ample storage space then pick this unit up as you are going to be happy with the reliability this has to offer without the monthly or annual contracts.

Great video
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This system comes with a 2TB DVR, four 4k cameras and all the cables and mounting kits you will need to get this up and running. I found the install to be easy. Now this will very house to house. If you can walk around in your attic it makes running the wires and hiding them a lot easier. I would plan on an hour to 3 hours depending on your house setup. Running the wires is the biggest part of this install. My DVR unit is in a closet of a bedroom in the center of the house. It's on the top shelf and I ran all the camera wires up though a hole in the ceiling to the attic and then drilled holes in the soffit on the exterior of the house where I wanted to mount them. The setup of the DVR went fast and easy with step by step on-screen instruction. You will need a monitor or TV to connect the DVR to. After you have your cameras installed where you want them and the DVR setup you will be pleased with the 4k video. Very clear video and play back. You can identify people, pets and cars easily day or night. Also has an app you can download to your smartphone and access the system. With this you can get push notifications for events. Like if there is movement at your front door if you have a camera there. You can also setup motion zones. So if your camera at the front door can also see the street your can block out that zone not to send you notifications every time a car passes but just when some one walks up to your door. Play back of the video is easy to navigate. I record continuously vs only when motion. But when looking over your past recording you can see when motion was detected and jump to that point in time. All in all this is a good system that you can add up to hour additional cameras too.

Great video, manual deterrence, "easy" set-up
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off, the set up is just plug-n-play, straight forward from the digital sense. The app is very interactive, the motion sensors from the cameras give a notification every time there is motion, but will not sound the alarm. You have to do it manually, which I feel defeats the purpose of having an alarm if you have to set it off yourself. Secondly, from a physical standpoint, the set up is dependant on your house and where you plan on putting them. I had to buy longer wires to accommodate the distance between opposite sides of my house. Outside of that, there were many obstacles that dealt with mounting the wires throughout my attic and garage. Definitely not a one-man job. So to call it an 'easy' set up is subjective. Lastly, I'm overall impressed by the quality of the video and durability of the cameras themselves. The user interface could have been better. I would have liked a remote instead of a wired mouse to interact. I am happy I invested in a security system such as this.

Fantastic video quality, tricky operation.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had this for about a week, but weather prohibited hooking it up until last Sunday. Now that it’s been up and going for a few days, I can share some thoughts. First off, yes, I’m totally paranoid. I had an Arlo system watching my front and back doors for two years, but I was worried about my car and was upset with the limited recordings of the Arlo unless you paid money. This system has great coverage, and the video feed is crystal clear. Night vision is pretty clean too. Supposedly has color nightvision but for some reason I only get the typical green scale. Motion capture works well, although someone or something can be halfway across the yard before it notifies you. It did video a skunk in my garden at 3am. Downside is setting it all up. Arlo was basically plug and play. Lorex has a lengthy walk through and their app isn’t as consumer friendly as I’d like. If you used a professional security camera, this will be easy, but for first-timers the settings can be a tad overwhelming. The dvr is a huge improvement over past units. It doesn’t look like a recorder. It looks like a surge protector/backup box or a cable box. It’ll take criminals a few minutes to figure out. Wish it was smaller, then it would easily hide among streaming boxes. Took my wife and I around 4 hours to install total, but well worth it for the peace of mind that comes with knowing who in my neighborhood is skulking around my house.

Do research. Much better ones out there
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was told these cameras were 2 way voice and they are not. I can't hear anything and speak. I'm not impressed with these and have seen so many better cameras. I paid so much money to have these installed to not have what I needed and wanted. I can only log in through the app and not computer.

Good System - Could Use Longer Cables
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I upgraded to this system from an ARLO system. I wanted better video recording options. This definitely has the ARLO beat for video recording and clarity of picture. I like that is is wired. although that also brings me to why I only gave 4 stars. The system comes with cables only 60ft in length. I am trying to run these to the outside of my house and I have to get the cables back to the middle of our home where the living area is. I needed longer cables to get to the outside corners of my home. I like the app that you can download to your Android or iOS device. I like being able to check on the home while away. The picture quality is great. I do wish these were PoE cameras where audio and video were passed through one cable. But so far I am happy with the system.

Horrible system and ignorant tech support
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely the biggest piece of junk I’ve ever purchased! Night vision was non existent. Tech support read from manuals. No help at all. The system came with severely outdated firmware. Never was able to get it working after dark. PIECE OF JUNK! Loren needs to really look at their tech needs and train someone to do more than say “I’m sorry sir, wait just a minute”.

Good Cameras, Good Features, but Rough Software
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I installed this camera system the day before leaving on vacation so that I could monitor my house while out of state, and with features like the camera light and siren, this would allow me to stay on the front line of protecting my home even from across the country. Install was pretty simple. This kit has the analog connections (one cable for video, and a second for power), not the newer PoE technology offered in other Lorex products. But this really didn't complicate anything as the supplied power plug in for the cameras used a single plug to power all 4 cameras. Unfortunately, only 60 ft of cable was supplied, but I was able to make it work. difficult part of the setup was connecting the 4 included cameras to the DVR to the correct ports. No, this isn't actually difficult, but for some odd reason, Channels 1-4 are the 4 right-most ports on the DVR. Also, you must connect the DVR to a monitor/TV for initial setup. After install and initial setup, you get to view your work and your beautiful cameras streaming your property. The footage is crystal clear, and pretty darn good at night. Zooming is easy, but despite the clear footage and ease of zoom, reading a license plate, even less than 50 ft away in perfect conditions is impossible, which is disappointing. But overall, the footage will work for what I want. The active deterrence functions are ok. The light is decent. But I am not sure why the program gives you a warning about the siren being loud...its not. Passing traffic on a residential street will drown out the siren. Best bet is use it to draw attention to your camera, hopefully deterring the trespasser, because you definitely aren't scaring then away with it. The user interface is alright. Fairy intuitive. But whenever I select Main Menu it restarts the whole DVR. Also, it appears that everything is functional, but it states my hard drive is corrupt. And like I said before, the 1-4 camera ports are the 4 right-most ports when looking from the back of the DVR. This will save you time unplugging and replugging them in trying to get your 4 camera display showing up the way you want it. The app is about the same as the user interface. It's alright. But has a fairly steep learning curve for how to operate everything and keeping your phone from blowing up every 30 seconds crying wolf. Ultimately, Lorex makes good cameras. They are owned by FLIR, and Military, Police, and other first responders trust FLIR and their cameras for good reason. But I really think they need to do some heavy polishing on the programming side of the app and interface for casual home owners to feel comfortable with its operations.

LOUD DVR fan

Impressed with 4k, needs some tweaks
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This system is impressive, I finally have it setup and running the way I want it to run and I really like this system. Resolution is great! I compared this to a 1080p security camera i have at my home and this is substantially better. Setup was smooth, but I really wish the cables were longer, especially considering this is a wired system, and the cables are literally your lifeline! I think they should come with 100 ft cables off the bat, instead I'm faced with the option of buying longer cables... not thrilled about that. Software was simple to navigate and setup. Cameras were installed pretty seamlessly with mounting hardware and had no other issues (except the cord length). Only other improvement was getting the resolution right, after setup, the picture wasn't as clear as I expected it to be, it was defaulted to record in 1080p, but once I switched it over to 4k, the picture became much more clear.
