"Loading" right out of the box
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My situation: I had an outdated night owl system that used BNC, so I bought this Lorex set so I can just use the existing BNCs and just swap out the cameras and DVR. The first 3 cameras were installed: the first one worked great, so I went onto the second one--also worked great; then went onto the third. Then I came back to check out the images. The first camera feed now flashes "loading/Lorex" back and forth. Then the second camera started doing it. Only the 3rd camera stayed on/functioned properly. So basically 2/8 cams were defective, possibly more; I'm not going to waste time installing the rest. The thing is, the first two cams worked initially, then seemed to have stopped after several minutes. I Googled the issues, found Lorex instructions to try and swap out ports around (good for bad, vice versa), did that and the bad camera still displays "loading." Tried swapping power supplies, even using the new included power adapters, still no cigar. Firmware says Up to Date. Did a factory reset, no cigar. So at this point, I think the cameras were defective, after troubleshooting according to Lorex instructions. Unless a miracle happens after this review, I will be returning it for another brand (maybe Swann). Thus far: The good: great pictures, even night time. The bad: defective cameras; loud DVR fan (I can't comment on the rest: I haven't even gotten to the phone app, or check out the recording, IR detection, motion, etc.).

Not good quality
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not impressed at all with the image On these security cameras. Also, DVR has to be connected directly to a modem/ router. It has no WiFi connection. I waited to long to install, since I had to get somebody to do it for me ( hard wired) now I can’t return them. These cameras are a total waste of money!

Set up is terrible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My husband and I just purchased this item at best buy and followed the promts. We hooked up each camera and went into settings trying to make the picture clearer. The picture was very blurry. We tried to change the resolution and the DVR said it needed to be rebooted. We did this and got an error saying unsupported mode. I tried to find a number to call...nothing is listed. I went online and searched as well. The only thing I could do is go to lorex.com and log into my new account and ask for help. When I did that it told me my password was wrong. Needless to say my husband and I tried multiple times to reset the password and it still doesn't work. In the email I received it say it can take up to 24 hours for your new password to work. If this is the kind of customer service they offer they can forget it. I will not buy another product from them. I will be returning this product tomorrow.

Buyer Beware! Not worth your time or your money
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have a lot to say about this device—D841 series—Best Buy information, and Lorex Technical Support, which is polite, incompetent, and utterly contemptuous of your time. If your system does not set itself up nicely and easily you can waste more than an entire day trying to get help. 1) How good is the D841 Security System? I am sorry to say that it is a poor quality system when up and running at its best. The box says that it provides “Color Night Vision” and I bought it to get a good clear snapshot of a vandal who has been damaging my property in my backyard. The Best Buy salespeople explained that an alarm LED light goes on from motion detection and illuminates the vandal’s face. In fact, the LED light goes on but provides no effective illumination. There is no night color vision unless you provide it from ambient backyard lights. If you use color vision without your own ambient lighting the picture becomes so grainy that you lose motion detection; even if you had it the picture is so grainy even with 4K resolution that it is useless for legal purposes. (Best Buy also said that since I was using the system as a “plug and play” I would not need to connect to the internet, but once I needed help Lorex insisted that I connect the DVR to the internet, which with my set-up was a major problem.) So now you are stuck with the camera’s infrared night vision. Both day (color) and night (black and white) pictures are fine provided nothing moves. But if a person moves his face becomes fuzzy and blurry even at the maximum 7 FPS. This may allow you to identify a neighbor but not a stranger. Best Buy told me that the cameras rotate L & R and acted like this was too obvious to ask. In fact, these are plastic bullet cameras that rotate up and down but not L & R, which limits mounting options. Lorex would not tell me whether the camera lens is plastic or glass. On my second call, while I was on a very long hold with Lorex technical support I saw a way to increase the resolution of the output to the screen from 1080 to 4K, so I did so. I then lost control of the DVR. Lousy Lorex design lets you fall into this trap and Lorex does not have a reset option. You must hook it up to a 4K monitor to regain control. I drove back to Best Buy after making a consult with the Geek Squad. Geek Squad had no 4K monitor, but sent me to sales. Sales said that the system record was probably limited by the monitor so that to have 4K recording I needed to buy a $300 4K monitor. I checked back with Geek Squad and this seemed right to them so I bought the monitor and they were dead wrong. Lorex recording quality and monitor display are entirely different settings. The motion detection default (80) is not very quick or sensitive, but if you increase it to 100 then it works better but the LED warning light attracts bugs that keep the system on "alarm and alert" as they swarm around the LED. An 8+ figure password is mandatory to use the DVR and if you let the DVR idle for 5 minutes you must re-enter the password. You do not have the option to eliminate the password. This is very annoying. 2) Lorex Technical Support: Firstly, there are two contradictory quick set-up guides that led me to make an incomplete connection. There is no manual. You must call and request a manual and it takes several weeks to arrive. The on-line manual cannot be downloaded or read in one piece; it displays about a third of a page at a time or else by searchable subject matter and as a beginner you don’t know what to search for. When you do search, you often find that the visual display of the controls does not match the visual display of your actual model and so the instructions cannot be followed. Sometimes you can work around this and sometimes not, and then you are stuck. The organization of the technical support is medieval. There are three tiers of technical support. These people are located throughout the world where wages are low and phone quality is often iffy. They handle multiple callers and often make you wait 20, 30 or 60+ minutes. One level 2 tech disconnected me after I had waited over an hour. Two day ago I was on the phone over 5½ hours just to get a Level 2 tech to schedule a “call-back” from a level 3 tech to program “snapshot” because the manual instructions do not work and he could not figure it out either. Lorex wants me glued to my phone near the system for two hours today and tomorrow for that call-back and I was told that if they did not call me back that I should call Lorex immediately and ask for a level 2 Tech. Your time means nothing to Lorex. Most of the Lorex information systems are not connected to each other and the Tech 1 people know nothing. I had a stiff BNC connector that I could not remove and I asked whether these should be removable by hand and the Tech said I should take the DVR to an electrical technician! Each time you call you start from scratch and when you are transferred you must provide all the information again: Model #, Device ID, your name, email, phone number, etc. And best, they don’t know where the Device ID is to be found and it is not on the box and not on the bottom of the DVR as they say. Occasionally you get a transfer where all this is not required. Each problem is assigned its own ticket # and you can be given ticket #, transferred to a Tech 2 who cannot find your ticket # because it is not yet in the system. My experience with Lorex is the most demeaning treatment of my time that I have suffered.

Dead 2 days after setting up, horrible support
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this during black friday. Set this system up, then the hard drive failed within 48 hours. Another problem is the cameras were not accessible for viewing from the TV. Called Lorex, and took nearly a month to receive a replacement after they agreed it was faulty hardware. Their support team is quite responsive, but their shipping is very slow. My thoughts on the actual product: Pros: Accessible remotely, good video quality with the 4k cameras. Upgradeable HDD up to 10GB Cons: Loud fans, faulty hardware, tough to set up. Both units I received have the screen issue where the cameras can't be viewed from the TV. No audio.

Defective. Do not buy this.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The cable is BNC, not good for outside. I had to buy PVC conduits to protect the cable which is an extra expenses. All cables are 60 feet x8, not enough length and I had to buy extra BNC cables. And then after all the work installing and set up the cables around the house, at the end Picture Quality at Day Time is Good and Lousy at Nighttime, I keep Getting Alert Notifications When no Person is Around, I Spent Countless Hours with Tech Support and Problem is Not Solved. Two cameras flickering after a week and from there on, I have enough. I'm returning the system.

Horrible Cameras and Lorex Support is Useless
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently purchased these cameras about 1-2 months ago and ever since they were set up they always had problems. Firstly, the app always has problems with my cameras not giving me the ability to put on the speaker or light on my cameras when I need to. Also, the app takes quite a bit of time to load up with all cameras. Secondly, my cameras always turn off and on randomly because the adapter the box came with: this means if there is a time which I need to review footage of a certain area of my house with the camera I won’t be able to! Moreover, sometimes all the cameras come offline, in fact, as we speak all my Lorex Cameras just went offline. This is very bad and unprofessional, as I was planning on traveling and won’t have the mind of ease that my Lorex Cameras (Not even 2 months old) won’t work AS THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO. Thirdly, the cabling and wiring is quite short for the adapters and especially the HDMI. Lastly, the support I received from Lorex for my adapters not working correctly was useless. I was on the call for more than 2 hours and received the same faulty adapter a week later!!! I was told the new adapter would work perfectly fine, but when I looked on the Lorex page I see they do not support with high power 4k cameras that I have. The lady on the support was calm and nice; nonetheless, she told me she would send me an adapter that would support all 4 of my Lorex 4k Cameras, but she still sent the same that I received with the system! I’m still suffering from the horrible Lorex Camera System and I hope you make the right choice not to purchase these cameras, as I did. I will be calling Lorex Support today (AGAIN!) and I will update this review if it is in any means helpful and if Lorex resolves this issue with me.

No Remote access!!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I usually don't spend time with reviews but Lorex customer service for their products is at best very poor. This is my second system in about a month, one from Costco and now from Best Buy. My issue is with the Lorex Home App and or their servers. After installing this system with three cameras I went through the process of setting it up to my local network and then remotely on various mobile devices. That was the easy part. However, on the remote devices only two cameras displayed. I spent nearly 40 hours on the phone with Lorex support each time waiting almost an hour before an agent came on the line. I was given excuses like "well this product is so new we are learning about how it works" or sometimes we just have to have our customers inform us how it works, Hum!! My main purpose of having a security camera is to receive notifications on a mobile device and have the capability to have two way audio. All of which Lorex pitched their cameras would be capable of doing. How can a manufacturing company produce a product and not have a clue on how to support it and produce an App that is worthless, is beyond my comprehension. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Horrible Customer Service from Lorex
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.FIRST, I POSTED THIS REVIEW ON THIER WEBSITE> THEY IMMEDIATELY SENT ME AN EMAIL ASKING IF THEY COULD CALL ME TO RESOLVE THE ISSUES BEFORE POSTING THE REVIEW. I AGREED. THEY NEVER CALLED> THAT WAS 14 DAYS AGO. ISSUE 1 AND MOST IMPORTANT, I'M TRYING TO SET UP A DDNS ACCOUNT. TIS HAS TO BE DONE ON THEIR WEBSITE WHICH I GOT LOCKED OUT OF. DON'T KNOW WHY BUT PASSWORD RESET NOT WORKING. YOU HAVE TO USE THEIR WEBSITE TO SET UP DDNS AND TO DO THAT YOUR LOGIN HAS TO WORK OF OCURSE. THEIR AUTOMATED PASSWORD RESET DOESN’T WORK. AND ONCE YOU ENTER THE SERIAL NUMBER OF YOUR DEVICE, YOU CANT CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT. I HAVE TRIED CHATTING ONLINE AND SAW AN ESTIMATED 75 MINUTE WAIT. THE CALL CENTER IS WORSE. ON WOTH THEM FOR AN HOUR BEFORE THEY ESCALATE TO ONSHORE TECH SUPPORT. THEN THEY PUT ME ON HOLD. THAT WAS ANOTHER HOUR BEFORE I GAVE UP. ISSUE 2 - I GRANTED MY WIFE ACCESS TO VIEW THE CAMERAS FROM HER APP. SHE GETS THE ALERTS HOURS AFTER I DO. SHE ALSO GETS RANDOMLY LOGGED OUT? DOESN"T DO ANY GOOD TO BE NOTIFIED OF ACTIVITY HOURS AFTER IT HAPPENS. ISSUE 3 - LOREX INDICATES ON THEIR WEBSITE THAT IFTTT IS COMING SHORTLY. MY GOAL IS TO INCORPORATE ALERTS WITH ALEXA VIA IFTTT. WHEN IS THAT COMING? DON'T KNOW SINCE IT TAKES A MINIMUM OF 75 MINUTES ON HOLD TO TALK TO SOMEONE . UNDERSTAND THE ONLY REASON I BOUGHT THIS WAS TO AVOID HAVING MY DATA ON THE CLOUD. NOW TRYING TO RESOLVE ISSUES I"VE HAD IT TOO LONG TO TAKE IT ALL DOWN AND RETURN AVOID THE COMANY AT ALL COSTS>

Bad Quality and Customer Service
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am replacing a La View system with the same setup and wiring so I know how it is suppose to be installed. First, the wiring from the camera fell off after I tried to fish the wire through the wall. I had to wait 45 minutes on customer service to find out it was not covered and considered my fault. I tried to explain that the wire had a cut in it from a manufacturing mistake, but they said I am out of luck. My other option is to go return the product and get a new one. Tip: You only have 15 days to return the product to BestBuy. I continued to install one camera to see if it works. After installing the 1st camera, the DVR is stuck on the "Blue Welcome Screen. " Tech Support said to install all the cameras. I install the second camera and is having the same issue. I do not see how installing all the cameras will help. I already wasted hours installing the first camera. I said forget it. Return it and get a system from Costco.

Camera turn off when there’s an absence of light
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The camera quality is great, you can see everything very clear, and it gives you a wide view. But, when the sun starts to set, and it gets dark outside the cameras turn off. They only turn back on if you turn on a light source under the camera. Otherwise, it won’t turn back on until the sun comes up. They also do not record when they’re turned off. The customer service for the company Lorex, to put simply, is a nightmare.

Junk
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Do not buy. DVR broke within 12 hours of owning. Alarm sounds is not loud. Can not adjust volume. Waste of money. I wanted to return it but it was already installed and I spoke with lorex. They said they would exchange the DVR but did not send me info before I left town on a buisness trip. I’m still waiting for exchange info and it’s been about 2 weeks. They suck, I should have stuck with ring products.

||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Absolutely the biggest piece of junk I’ve ever purchased! Night vision was non existent. Tech support read from manuals. No help at all. The system came with severely outdated firmware. Never was able to get it working after dark. PIECE OF JUNK! Loren needs to really look at their tech needs and train someone to do more than say “I’m sorry sir, wait just a minute”.
