    Great overall camera system

This is a great surveillance system for a home or business. The 4k playback is perfect for detailed viewing. The setup is very easy and intuitive. Running the cables is easy and totally dependent on your personal setup. The cables that come with the system are 60 feet long which is great for most runs. The online viewing system is very convenient if you have a wired connection you can tie into. The playback is easy and the 4k recording is very detailed. The night vision is so clear there's no loss of definition. The colors are less intense obviously but unlike most night vision cameras it's not black and white. The active deterrence works pretty well. The playback automatically tags the video timeline where it detects movement. The general settings picked up the trees moving on 1 camera when it was windy which makes the tags less useful. There is a search ability for people which makes it easier. The other nice thing about the cameras are where I have 1 camera set up there is a dark corner on 1 side and a light on the other. The camera handles it perfectly and there is no portion of the screen that is not clear and easy to see. The light does not affect the dark corner at all. Overall I would highly recommend this system for anyone considering a camera system for their property.

I have installed systems like this one before, so I knew what was involved before starting. I prefer wired cameras over wireless cameras mainly because I don’t like having to replace batteries and the occasional interference you get with wireless. The best advice I can give you is to plan your install very carefully. Make sure where you have inside access to where you intend to place your cameras to run your wires. Also make sure where you place the DVR unit is within reach of those wires. If you are not sure how to go about it, it’s best to hire someone to come out and do it for you. Another key piece of advice is to test the cameras BEFORE installing them. For my setup, I prefer to have a dedicated monitor. I do have other HDMI monitors with dual HDMI inputs, but I like having a “security station” After running all my wires and setting the system up, you can download the app to your phone or tablet for notifications. You can also live view your cameras and talk to anyone who has triggered the cameras. The cameras themselves have built in sirens, LED lights and color night vision. Overall this system works very well. The camera recording is 24/7 and and can store recording for wll over a month based on 2TB storage. The mobile app is super useful and well thought out.

Disappointed : 1. I order a new system, received a used one. (no problem, as long as it work the way is supposed to. 2. Long time waiting period for tech support, 3. No, user manual included. 4. Night color vision?, no more than three meters, even with enough light. 5. Not complete control of your system. 6. Good quality color vision during daylight, good quality b/w during night.

Good Starter System Given the Right Setting

The Lorex 8-channel, 4 Indoor/Outdoor Wired 4K UHD 2TB DVR Surveillance System is a solid, basic surveillance system to meet a variety of needs. First off, there is a lot of information in the description so I will break it down. The system is an 8-channel, 4 camera system. This means the system is capable of supporting up to 8 cameras with its DVR. However, out of the box you only get 4 cameras. This comes complete though with wiring to support all 4 cameras. If you want to expand to 8 cameras, you will need to buy more. The cameras themselves are Indoor/Outdoor ready. So each camera is weatherproofed and has a good temperature operating range to be certified to work in freezing temperatures as well as temperatures over 100 degrees F. These should be fine for most spots in the country. The video quality is 4K UHD with 2TB DVR. This means that the cameras as 4K Ultra High Def resolution. You have different options to of storage on the Digital Video Recorder (DVR). You can store at the 3840 x 2160 or lesser options depending on your preferences. This is a DVR system though. This is not NVR (Network Video Recorder). The big thing here is this does not support the Power over Ethernet (PoE) cameras. The cameras use a coax type connection. Now that this is explained, I will break down the performance of the system. The system is well made. The construction is solid with good workmanship. The DVR is nice. It is not fancy but it does the job. The cords and wiring provided are durable and well made. The only problem may be in the length of the cords. Because this is a DVR system, the cameras need power from somewhere. The installation wiring uses a duel cable with a coax wire and a power cable bundled together. The cords going to each camera though is only 60 feet long. While this may work in some applications, it may not be long enough especially in 2 story houses. Even if you ran your own coax cable of a longer length, you still have to worry about getting power to each camera. As far as set up, this is fairly easy. All the hardware is included in the box. Running the cable is the hardest part. Connecting to the back of the DVR or the back of the camera is a snap. Once powered, there are some minor steps to run through to set up the DVR, but then you are done. I was a little disappointed in the overall performance. When you see the box, the images make it look like the video quality is like a picture on your phone. This is a bit misleading in my opinion. When I looked at people on camera, I knew who they were because I knew them. If it was a stranger though, I could make out general characteristics but not to the extent of the images on the box. The cameras are also not Pan/Tilt/Zoom cameras. This means that you pretty much rely on the camera as is. You can try to improve the image through changing resolution/sharpness/etc. but that only improves things so much. If you want to make out a license plate at 60 feet, it probably won’t do it. There is a companion iPhone/iPad app as well as a similar Android counterpart. The iPhone app was very easy to set up and is well laid out and easy to use. You are able to check your cameras and get alerts when you are away from home. In conclusion, the Lorex system is a good system. It will meet the basic needs of a surveillance system. I would recommend this system to someone, but I would point out that you need to contrast that against what you want or need. What camera do I want (PoE or Coax)? Where will the camera be located? What resolution do I want? Do I need to zoom in on areas? Is 60 feet of cable enough? This system will do a lot for you, but it is not going to do everything.

This is a great system. Why 4 stars? The interface for me was not as easy to use or intuitive as I'd expect. Maybe someone with more computer/security camera experience might say different. Otherwise it's a 5 star. The picture quality on my 4k tv is AMAZING! Even zoomed in, the picture clarity remains. Unlike some wireless systems where if a person isn't standing still and the quality is a bit blurred, these stay clear with any amount of movement. The color night vision is also a big plus for these. The siren seemed a little weak to me, but it should be enough to scare any would-be intruders off.

I'm not a security professional, but like many people I want a system to keep my family and property safe. The Lorex system. Is a great starter set, especially if you want to upgrade from a wireless system. I hired a local company to install this, so I can't really speak to the ease of installation. They did have to drill a few holes and run cables through my attic space, so if you are a renter, this is something to be aware of. Once they got everything installed and connected, it was easy to set up the app. I have this connected to a 4K monitor in a spare bedroom and the picture quality is amazing, even at night. However I use my phone for most of my viewing and the quality is still good. The system comes with 4 cameras, but it is upgradable if your needs change. The best part of this system is the stability. A wireless system is dependent on your wifi, but this system records and stores the videos on a DVR so if your wifi drops, you're still covered. While wired systems aren't for everyone, they've much more secure if you own your own home.

This surveillance system is overall a nice system with a professional feel and quality. I have a set of wireless cameras and an ARLO camera and I have nothing but problems with them and frankly, the quality of the ARLO camera doesn't stand up to this system. In terms of connectivity and features, this system offers plenty of options to start with and is easily expanded by adding more cameras or additional cabling if you have longer runs for some cameras. For a smaller home, with the DVR placed in the right spot you shouldn't need additional cables, however, part of the difficulty in setting these systems up is planning out where your cable runs will go without making the installation look unprofessional. I would highly recommend ditching the instructions and watching a few YouTube videos on how to install cameras and have it look good. The smart features are cool but for our house the system just being there and recording doors and the driveway are awesome. I like the motion detection feature that ignores cars on a street (moving fast) but will still capture events of interest like a car pulling in to the driveway or someone walking up. You can customize how this is set up so that it works for your environment. The one thing I love about this system is being able to use the DVR itself to scrub through video rather than fussing around with an App to pull out something of interest. This system, of course, does have connectivity so you can do it with an app so you really can do it whichever way is easier. On top of that with the app, you can get notified of events but in my location there tends to be a lot of people around so I get false alarms and have turned it off. Video quality is probably the most important thing to me when comparing to other systems and with the 4K resolution cameras, this system offers superb resolution and good night time viewing. It streams video well to the app and on the TV of course. The only thing I am not sure I'm in love with is the system navigation/menus aren't all that intuitive but I've yet to see a security system yet that masters that and has quality hardware to match. I would say this system strikes a balance on that and puts more emphasis on being good at recording quality video and being reliable. That's specifically where I'd say my wireless cameras fall short is in terms of quality, they just don't seem to stack up to a wired system and certainly nowhere close to a costly IP based camera system. For installation, I would say that the instructions aren't the best and again I'd recommend watching videos online and reading through the included instructions for specifics on this system. Overall it's a solid system and I'd recommend it over wasting money on wireless cameras that run on battery or wifi - they just are not as good as a system like this.

I can't believe they sell this for so cheap! Everything about it is high quality. The cameras are nice and solid, with very nice mounting brackets. They even come with their own screws and drywall anchors so you can install everything right out of the box. The installation and set up is super simple, and the instructions are well written, and even include color pictures. The included cables are really long, but they're wrapped up nice and neat, so it was easy to just unspool the amount I needed, and then reinstall the twist tie to keep the rest of the cable coiled nice and neatly. The only gripes I have is that the included Ethernet cable, and HDMI cable are super short, but I used another HDMI cable I had lying around and everything still worked perfectly. The other gripe I have is with the power supplies. The are both super long, so if you're using a power strip you will end up blocking 3 or 4 outlets. I ended up plugging another power strip into my existing power strip, just to plug in the 2 that come with this camera set up. If they had rotated the prongs on the wall warts by 90 degrees so the body of the wall warts hung off of the power strip instead of inline with the power strip, there would have been no problem. Maybe they'll make that improvement sometime in the future. Other than the short included HDMI and Ethernet, and the weird power supply block issue, I didn't have any other problems installing the system. The set up was super easy and only took about 5 minutes following the on screen prompts. The menu setting is amazing and will basically allow you to configure each camera individually exactly how you would like it to work, and it has great disply views, and very intuitive functions that can easily be adjusted without even reading the instructions. However, if you do read the instructions there is an amazing amount of custom features. The picture quality is top notch, although the edges are fish eyed slightly. I would recommend following the set up instructions so you know how to adjust the cameras correctly. The bottom 2/3rds of the camera view is the sweet spot, and you should make sure that is where you focus what you most want to be recording. Overall there are a few slight things I would like to see changed, but nothing that would make me not give this security camera system a full 5 stars. I would highly recommend this system to anyone. I have 2 other brands already and they are no where near as inclusive as this Lorex system is. I can't wait to purchase 4 more cameras! The high quality, good looks, ease of use, and over all polished user and owners experience for this system is worth so much more than what it sells for, it's a screaming bargain for it's price point and I don't know how they sell it for so low and actually make any money.

Upon initially opening the box and examining the contents, The quality and feel of the Hardware and camera really stand out. It doesn't feel light or cheap and plasticy. The DVR is slim and inconspicuous allowing you to conceal it easily. If you're asking "why do you need to conceal it? Two reasons... One being obviously if a crime is committed and someone comes in to look for the recording device. and Two being that it has a panic button on the front of it so if you're in a dire situation in the house, you can signal for help without being obvious. Setup was simple, the hardest part and most time consuming was running the wires to the cameras throughout the attic so that everything looks nice and is concealed. As was getting everything setup with the companion app. Having the ability to check through my phone no matter where I'm at in the world when hooked to the Ethernet especially in this day and age is a God send for peace of mind. It's said to be compatible with Google Assistant and Alexa. I do not have either of these but I do have Samsung Smart things and am in the process of seeing if I can somehow control it through that because it allows me to control many other devices that are controllable through Alexa and Google assistant. Once all hooked up the picture quality is superb. You can go into the settings and adjust the pixels ratio you want up to 4k. Lowering it allows for more recording time on the supplied 2TB hard drive. One thing I plan to test is the frame rate at lets say 1080p compared to maxed out at 4k to see what fits my liking best. I would highly recommend this to others looking to add safety and security.

My family's safety is my number one priority, so I want to have eyes all around my house to keep my family safe. When we first purchased our home, I went with a different system that was 1080p video quality. Although that system functioned as intended, the video quality was not enough to get a clear image of the few incidents that we had with our vehicles and home. The video quality got a bit too blurry after some distance. So, I went ahead and gave the Lorex a try, and I must say that I am impressed. To start, if you are not comfortable crawling in small spaces, drilling in your walls, etc. then you should probably go with professional installation. To someone who is willing to get their hands dirty, you can have the system installed in a matter of hours. It was a bit easier for me since I had a per-existing surveillance system. I had the Lorex system up and running in no time. The cameras look nice, and the light is an extra for night monitoring. As for the video quality, I am really happy that I got my hands on this system. It is a much crisp clear video quality. Night time surveillance is much better when you can actually see things better. Motion detection is working great, and the system menu is easy to navigate. You can access your system from anywhere with internet connectivity, which is very important for me, and really puts me at ease knowing that I am able to keep an eye around the house from anywhere I go. If you are in the market for a home surveillance system, I would highly recommend a wired system like this over a wireless one (I have both), as wired systems are much more reliable and safe. The Lorex system is great, and best of all, the price is hard to beat. Keep your family, and your home, safe with this Lorex surveillance system. You won't regret it!

    Good Security System

Intro: This security system by Lorex, comes with four cameras and 8 channels which means that up to four more cameras can be added in the future, the Digital video recorder or DVR comes with a big 2TB of memory. Resolution: Yes they are 4K resolution cameras, but like pretty much all other security systems, 4K resolution can only be viewed in live viewing, in other words it does not record in 4K. It does however record in 1080p. This is probably done so that the memory on the DVR doesn’t get full right away, and to have the proper amount of frame rate for a smooth picture, otherwise the movement will be very choppy if it is anything less than 30 frames per second. Wired vs Wireless: The biggest differences between wired and wireless is that for wired security system so you have to run the cables throughout your house or place of business and through the walls etc, wireless might seem better in this aspect but they do require batteries at all times. That’s the biggest thing to consider when looking into security cameras. Operating System: this security system could be very simple to set up, or somewhat complicated if you choose to go that route. Simple if you just connect all the cameras and leave all the default settings, or Complicated because you do have to spend some time in the menus and adjust things like The sensitivity of the cameras, record times, etc. App and smart speakers: Like all modern security cameras, this security system is compatible with the Lorex app, as well as with Alexa smart speakers. Inconclusion: this is a very good security system, and everything is included in the box, all cables, HDMI cable and even a mouse for navigating through the menus.

Good Security Camera System but Outdated Elements

The Lorex 8-Channel, 4-Camera Indoor/Outdoor Wired 4K UHD 2TB DVR Surveillance System is a good little security camera system with some outdated functions. Since this is a wired system, be aware that you will have to run wires from the DVR to each camera. Plan this out in advance to save you much frustration. You may have to plan to crawl in attic spaces, etc. so be prepared for it to take several hours for installation. However, being a wired system comes with peace of mind that you won't have to worry about dead batteries rendering your system useless. Once installation is complete, you setup your system by connecting a monitor to the DVR unit and going through the setup screens. The UI for the system looks like it was developed in the early 1990s. It is ridiculously outdated. This is by far, the worst part of the system. Also, having to connect to a monitor to setup instead of having a way to setup via an app on a smart phone is not ideal. I didn't have a monitor (I have all laptops) so I had to connect it to my TV for setup. The smart phone app used for viewing the cameras is OK. It works well to view your cameras to keep an eye on things. The notifications are pretty much terrible. You get a push notification (if on iOS) that tells you motion was detected. No thumbnail image to quickly see what it was. You have to open the app to view the video. Wouldn't take much to make the notification more useful. For the price, the security camera system is good. There are better security camera systems out there that offer a better setup experience and better smart app, but for the price, this system does what it needs to.
