    Macbook M1

Pros: * Impressive Performance: The Apple M1 chip continues to shine, offering remarkable speed and responsiveness in everyday tasks, from web browsing to content creation. Apps open in a snap, and multitasking is a breeze.
 * Silent and Cool Operation: The fanless design ensures your MacBook Air operates silently and remains cool even under moderate workloads, contributing to a comfortable and distraction-free user experience.
 * Excellent Battery Life: After 4 months of use, the MacBook Air still delivers exceptional battery life, easily lasting through a full day of work or entertainment without needing to recharge.
 * Sleek Design: The slim, lightweight design and Space Gray finish exude a premium look and feel. It's a stylish and portable companion for any setting.
 * Retina Display: The 13.3" Retina display continues to impress with sharp visuals and vibrant colors, making it enjoyable for both work and entertainment.
 * Rosetta 2 Compatibility: Most apps not natively designed for the M1 chip run seamlessly through Rosetta 2, so you won't face compatibility issues with your favorite software.
Cons: * Limited RAM: The 8GB of RAM can be somewhat limiting for power users or those who run memory-intensive applications. Consider upgrading to 16GB if your work demands it.
 * Storage Space: The 256GB SSD might feel constrictive if you deal with large files or a substantial media library. Managing storage space and utilizing external drives may be necessary.
 * USB-C Ports Only: The MacBook Air offers only two USB-C ports, and you'll likely need dongles or a dock for connecting older USB-A devices, HDMI, or SD cards. It can be inconvenient for some users.
 * Non-Upgradeable: Just like its predecessors, this MacBook Air model has soldered components, which means you can't upgrade the RAM or storage after purchase. It's essential to choose the right configuration from the start.
 * Lack of Dedicated Graphics: While the integrated GPU is capable for most tasks, those needing high-end graphics for gaming or specialized work might find it lacking.
 * Price Tag: Apple's products have always been on the premium side, and this MacBook Air is no exception. The cost can be a barrier for budget-conscious buyers.
In conclusion, the MacBook Air with the Apple M1 chip remains a strong choice for users seeking a powerful and portable laptop. After 4 months of use, it continues to impress with its performance and battery life. However, the limited RAM and storage, along with the reliance on USB-C ports, might not be suitable for everyone. Consider your specific needs and budget before making a purchase.

I recently picked up a MacBook Air with the M1 chip from my local Best Buy, and I’ve got to say, I’m really impressed with this machine. Walking into the store, I wasn’t 100% sold on it—I’d heard the hype about the M1 chip, but I wanted to see it for myself. The staff were super helpful, let me mess around with a demo unit, and after about 10 minutes of playing with it, I was ready to take one home. I went with the 13.3-inch model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD in Space Gray—kept it simple since I mostly use it for work, streaming, and some light photo editing. First off, the in-store experience at Best Buy was smooth. They had it in stock, and I walked out with it in like 15 minutes—no delays, no hassle. The price felt fair, too, especially since I caught it during a small sale, which knocked a bit off the usual $999 tag. Unboxing it at home, the design hit me right away—super sleek, lightweight, and that Retina display is just gorgeous. It’s crazy how something this thin can feel so solid. Performance-wise, the M1 chip lives up to the buzz. This thing boots up in seconds, apps open instantly, and I’ve yet to hear the fan kick in—not that the Air even has one. I’ve had a dozen Chrome tabs open, Spotify playing, and Photoshop running, and it doesn’t even flinch. Battery life is wild, too. I charged it fully when I got it, and after a few days of regular use, I still had juice left. Probably get a solid 15-18 hours out of it, which is a game-changer compared to my old laptop that needed a plug every few hours. Overall, buying this MacBook M1 from Best Buy was a solid move. It’s fast, reliable, and feels like it’ll last me years. If you’re on the fence, I’d say go for it—especially if you can snag it in-store and skip the shipping wait. Five stars from me.

Bought for School Laptop—even better than expected

This is my first MacBook I have ever owned. It was a bit of a foreign device for the first few hours of use, but I feel the setup is so intuitive and user friendly it would come very naturally to virtually anybody using it. I bought it as an upgrade from an old laptop that simply was not meeting my needs as a college student and it checks all of my boxes. It’s fast, reliable, easy to use, holds its charge for a great amount of time, is small enough to fit in my backpack, and the keys on the keyboard are quiet. If you’re considering, ESPECIALLY as a school laptop, I think it fits the bill perfectly. It interfaces very neatly with other apple products, which was a draw for me though I didn’t think it’d help as much as it does. I don’t have social media apps on my laptop, so when I get texts while I’m working I can just quickly respond and get right back to work without risking a 2+ hour social media detour. The M1 chip is powerful enough to easily get through any school work I have (quizzes, exams, papers) and, with the M2 chip now out in the most current MacBook Air, the M1 is priced at what I feel to be entirely reasonable for the device you get. It is absolutely still expensive, but you get what you pay for with tech. My former laptop (a chromebook) was a fraction of the price, with a fraction of the capability. Love love love this laptop, and highly recommend it to anybody considering it.

Never I have seen a MacBook behave in this crazy way! All of a sudden, my Mac Air just stopped working. There was a small pop sound and a bad smell from the system. Had to leave the house. it is not turning after. Worst ever performance from a Mac.

My 11 year old MacBook Air hadn’t died yet, but I was concerned about how difficult it might be to start all over on a new one… if I waited until it didn’t work anymore. I heard that it wasn’t as simple as an IOS devise (iPhone, iPad). I’ve had old phones completely die, and then get a new one and easily moved everything from iCloud. When I saw how cheap the new ones were ($899 on sale at Best Buy vs $1299 when I bought my last one 11 years ago) I decided it was time (actually, it was easy. The new mac walked me through transferring my preferences, apps, documents, etc. from the old Mac via a peer to peer on my home WI-FI). I was sold on the flash storage on the old MacBook Air (vs the slower, but larger mechanical hard disks), but the larger flash storage combined with Apple’s new M1 chips are absolutely AMAZING! This thing is INSTANT ON! The retina display is a great improvement too! Apparently, the new M1 chip runs so efficiently that the battery seems to last forever. Plus, they dissipate heat through metal to completely eliminate the need for a fan (I don’t miss the fan noise and the slowdown I used to get when the computer was doing a lot of work). They made the outside dimensions smaller without really changing much for the user. The screen size is the same 13” but has less metal around it. Somehow... it still seems strong. The trackpad is larger too. I should try to find something negative to say as well. I miss the tradition “look” of the lighted logo, but I read that they removed it for good reason (but, that actually did more for Apple than for me). There appears to be a problem with sharing high resolution YouTube videos on my Apple TV. It changes the resolution on my computer and shrinks everything… including the text and buttons down to the point that I have to go get a magnifying glass to see or read anything at all... and return the resolution to the normal usable setting. I'm pretty sure that there will be a software fix in a future update to address this issue. Other than the Apple TV issue, almost everything about this MacBook Air is better… and by a LOT! It’s a heck of a deal!

This is my first Mac. I bought for my wife (she’s the guinea pig). He last computer was purchased in 2012 and was an HP with an I3. It still works, but has the typically Windows slowdown and poor battery life. This laptop has fantastic battery life and a blazing fast M1 chip. It’s light and Mac OS feels very light and airy. So far we are getting adjusted just fine and it’s proven to be a great purchase. The price is great too. Good luck finding an Intel machine with this kind of power and battery life at this price. I highly recommend it!

The MacBook Air is a slim, lightweight laptop that offers excellent portability and a sleek design. It has a high-quality Retina display that delivers crisp, clear visuals, making it ideal for tasks such as photo and video editing. Additionally, the keyboard is comfortable to type on, and the trackpad is smooth and responsive. One of the standout features of the MacBook Air is its battery life, which can last up to 12 hours on a single charge, depending on usage. This makes it an excellent choice for people who need to work on the go and don't want to be tethered to a power outlet. The MacBook Air also boasts a powerful M1 chip, which provides fast performance and seamless multitasking. It runs macOS, which is known for its user-friendly interface and reliability. However, there are a few downsides to consider. The MacBook Air only has two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports, which may be limiting for some users who need to connect multiple peripherals simultaneously. Additionally, while the M1 chip provides excellent performance, it may not be compatible with certain older software programs. Overall, the MacBook Air is an excellent choice for people who value portability, sleek design, and reliable performance. Its long battery life and powerful M1 chip make it a standout option in the laptop market.

Screen malfunctioned within 7 months. I will go to Apple to see if they will cover the limited 1 year warranty or not. My son is disappointed. So am I. He did take good care of it. Since I am an engineer, I can see it is a manufacturing defect near the lower left corner of the display. The outer glass of the display itself is not cracked.

I’ve used a MacBook Pro for work for years, but this is my first Apple laptop for home use. I waited for the release with the M1 chip, and have not been disappointed one bit! I use it for normal everyday use...Office products, internet, video streaming...but also occasionally will do some photo or video editing. This new MacBook Air handles everything with no problems whatsoever. It is crisp, fast, responsive, and handles everything easily. No fan — no problem. This machine never gets warm. Retina display looks great, the magic keyboard is indeed magical...I actually hate typing on my 2017 Pro for work after using my new Air. Is it perfect? No. The webcam is still not great (although fine for what we use it for), and only 2 ports is not near enough. If you’re doing heavy duty video encoding you might consider the Pro, but the Air is more than powerful enough for general everyday use and more. We have iPhones, iPads, Apple TV, so this obviously integrates smoothly into the Apple ecosystem. Using Airdrop to share files or images throughout our home makes me wonder why I didn’t make this change sooner. My local Best Buy was out of the color I wanted, but ordering online was a breeze and it was delivered to my door the next day. I was in the market for a new laptop for about a year, and I’ll tell you this was worth the wait. Couldn’t be happier!

Purchased brand-new on 22nd March 2023 which is exactly 1 year, 5 months & 10 days ago at the time of writing this review. Currently running macOS 14.6.1 with a battery health of 90% & around 50 charge cycles. All I have to say is this is the best laptop I have ever touched/owned/used in my entire lifetime. I especially love the Gold color it’s a real head turner every time I take this laptop out in public or in meetings. The performance of this beast of a machine is out of this world & it just blows everything else out of the water. Battery life is also pretty amazing. I just love the portability of this at 13.3” it’s the best size for a laptop, easy to carry around & fits perfectly into any backpack or carry case/sleeve. Speakers, mics, webcam & display are unbelievably great for what it is. Everything is just so smooth & snappy. I’m just so in love with this machine.

Before the M1 MacBook Air, I never before considered getting a Mac, because much better values were always available on the Windows side. That is no longer the case. In terms of speed, portability, build quality, and battery life, this is as good as or better a value than comparable higher tier Windows ultrabooks. Since you cannot expand DRAM or SSD, you need to make sure to get enough of both when you buy it. Compared to some other manufacturers, Apple makes you pay through the nose for every step up in memory or storage, so the favorable value proposition can disappear once you leave the base configuration of 8GB/256GB that I went with. Unless you are a power user and/or work with lots of big media files (audio, video, photos), this should be enough for most people. My impression after using my Mac for several weeks is that it seems to do better on 8GB of memory than my Windows laptop does. Thoughts regarding MacOS vs Windows: It doesn't matter much to me, and switching between them is not a big deal after a small learning curve. I don't consider myself having permanently switched to MacOS. I still use Windows and my next laptop might be Windows, Mac, Linux, or ChromeOS depending on what looks best at the time. Positives: * Great value * Excellent screen * Attractive device overall * Insane battery life * Powerful processor * No fan Neutral: * OK keyboard * Mediocre camera Negatives: * Cannot expand memory or storage * Only one free USB port when plugged into power * No SD card slot * I miss having a touchscreen

The MacBook Air has always been a light and easily portable choice for Mac users. The “Late 2020” model is all that, but lighter, thinner, and even easier to use. Based on Apple’s new M1 CPU, this generation of Macs is very different from the prior generations of Intel-based computers. The M1 MacBook Air has 8GB of “shared memory,” but where that might be a limitation in an Intel Mac, it’s definitely more than enough for this machine! This MacBook Air model is fast, responsive, and really easy to use. It has only two ports: two USB4/Thunderbolt (USB-C) ports for charging and any peripherals you might need. We bought a USB-C hub to allow the use of a USB-3 external drive for Time Machine backups, watching movies with an external DVD drive and so on. Sure, you could do those things wirelessly (including watching digital versions of those movies), but we wanted to avoid wireless bandwidth bottlenecks. Finally, the MacBook/MacBook Air line has evolved from a plain aluminum case (gorgeous, but kind of bland nowadays) to aluminum or Space Gray, to finally adding a gold option. Since it’s my wife’s primary computer (and a late Christmas present), we went with gold. ;)
