So far so good! Working fast and efficiently. Beautiful color. Design is the same as the previous model but the inside feel of it is new. Such as slight enhancements to the apps icons in the main computer screen. Was worried about it heating since its fanless but no issues so far..I've used it for only about 2 days now. So let's hope it stays great! There were a few lags here and there but that was maybe because of my internet or idk? But I still like it currently. I use it for college work and also personal use. I also did some light video editing on it. (I'm not a pro yet) I wanted to get the 16gb ram but bestbuy didn't have the option to upgrade. So its ok as I've heard 8gb should be fine for the majority of users.

    Awesome Portable Power Horse

Great laptop to use on the go. I currently use a custom hackintosh for when I am working in the office. I needed something that runs MacOS and ultra portable. Right now it checks all the boxes. Speed, performance and stability. Best Buy needs to carry the 16gb model of the laptop. Most customer will get by with only 8gb but 16gb should be an option that offer as well. One negative thing I can say about the laptop is the screen quality. I think they the resolution and brightness could really use some improvement. Especially compared to the iPad Pro display. Battery life is AMAZING. I have not charged the MacBook Air in days. Yes, days. And I still have 31% connected to a 27 in 4k monitor via usb-c to display port. Considering I got this laptop for $999 out the door. Great value.

    Quality Apple Product and Laptop

This is my first MacBook purchase, but not my first Apple product. When looking for a new laptop I was planning to stick with Windows, however, I have an iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad and other miscellaneous Apple products, so why not switch to Apple. I have quite enjoyed this laptop. The screen is crisp and with minimal bezel. The touchpad is responsive, and I have gotten use to to having to fully click it in order to press on something. The keyboard's keys have enough travel that it does not make it uncomfortable nor cramp my fingers and can feel super satisfying. It is also nice to have a backlit keyboard, although for the price, the laptop should have a nice backlit keyboard. The computer can handle having multiple tabs open well without draining the battery or becoming overheated. Also, it handles light gaming; although with The Sims 4, with multiple expansions, the computer got hot soon and caused some worry (although there was minimal lag and problems). Battery life is also nice; I use the laptop mostly for video streaming, research, writing and light gaming, and I feel like I have to charge it maybe three times a week. Quite awesome. The laptop is also quite simple to use after you throw out everything you know about Windows computers. There are only a couple things in which bothered me. First is how to turn the backlit keyboard on, and adjust the brightness. I'm someone who likes to explore computer systems, but for some reason it took me a while to figure out where to find it. Maybe I am being picky, but I would have liked physical keys located on the keyboard rather than have to go through multiple steps on the screen. The second was the price point. Do not get me wrong, I know you pay for quality and this laptop feels like and performs like quality. However, for some higher end Windows computers at the same price point, you can get so much MORE: more ram, more memory, better processing speeds, better speakers... etc. Again, you are paying for a solid machine, with a strong name behind it, with quite a large ecosystem (closed but large, nonetheless), but I guess quality, battery life and longevity can over come the price point. Overall, I have enjoyed using this laptop and would get another Apple laptop in the future when necessary. Do I recommend? Yes, to someone who wants a quality laptop with a fabulous battery life to use for streaming, web surfing and word documents. The laptop is not for someone who wants to use it for gaming. (I do not do photo or video editing, so I can not speak that use.) Plus the laptop is beautiful, especially in Gold.

    Best MacBook Air ever

This is a great laptop. I had a 2020 intel MacBook Pro that used to get hot at the slightest excuse. In contrast, this M1 MBA is a champ. The battery life is great and it handles everything I can throw at it. When I bought it, I was a it apprehensive about only having 8GB RAM, but within days, I wasn't even thinking about it. I have a lot of browser tabs open at any given time and it just chugs along. I use MS Office 365 a lot and I think it did something the first time it ran for the M1 chip, but since then I can't really tell a difference. In fact, none of my other apps have had any issues with the M1 chip. I hope it keeps working like this for another 4-5 years.

This is the best laptop I have ever owned. It is so compact and lightweight and it sips battery power. You will not have to plug it in until the end of the day with normal usage. There’s no fan inside so it’s literally silent. It does get warm but it will not overheat. Also Apple doesn’t give you more RAM or GPU power than you need, however this laptop is not suited for power users. But for those who only do basic computer functions like email/Facebook/YouTube videos like me, it is perfect.

After my positive experience with the M1 MBA, I have upgraded my daughter's i7MBP with this MBA of 512Gb capacity as she has a bigger library of music, photos and videos for her college projects. She appreciates the lighter weight in her backpack, all-day battery life, and the blazing-fast performance with the M1 chip and only 8GB RAM!!! This should be high on the list for college-bound grads in their laptop selection process!

Very fast. Battery life is super. The form factor is awesome, very compact and light. I have only one problem and that would be my mistake, I got an 8GB version I really should have chosen a 16GB because I edit a lot of photos. My camera is 62megs pixel so the 8 is a little limiting. The processor is super fast thought and I think most people would be very happy with the 8GB machine. This is a great machine for almost everything I do.

Nice upgrade from the 2012 MacBook Pro I had.. such a difference in screen resolution, weight and performance. Still getting to grips with the functionality, nice to be able to load iOS and iPadOS apps from the App Store onto these M1 macs. 8gb is less memory than I would have liked but haven’t seen any noticeable difference so far. WiFi seems more zippy than my older model for sure.

This is the best laptop for $1000. I bought the higher tier with 512 Gb SSD which is super fast and can be used as a ram swipe. It is super fast whatever it can do within its range and it can do many many things except gaming. The battery life is amazing. I am constantly getting more than 10 hours with my heavy workload (plenty of chrome tab, word, PowerPoint, R software. It is perfect for school and office work. It hardly gets hot or throttle. Build quality is literally fanstatic. In the cons I can say- 1. Screen is reflective even though there is coating and auto light sensitivity is very good still can't be used against the window. 2. Has only 2 thunderbolt port and both are in one side. Charging is a pain. 3. Bezel is old style and looks the same as previous models 4. Do not buy 8 gb version.. Buy the one with 16gb version

What can I say? The Air is an excellent machine. Pretty, light, silent, fast, beautiful screen, long battery life, and the stability and beauty of MacOS. That said, this is not a Pro level machine. If you want to use MS Office, browse the web, and enjoy full integration with your iPhone and iPad, then this is the perfect machine. If you need to do real work in a professional workflow, like run Parallels, heavy multitask, rendering work, etc... not the right machine. You will quickly eat up the 8GB RAM and the thermal throttle on the fanless M1 base will show its ugly head. If you need a real workhouse, look at the 14" MacBook pro with the M1 pro or better.

This is a great laptop with one caveat - the 8GB model isn't very good. It constantly has to rely on the SSD "swap" and it. will. hang. Get the 16GB and you'll be very happy. A snappy processor, a great form factor, great keyboard, decent screen. Really good battery life.

I think all the reviews are almost spot on. + The best battery life I have seen in a laptop. + Great Mac screen + for basic video editing very efficient and quick + very smooth OS However, as a long-time windows user coming over after all the reviews here are some points to note; - still buggy, Mac is not a perfect OS and still has occasional lags and software glitches which can be annoying - external monitor support is surprisingly terrible. I have had to install a number of additional applications to enable native display on 4k monitors and even then it is not the smoothest - 8 gb is very well utilized but if you're like me and leave your computer on with a bunch of apps open and go back and forth you'll notice some slowing down after a while - if you use Citrix for work apps, it is generally smooth but quite buggy I think the M1 chip is still in infancy and has great potential

The M1 Macbooks were my first step into the Mac ecosystem, and the laptop itself is easily the best I've used. The speed of the computer is unreal and makes me forget that it only has 8 GB of RAM. The experience of this laptop has been extremely convenient and easy to switch over to from prior laptops. The only issue (and it is a big one) is that download speeds can be extremely long. I'm not sure if this is an issue with just mine, but documents and assignments take much longer to download in comparison to even my phone. I have yet to test it with an ethernet cable, but long download times are something you may need to be wary of when buying this laptop. Other than that issue, however, the laptop has been extremely light and capable, and it fits all the needs to help me be productive in college.

I upgraded from a late 2013 MacBook Pro that was finally on its last legs. Despite having half the ram the M1 MacBook Air has beat the old machine at almost everything that would constitute normal office/photoshop type work (granted the sheer generational difference in processor/memory is the bigger reason). I don’t care for the lack of ports but for the value it’s an easy enough work around to buy a usb c hub or dongle.

So far so good. I haven't had any issues with any existing software not working with the new M1 chip. I do wish I could add more storage and ram should I want to later. Unless Apple ever goes back to allowing that to happen, which is unlikely, be sure to plan for the future now when it comes to drive size and memory. That's the only reason for my 4 star rating instead of 5. Of course, you can always add an external drive for more storage. But make sure you have enough ram when you buy the computer. Other than that, it is a terrific laptop.
