Get the 16GB RAM model
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great laptop with one caveat - the 8GB model isn't very good. It constantly has to rely on the SSD "swap" and it. will. hang. Get the 16GB and you'll be very happy. A snappy processor, a great form factor, great keyboard, decent screen. Really good battery life.

Change from my Macbookpros
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a longtime committed Apple customer. This review will probably be most useful for older customers. I've just purchased this macbook so am still getting used to it. This is a very light macbook air. That's probably its best feature as far as I'm concerned. I've owned macbook pros in the past so it's nice to have such a light machine. But for someone with aging eyes I find it more difficult to read information quickly on this mac because there's a lot of information crowding a small space. Fonts and icons are necessarily very small. I realize there are ways to deal with this but it's worth acknowledging this reality. I miss the space of the macbook pro screen. Also significant for me is the fact that there are only a few ports on the computer body itself--for power cord and earphones. There's an additional port that allows connection with a "hyperdrive" (sold separately) that provides usb and several other ports. If I were working at a desk this wouldn't be a negative, but since I work on my lap, that means that the laptop has a series of additional cords and drives, etc, dangling off it--a bit like a patient on life support. I do love the screensaver. And once I get over the learning curve I expect I'll be fine with this machine. I would certainly recommend that a friend consider buying it if they don't mind the issues mentioned above.

Review from the perspective of Cubase/Windows User
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First off I really wanted to love this computer. Sadly it fell short in handling music productions apps. I loaded it with Reason 11, Cubase elements 11, Cubase pro 8 and a few Vsts like Avenger. Reason opened and played fine, though it did have trouble running Avenger; I made a tweak in the settings and made it work! Cubase on the other hand did not do well at all, Cubase elements showed a pink screen the entire time and creating new projects was impossible. Loaded Cubase Pro 8 and that managed to open but had some glitchy graphics, the UI kept bugging out specially when moving the pointer over certain areas of the window. Garage band and Logic played fine, they opened Avenger well but had trouble opening Reason rack as a plugin and crashed with a dialog box in each instance. As mentioned above I really wanted to love this computer but the shortcomings in regards to running my apps of choice didn't give me peace of mind. Also coming from the Windows OS side of things I felt that the MacOS is a bit less intuitive than Windows in some regards. For in Windows you can do a lot within the My Computer folder but I felt that the Finder tab in Mac was just not up to par. It felt like more work to dig through folders and vsti pathways to see if my expansions installed. The machine is of good build, looks attractive, has plently of accessory options, and may excell as a general everyday computer, not to mention it boots up with that nostalgic chime! At the moment though it does not play well with Cubase even through Rosetta. Also I failed to mention that the battery performance is really affected when running a midi keyboard and mouse through it. The fact that you need to plug in an extra adapter to even run the keyboard through USB A may drain even more power. In the end though I would recommed this computer to those who would use it for general everyday purposes. For people running Cubase or other music software I would be warry; you may be better of with a macbro pro (not sure though). At least until all apps are optimized for ARM. So sad that it didnt work out, really gave it a chance but in the end it just didn't work out. Returned it two days after purchase. Going with a Galaxybook Flex (we'll see how that goes)

Not for Sim 4 playing
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Loved the size and how easy to carry around but didn’t play the Sims 4 game at all and so with that this ended up not being the laptop for me. If you were just doing school work on it I can see it working great for that though.

No USB slots
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wish this computer had USB slots and other things that other computers have. I have tried to find an adapter to use with this computer to be able to connect my Iphone or USB cords, I can't find any that works - even the adapter the Apple has on Amazon. I am disappointed for that reason. I don't know how to make this computer compatible with other electronics.

From HP to MacBook 2021
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this during black friday 2021 because it was a good deal and my wife wanted a Mac. Don't care for the interface but that's because I'm not used to it. In order to plug your iphone into the Mac you have to purchase an extra adaptor cord. Major design flaw and makes it appear that apple is out to just gig you on more cords and adaptors. So far, the price for what you are getting doesn't really impress me. I would rather buy another HP or Dell. Save your money.

Should get more for the money
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It is great it’s an Apple product, but the screen resolution is only 720 and you cannot upgrade the storage so I’m stuck with 256 gb

New turbo tax software won't load to old apple com
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Buying the computer was easy. I paid forty dollars to have it set up so I could use turbo tax. Because of a software change by apple. A program called Rosetta must be used so apple could read the turbo tax file. I purchased the laptop on the condition thst I could do this years turbo tax. I was unable to do this as best buy's greeks originally aet it up. On my old apple laptop rosetta would come up but it was not able to load. When I went back later I asked to see a manager. I got one from the cell phone area. The greeks were too busy to help. I was ready to return the laptop since best buy had worked with it for three days. The greeks had suggested that my hot spot was to weak. As soon as I connected to the store hot spot the Rosetta program came up and it loaded in less than a minute. Immediately the turbo tax program loaded and Then I switched to my hot spot and it was good to go.

Use caution
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It's not great, camera graphics seem like they're from back in the 90s. Functions very well unless it heats up and it takes awhile for the black screen to go away. My daughter complains about it alot. Looks fabulous and movies are perfect!

Make Sure You Will Really Get Help When Needed
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Mac is a new product line for me...I was hesitant to try and learn to use an Apple product. It has been a steep learning curve since I only used HP PCs for twenty years. I would have very much appreciated having the salesman explain more to me before I bought it. I was very distressed when a Geek Squad tech did very little to help me with it---after the salesman who sold me the Mac assured me that Geek Squad would help with any questions I had.... It turned out that the Geek Squad tech had a VERY negative attitude toward Apple products and did NOT really want to help me learn my new MacBook Air.

Bring back HDMI ports!
||Posted . Owned for 9 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wish apple didn’t decide to do away with usb and hdmi ports on this model. Makes it much more difficult to pair with dual monitors.

Works good…wish I’d gotten the pro
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought it December 2020 Reviewing September 2021 …it was great until this month. It randomly crashes and I hardly have anything stored on it. I use for simple web surfing when I don’t want to use my desktop. If you plan on keeping this for a few years, I’d definitely go with a pro. Unless you’re doing heavy photo editing, etc etc, you won’t notice the difference in the beginning, but over time, you’ll begin to see this system slow down.

Not as good as I expected
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The macbook itself was awesome but honestly even with the M1 chip, it's a bit slow when you only have 8gb of ram. Definitely suggest getting the 16gb one.
