Two ports is not a professional machine.

How can Apple call this a PRO computer with only two ports, one of which is necessary for power? If you want to transfer between two external hard drives, you have to unplug the power from the wall or use a dongle which slows down transfer speeds. VERY POOR DESIGN. Apple, in it's supreme arrogance, has decided you don't need ports. Well, they are wrong. We do.

    Buyer Beware

I love it, I just wish it would do something. If you connect an iPhone or iPad it fries any apps that didn't come pre installed. If it sleeps it doesn't recognize external monitor when it wakes. it's hit and miss on reading external hard drives. It sees my printer but unable to see the scanner. I have a brother printer and a cannon. Plugged into usb or wireless. It won't scan with either one. It doesn't mean anything to me that it's fast. I have spent more time trouble shooting then I do anything productive. Several of the programs I used to use are not compatible with the M1 , It seem as though everyday I find something else I can't use this thin for. I had to get a windows computer in order to get anything done. I have been on a Mac for over 10 years and till I bought this one I loved my Mac. Now I can't stand it.

    8GB is embarassingly small

Just no. There is zero excuse for 8GB RAM in a “pro” laptop. Lightroom on its own will use up the entirety of it and the laptop constantly runs on swap memory. You will absolutely notice the lacking memory if you’re doing anything you couldn’t do on something like a surface go. Its a travesty that they’re pretending otherwise.

    Major Screen Issue

I bought this in May 2020 right after pandemic for my son's online school. It worked OK when it worked. After 1.5 years of use, all of sudden one perpendicular bar showed up on the right hand of screen, and one horizontal bar showed up on the bottom of the screen. It was annoying but still functional. After few days later, it does not turn on. I have bought few dozens of Apple product, but this mac book pro is by far the worst product I have ever bought. And, it is not only me. If you goole, you will find this issue is very common.

why buy an expensive apple computer

Just curious. If your main interest is to do word processing why buy an expensive apple computer and then add mircrosoft word? Why not buy a cheap windows computer and use word or libreoffice? You might like the quality or speed of the machine, but can do your work at less cost?

Cheap, falling apart after 4 years

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I bought this computer 4 years ago and it's already falling apart. The r and t keys are detached, and while I can still technically use them, I have to mash into them. As a student, this is defeats the entie purpose of owning a computer. Literally the only thing I need this thing to do is search the internet and allow me to write papers. The battery is also defective after only 4 years. The computer dies suddenly once it reaches ~50%, which takes about 20 mins. I truly despise windows, but I'm going to have to ge over it because I can't deal with this anymore.

    DO NOT BUY

Do not buy a Mac. A message to update popped up on mine so I clicked update. It got halfway through the process then locked up. Went through all the steps with tech support and nothing would work. Lost everything I had on the computer. Set it in to apple and they want $1000 to fix it. If apples update screws your computer up they will charge you to fix it. Racket

Need Dual Monitors Don't Bother it can't Handle It

If you are planning to use if for a home office, avoid it like the plague. For some reason Apple has designed to only to service one monitor instead of two, all this in the age of home office, using this thing make me feel like I am in 1998. Not a home office machine more for school or a toy.
