I can not compare this to the Mario Kart 8 that was for the Wii U since I never got it, and the last Mario Kart game I played was Double Dash, but this game was fun and can be challenging (well for me at least). I have played this on both the joy cons and the Pro Controller and I Think they both work well for this game.

Driver assists help even my soon to be 3 year old play this game. The Mario Kart franchise shines bright on the Switch with the updated version of Mario Kart 8. All characters are unlocked from the start but you will need to collect coins to unlock additional karts/bikes, tires, and gliders. Having a lot of fun with it.

Is it worth upgrading from the Wii U version? Probably not. However, it is a fantastic game to play with friends and family. The game supports local multiplayer with up to 4 players regardless of whether the Switch is docked or undocked. If you haven't purchased this game on the Wii U, then you should pick it up now!

Mario Kart 8 is the best kart racing game Nintendo has made in a long time. It strikes a careful balance between refining old ideas while introducing fresh new ones. Admittedly, its gorgeous graphics and jazzy orchestrated soundtrack bolster its presentation, but you’re getting a lot more than just looks with this one

This game has been out for years and it is still just as fun today. Looks good on the Switch and even better when connected to a TV. If you are looking for a family fun multiplayer game then this is it.

My kid is 8 and she is just starting to get into gaming, and this is a perfect game for us to play together. It's very reminiscent of older Mario Kart games. It has the same smooth controls and fun gameplay, but with very improved graphics. Get the wheels to put the joycons into, it increases the experience.

Such a fun game to play. The kids love to play all together. I don't like how every playable character in the game is basically equal. but then again it makes winning and losing mean nothing because anyone can win because of some unknown variable.

Continues to be a fun game as the new generation in the family plays. We also purchased the plastic wheel accessory which with 2 joycon sets, 4 players can play.

Great game with tons of tracks. Kids and I have a blast playing. Accessibility options like auto accelerate and auto steering correction.

I only really played the N64 Mario kart avidly. So my review will be based on that. I'm really into this game, really fun to play by yourself but way more fun to play in groups! I would say the definition of this game is amazing. The style of the courses and option for characters/design of vehicle is very thorough.

I own this game on the WiiU and wasn't sure if I would pick this up at full price for the Switch, but I'm glad I did. This game comes with all the DLC and the battle mode that wasn't available in the previous version. The new Splatoon characters are fun to play as well. If you own a Switch, definitely pick this one up!

When I was finally able to buy a switch mario kart was one of the games my family wanted to get. We are able to have 3 people play at once and when we get another controller it will be 4. We love playing this game with family and my kids also play online.

I have always enjoyed this game starting with the Wii, and this version did not disappoint! It’s visually dynamic and challenging…never gets boring! I bought this for my son and he loved it almost as much as me!

After purchasing the Nintendo Switch for the first time, Mario Cart was a must! My family of four has had an amazing time playing through the Grand Prix mode tackling races together to improve our skills. We have progressively gotten better and increased our level of play. Great game for the entire family.
