Definitely not worth the full price even with the open world element, it doesn't have enough to keep you playing over other titles unless this is the only game you intentionally want to keep playing.

Complete downgrade

The graphics couldn't be stepped up from Mario kart 8 because they needed to model all parts of the terrain, and the traversal sections to the track are super boring. Additionally, split screen multiplayer is horrendously choppy. Just so many baffling decisions. You're better off getting MK8.

Fun game and innovative

You can choose to race the tracks normally, travel from track to track in grand prix mode, or just drive around in free roam. There are lots of things to unlock.
