Silly and clever fun strategy game for kids

This is one of most odd combination of gaming franchises, Mario and Rabbids, but it turns out to make a witty and fun strategy game. The turn based battles are fun and simple to play while respecting the player's ability to overcome a variety of obstacles. There's even an easy mode where you play a level with more health. The only con is that the stuff between battles is quite boring. If anything, the battle portion and the witty humor will take up most of your attention anyways. Only recommended for patient gamers who's willing to learn from their mistakes and not be upset when they have to retry a level.

This game is a huge departure from the normal platforming mechanics Mario fans are accustomed to; its turn-based combat mechanics are strongly influenced by the likes of X-Com (in fact, UbiSoft tried to get X-Com's lead developer to help with making it). That said, it's a very fun game that clearly shows a love for the source material even though the Rabbids themselves are as irreverent as ever. It's a bizarre mix in a lot of ways, but entertaining and often genuinely humorous (a full-on operetta by a boss during the game dedicated to Mario is a highlight), and some of the maps do offer a decent challenge for strategy enthusiasts. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is that there's a lot of "re-skinned" enemies across the different Worlds (of which there are currently only four pending any DLC from the upcoming Season Pass content), and the combat maps, while good overall, start to feel a bit repetitive mechanically after awhile.

As a Nintendo fanboy, I was hesitant that this game was going to be good, given UbiSoft's hit-and-miss track record of their games. To my surprise, it is a game that I can get immersed in for several hours at a time before I need to take a break from it. It is a strategy game that starts off pretty easy to ramps up to relatively challenging as you make further progress. It's never 'throw your controller across the room' difficult, but at times I have had to restart a match two or three times. Overall, if you like Mario and want something that not a platformer or kart racing game, then this one is worth a shot.

My husband and I originally bought the Nintendo Switch for the nostalgia factor, but our 4-year-old has fallen in love too! As simple as it may look, there is some strategy to the game as well, so it's great for everyone!

This is the first Switch game that I got really into with over 40 hours of gameplay. It was slow at the start, but it is worth it to keep going. I was on a mission to find Yoshi! I would recommend this game for all ages.

I loved this game. This is a pretty good XCOM clone. The game is actually very challenging and a ton of fun. I loved having Mario and friends cooperate with the Rabbis. The DLC was a pretty good deal for the price. This game is a must own for your Switch collection.

This game was going to be one I passed on when I originally heard about it. After watching trailers and seeing reviews, though, I picked it up. It’s a great strategy game with a soft difficulty curve. My only problem is that there wasn’t a lot of replayability.

This was a game I never saw coming and has surprised me at every turn. Not only is it a GOOD game with Rabbids in it, but it's a beautiful Mario Strategy game. It's about time Ubisoft put something different out.

I love Mario but loathe those annoying Rabbids. However, this is a very well thought out & fun strategy game. It might be a bit difficult for younger players but overall is a fair challenge, everyone loves it!

Very fun game I love Mario games and I have also played rabbids games which are just as fun so mixing the both with a different style of game play makes it that much more fun. I also love that you can coop play.

Quite possibly one of the most out of nowhere releases of the year. This game is a great strategy game and will keep you playing for hours on end. Recommended to Switch owners looking for something different.

What can I say about this strange game? A turn-based tactical strategy game starring an unholy blend of Ubisoft & Nintendo properties shouldn't work, but it does, & it does it really well. I can't really explain the surreal feeling I had when I saw Mario pick up a gun for the first time. This is (probably) the closest thing to an XCOM game we'll get on the Switch, & I'm okay with that (I'm pretending Fire Emblem doesn't exist for this part of the review, because I'm really trying to gas this game up). Peach is so B.A. in this (we love to see it), & the bosses were really fun. Some genuine laugh out loud moments in here, if not just from occasionally remembering the absurdity of it all while you're playing it. I'm just really glad that Ubisoft came up with this & that Nintendo actually let them make it. It never got repetitive for me, but I am a big fan of turn-based tactical strategy games like this, so your own results may vary. My main complaints are the controls in the overworld/out-of-battle areas are a little weird to get used to, & the lack of online play. I'm imagining a sequel with full online multiplayer battles & a stage editor a-la Mario Maker & Smash with shareable levels. A dream! A literal DREAM! If you like XCOM & you have a Switch, this is a no-brainer. If you've never played a turn-based strategy game, but you think you might be interested in the genre, this is a great way to get your feet wet before diving into the deep end with Fire Emblem: Three Houses chained to your ankles.
