Why make players wait for 2-player mode?

It's a worthy purchase and can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. But it's a stupid decision to make players beat a world before allowing 2 player mode. I had company for the weekend, and i picked this up thinking we could play together. Nope--have to play single player only. Lame move. -1 star.
