Fun but lacking content
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So first and foremost this is a game best played if you have friends or children that will play with you. The single player content is lacking and is completed within a couple hours of owning the game. The online multiplayer has tournaments which are fun but get boring if that’s all your doing all the time. I’m sure in the future they will drop more patches to add quality of life improvements to the game so I would recommend this game.

Family gaming at its best
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Mario Tennis Aces is currently our game of choice for family gaming. Controls are simple yet satisfying and matches can be intense. It's fun to try all of the different characters as they each have their own style of play and power shots. Graphics are great with bright colors and realistic textures. We haven't had the opportunity to try the story mode because every time you turn on the game everyone wants to play.

A great entry in a long running series
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was very excited to hear the next Mario Tennis was being developed by Camelot and would have a single player mode. Mario Tennis Aces is a wonderfully crafted game that has added a lot to the game to prevent the Mario Tennis series from becoming stale. The new meter building and the shots that come with it are a fantastic mechanic. Racket breaking however is something I’m on the fence on. It can be used to win and takes away from the overall experience imo. The story mode is really fun but feels like an extended tutorial for the most part. The challenge isn’t all skill based due to the fact there are distractions and obstacles on the courts and the AI knows how to use that to their advantage strongly in some cases. The boss fights are really well done and are challenging but enjoyable. The real longevity in the game comes in the form of the online tournaments. These serve as the way to get new characters as they release and is enjoyable to play against other human opponents. Overall I think Mario Tennis Aces is a fantastic entry with a well done story mode and the addition of tournament was the spark needed for the series.

A return to form for Mario Sports games
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been playing Mario Tennis games since I was a child with a N64 and have always held a spot in my heard for them. When I found out about this games release, I felt very positive the game would turn out well. Well... I think it was a pretty decent step in the right direction. Game play is as fun as ever and online play is addicting. Only part that's fairly negative is the single player experience is lacking a little, but it's overshadowed by the multiplayer. Great game overall

Buy for Multiplayer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was a big fan of the Mario Tennis games on N64 and GBC, especially the RPG elements of the latter. The single-player portion of this game really doesn't compare, functioning mostly as an extended tutorial with very minor RPG elements. That being said, multiplayer is great fun, especially if you're able to get some local doubles matches in. The online tournament modes will likely make or break enjoyment of this game for most people. Standard mode incorporates the energy gauge and trick shots. It wasn't very balanced for the first month after release, as Bowser Jr. could basically return anything at max charge and trick shots were easily spammable recovery moves, resulting in long drawn-out matches. I was ranked in the top 100 for most of this first month before dropping standard mode entirely as I grew tired of it. Nintendo patched the game last week to supposedly address both of the points mentioned above, so now may be the best time to try Standard tournaments. If you enjoy a simulation of regular tennis, Simple mode provides a more even experience (in my opinion at least). However, it is much easier to find a game in Standard, as I've had to wait several minutes before for matchmaking in Simple. Standard definitely has more of an arcade-y/fighting game feel to it, so I wouldn't recommend Simple mode if you don't enjoy tennis by itself. If you're able to try the game out and enjoy the gameplay mechanics for what they are, I think you'll find it worth your time. Nintendo seems to be willing to patch online multiplayer based on player feedback, which is a good sign. Hopefully this support continues after they've finished releasing all the characters.

Competetive, for better or worse
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Aces is a fun, yet competetive game, that really does shine when it comes to multiplayer. At it's base, it's tennis, and just like the actual sport, can become very heated due to its competetive nature and learning curve. While tying to remain casual and fun, some of the features added can, at times, feel counterintuitive for what the game strives to be, adding mechanics like special meters, moves, slow mo and meter enhanced shots, the game while trying to be casual at its core and yet openly competetive can be infuriating to newer players, or in cases where players are of different skill levels. A little skill goes a long way, for better or for worse, and in my experience, it becomes a game about momentum. Single player is extremely lacking and multiplayer is while fun much of the same, the recent addition of co-op missions is welcome, however, and the option to play by swinging a joycon, while novel, seems gimmicky, but that is just my opinion. In all, while the game can be enjoyable, I am hesitant to recommend it. If it's a game you can get into, then I'm sure you'll love it, but I'd recommend trying it first before you buy through a friend or store demo, or look to get it on sale.

Mario Kart with Tennis lol
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is just plan fun. Its a fun game with depth competitive game play. Single player is there for show but this game similar to Mario Kart 8 its best features is the fun competition against friends and family. You will jump when you win and yell when you lose. This game takes you there. It would be perfect if more is added such as custmization and more courts with suprising characters. But fun equals wanting more.

Great Multiplayer, Mediocre Single-Player
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The actual gameplay is really fun. The multiplayer is exciting and more complex than you’d expect. There are online tournaments to compete in and new characters to unlock. I was a little disappointed with the single player modes, though. Make sure you download all the updates before playing it, because they fixed a lot of small things. Don't buy at $60... i'd say a good value around $40.

Great game
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Mario Tennis Aces is like a fighting game. Every move can be countered with another move, and a rally can go on for minutes if you play your cards right. Mechanically, it's the best Mario Tennis has offered. Content, however, is still light. Adventure Mode only takes a few hours to complete. The rest of the longevity comes from playing online or with friends. Recommended if you like online or have friends.

Super fun and addicting
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Would definitely recommend this to my friends. Never owned any type of tennis game but this game was easy to pick up but hard to get great at. Graphics and controls work fluidly, great couch game or online play with a friend. I never played other mario tennis games and can't compare but I personally really enjoyed this game

Intense and Fun!
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game starts out simple and can be played by anyone, but also teaches you advanced techniques for more experienced and competitive players. The 4 player mode is also wildly entertaining and this is a must have party game for switch owners!

Solid overall but lacking full potential
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game plays great and looks great. The online tournaments are fantastic but the single player is pretty much one long tutorial on how to play. This game has all the potential to be even better but just doesn’t fully execute. It’s hard to justify it as a $60 title simply because there isn’t a lot there - especially if you have no or dodgy internet connection. Still a lot of fun though.

Arcade Tennis at Its Best!!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Mario Tennis Aces is just an overall fun game to play, with one caveat. It's fun with friends. It is best played with a group of friends as couch co-op/tournament style. There is a single player mode that is required to be played in order to unlock more courts, but it is not as very developed as I would've liked for it to be. Overall this is the best arcade style tennis game out there!

Great game!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an incredibly fun and surprisingly deep tennis game. It is arcadey, but there is a lot of nuance to different types of shots and abilities, and character differences. I've had a blast playing, but it is also surprisingly difficult! I don't mind it too much but I'm struggled to get through a lot of challenges -- which isn't a bad thing. It can be very fun to play with others

Fun but Lacking Content
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the best Mario Tennis game since the Gamecube era, but that isn't saying much. It's a lot of fun to play and includes some nice new gameplay mechanics that add to the craziness you would expect out of a Mario sports title. It's great to see a story mode added back into the game (though it always should have been a part of the experience), it's just a shame it's a little underwhelming. I enjoyed it, but it was too short and lacked the variety you would expect from a Nintendo title. It just could have been fleshed out more and would have benefited from more depth. Online play is consistently laggy with peer to peer connections and combined with Nintendo's lackluster new paid online "service," is a huge disappointment, despite the awesome tournament mode. Overall, I felt like there just wasn't enough to do or unlock in the game, even if there was fun to be had against friends and other competitors. More courts/modes would have gone a long way considering this is a $60 product. It's a step in the right direction, but solid at best.

Another Homerun from Nintendo
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is such a fun game. If you liked the Nintendo 64 version of Mario Tennis, then you are going to love Mario Tennis Aces! They made this game so much better, smoother and a lot more fun with the new mechanics. Easy to pick up, even for the novice players. Lots of characters, courts and game features.

A little challenging
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This game is a wonderful addition to the Mario/Nintendo sports games they’ve done over the years. This game is definitely challenging though. Learning the shots and skills are vital to winning this game. It can be frustrating at times, but it is still fun! If you can get this when it’s on sale, it’s worth it. I don’t feel that the $60 they are asking is worth it.
