    Great HE Washer

Read reviews from Best Buy, Consumer Reports, you name it for this machine. They are so mixed that I wanted to give my review. We have had it for several days now. Wanted to wait until we used it a couple of times and played around with all of the settings. I have to say I don't know where the negative reviews are coming from unless people are expecting this HE to perform like the older machines. We replaced an older agitator style washer with this one. At first it was scary. Thought we had made the biggest mistake. But after reading the manual (you must read the manual), we both are impressed with it. It does indeed use much less water and you think the clothes are not wet enough, but it gets the job done. There are settings to use to use more water. My son plays baseball with his church league and as you can imagine his uniform pants get really dirty. Did not think the dirt would come out and the pants looking like new but they did. We used the power wash cycle on these. We also believe that a good quality detergent like Persil makes a difference. Those that are writing negative reviews have not taken the time to read the manual. We have the page with all of the wash cycles taped to the wall behind the washer. Now as far as quality, only time will tell. I do not expect it to last as long as the older machine did. Nothing these days does. The new ones have so many sensors even though this one has the rotary dials. So that is our opinion of this washer. We love it so far.

    Just Doesn't Work

    Posted .

I bought this washer 1/18/16 when our old washer stopped working. I was really optimistic about it at first. I liked how it would sense the level of laundry in the washer and adjust the water level accordingly. I think in theory it's probably a really efficient washer. The problem is it just randomly stops working mid-cycle and won't do anything. Some loads go through fine, some it just hangs up and doesn't do anything. When this happens all we can do is unplug the washer for 1/2 hour or so, then plug it back it, run the spin and rinse cycle, and then start over. I tried scheduling a repair on the Maytag website and am not able to, just get a message that it can't be completed at this time. I'm really bummed out that I spent so much money on a washer and the only way I can get a load of laundry done is to go to the laundry mat. If you want a washer that doesn't use a lot of water, well, this is for you because it just doesn't work. If you want a washer that actually does its job, look elsewhere.

Overall. The washer does its job and does it well. BUT. I do have a few complaints. First off. It is very LOUD. Makes all kinds of weird noises. I have never heard a washer make the noises this thing does. The other issue. It likes to take walks all by its lonesome every so often. We even had them come out to make sure it was balanced properly. Checked out fine. So it is not a balancing issue. When it comes down to the last spin. It spins EXTREMELY FAST. I am convinced that is what throws it off every so often and from how ever the clothes etc decide to shift while spinning at such a high rate. Those are honestly my only 2 cons with it. The rest. FANTASTIC! It always gets everything nice and clean!

Our 28 year old Maytag top load agitator type washer finally had to be replaced. One stipulation my wife had was the new washer had to be a top loader. So we did our research and it came down to this HE Maytag or a "retro" Whirlpool with a standard agitator action. After 2 months of use she is very happy with this machine. Yes, it is different but if you follow the instructions in the user manual, it will do an excellent job cleaning your laundry. And, yes, it sounds different but is not louder than our old Matag washer.

Good washer - no issues so far

Replaced my old Maytag after 20 years of service (started to leak a little). I picked this one because I wanted to have the least electronics and fancy screens (electronics and water are not a good mix). This washer is is bigger than the old one (although takes up less space for some reason). Tried different loads and they all came out OK - better than the old washer (especially the spin cycle seems to extract more water now so the clothes are dryer at the end of the cycle). I saw some complaints about water level - i think it's OK, sometimes I just put the deep water option. It's rather quiet. For sure more quiet than the old one but can't compare to other models. For sure noise will not bother most of the people. I really don't know where the negative reviews come from. Quite happy with it, just hope it could last as long as the old one (I'm almost sure it won't...)

I read the reviews and listened to the sales person. Here's what I gathered. It's noisy- it is but it's in the basement so not a problem. Clothes have dry spots- sales person told me that Maytag/Whirlpool are notorious for low water. Use the deep water wash. Doesn't get clothe clean- mine are clean. Takes too long to wash clothes- it's a whole lot faster than the Samsung it replaced. There are only two adults in the home so our washing needs are not as great as they were 20 years ago. This washer, for the price, is a good washer.

Terrible experience with Best Buy- not happy with

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

Either something is wrong with this machine or the new non-agitator HE washing machines are severely flawed. I can only get it to fill the tub when I put it on bulky sheets extreme soil in Coldwater. If you do a full load It does not agitate the clothes around with barely water on all of the other settings. I Had a terrible experience with trying to get somebody to come and look at it I was on the phone for two hours the first time and I was hung up on several times and I thought I had made an appointment and that was never made. Then another one was rescheduled without even asking us about it. My plan is to return the machine and get all of my money back and I’m going to buy a different washing machine which has an agitator at another store. This washing machine which is a Speed Queen, fills the tub each time and only takes half an hour to clean. This Maytag cannot possibly be efficient because it takes two hours to clean anything if you put it on the setting where the tub will actually get filled with water. Even on all of the other settings where it barely puts any water in it takes almost 2 hours to clean anything and it’s quite noisy. This has to be hard on the clothes. I like the large size of the tub and I like the glass see-through top I so wanted this machine to work but everything so far has been terrible. the worst was the experience with Best Buy. Who I have never purchased a major appliance from in the past. I wrote a more detailed review which is not been published and I’m wondering if this one is going to be published or if Best Buy will not print anything that criticizes them and the products. What I experienced with this purchase really should never happen to anyone- being hung up on multiple times, confusion, mixed stories, people coming to the house who have no idea how to install something so we had to pay a plumber $250 prior r to the dishwasher install which was supposed to be done on the same day as the washing machine. And then when we went to the store one of the supervisors was quite rude to myself and my father- this is just not acceptable. I read now that these new machines don’t put any water in due to regulations and people are actually putting extra water in themselves. Well I am not going to do that! I’m going to buy my Speed Queen- something which is comparable to and far better in quality than the GE profile that we had for 15 years before this Maytag. I was told to expect it to last 25 years with normal use. It’s a commercial machine but made also for homes. Yes you can still get a non HE washing machine thank god. I wish I had researched all of this in advance so I could have avoided all this stress and wasted time.

Hi Anon, The low water design is actually part of the washer design. You will need to adjust your loading, sorting and cycle selections to produce the best results. Great Washing Machine for a Great Price

Bought this washer to replace the 20 year old Kenmore we lost in a flood. Love the simplicity of the buttons and how big the tub is. Also I really like the clear glass top so I'm able to see what's going on in there. Gets clothes clean and smelling good. Be sure to READ the instructions BEFORE using the machine. Many other reviews claim residue left on clothes from detergent or fabric softener, just add a second rinse and voila! Clothes are free of spots. Like I said, great machine for a great price. Totally recommended this Maytag

An Affordable Introduction to HE Washing Machines

I decided to purchase a new washer and dryer when my old dryer died unexpectedly. After several days of reading reviews and comparison shopping, I ultimately chose this HE washing machine due to price and the available delivery time. While there is a small learning curve when upgrading from the old school washers with an agitator in the center of the drum, it's nothing which can't be overcome by looking at the very simple chart supplied in the owner's manual. (I haven't needed to refer to the chart since my initial 2-3 loads of laundry.) I have a family of four and this unit has done an excellent job in cleaning everything I've thrown at it, including queen size comforters. This is an attractive, cost effective machine and I am very satisfied with my purchase.

I love my new washer. It is big enough to wash my comforters and then some. I love that it doesn't have an agitator in the middle so clothes don't get wrapped up. The only reason I didn't give it 5 starts is it sometimes doesn't wring the water out all the way so clothes are still left dripping.

One week after washing much better than my Samsung front load, it stopped mid cycle with no lights on, no sound, and nothing I did could restart it. Of course this happened on a weekend with no support. Four hours later it starts where it left off and finished load. Jump ahead one more month and it has done it again, and yes it is on Saturday!! No suds, HE detergent, small load, and I am not happy because the wife isn't happy. Maytag is not living up to expectation so far. I would not recommend at this time. That depends on maytags response.

Only lasted barely 5 years, current repairs about the cost of a new one. When it ran, it cleaned well - too many plastic parts where there should have been metal. If you purchase this, get the 5 year protection plan for it.

I was a little nervous after reading some of the reviews, but I will have to say - I haven't experienced any issues, everything has worked perfectly. Had free delivery and installation. As soon as it was hooked up, I read the instructions and did 6 loads of laundry, in the time I would have done 2 or 3 in my old units. I can get all of my laundry done in just a few hours with this unit and the matching electric dryer (which I love as well BTW). I will say, the first time I used a setting, I did get some loud noises, but it hasn't happened since, I think it was just "breaking in" the setting type of thing. I haven't had any issues of not having enough water to wash the clothes, all the clothes come out "wet". Spin cycle works great and have washed small to large loads of towels, just fine. I've had this unit for about 3 weeks now and I still stand and watch through the glass top as it washers.

The unit is large enough to accommodate a king sized fleece blanket that we typically wash by itself. Not having the central agitator makes a big difference...our towels and pants aren't getting ripped to shreds from getting stuck around the hunk of plastic.

I should have paid more attention to bad reviews

I am only giving a whole star because the washer does turn on and water flows in. Not ENOUGH water, but some. I totally agree with Jennifer's review; I have the exact same issues. Not enough water, sometimes even on the bulky-sheets level, laundry doesn't all get wet, THINGS DON'T GET CLEAN! I washed a small rug my dog had peed a tiny amount on. It still smelled at the end of the cycle. the salesperson really pushed this model, telling me my old washer, with its agitator, was outdated and no longer popular. Yeah, BUT IT CLEANED THE LAUNDRY. I hate this washer. I have to re-spin and drain frequently. I add the recommended amount of soap and see no suds whatsoever. If you go a tablespoon over, you have to re-rinse because there's too MANY suds. I have never been disappointed with a washer before. I don't ask much; I have always bought scratch-and-dent and/or floor models, I'm not snobby, I just want clean laundry. That isn't happeneing. I loathe this washer. I am telling everyone I know how awful it is. This is completely aside from the delivery experience, which was a nightmare. Never again.
