Customers are saying

Customers are positive about the 4.7 Cu. Ft. Top Load Washer's cleaning performance, large capacity, quiet operation, and ease of use, with many praising the agitator and effective spin cycle. However, some customers have expressed concerns regarding the washer's reliability and the lid lock feature, citing instances of early malfunctions and inconvenience. The large tub size is also frequently mentioned as a positive. Overall, positive feedback significantly outweighs negative comments.

Before you use this machine, you must read about and understand the setting options. The frustrating part of HE washing machines is having clothes swish around in 2 inches of water (getting tangled and torn with the agitator). HE washers use the friction caused by the clothes rubbing together in a puddle to clean them (vs. using a reasonable tub of water). They end up soapy, requiring extra rinses (and defeating the goal of using less water). The "Deep Fill" option doesn't provide much more water in settings like "Normal". To bypass these problems ( ruining clothes and having to do extra rinses), use the "Delicate" or "Bedding" settings with the Deep Fill option. You'll use more water during the wash, but won't need an extra rinse. The Bedding setting also has a higher level of water in the rinse setting. There will still be a low level of water in the first few minutes of these cycles (I believe this is when the soap is mixed with the water). More water is added during the wash cycle. Since there's a glass top, you can see what goes on during the cycle. If you use the normal, rapid, or power wash cycles, I'd recommend wetting the clothes first so the sensor senses more weight and adds more water. Always do an extra rinse for these cycles. I found these cycles to be pretty rough on the clothes. Some commented that there is no "Rinse and Spin" option since there isn't an explicit setting on the machine. As per the manual, you can do "Rinse and Spin" by choosing "Drain and Spin" on the dial AND pressing the "Extra Rinse" option. As others have noted, the drawer for soap and softener is flimsy, and needs to have water dumped out of it after every wash. Terrible design. I don't think there's a workhorse, reliable machine out there like the old basic agitators, but this Maytag is good if you stick to the Bedding and Delicate cycles. Hope it lasts more than the 4 years I got out of the last "Commercial Technology" Maytag!

Maxwell, we thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you are unhappy with the design of your Maytag® Washer. The U.S. Department of Energy requires all new Washers use less energy than the Washer you previously had which means your new Washer will run longer, but it is not using as much energy. We will be sure to document your comments in the appropriate manner. MaytagBrand

Hurray! A deep water wash and rinse.

We gave away a perfectly good FRONT LOAD washer to purchase this Maytag TOP LOAD machine. Why? Because we felt just flopping cloths back and forth in a puddle of water didn't provide the cleaning and, most of all, the through rinsing we desired. Well, we're delighted since this Maytag washer has deep wash and deep rinse capabilities just like the top loaders did years ago before the machine manufacturers decided they needed to control our water usage, For most loads just selecting the DEEP FILL option will give you decent (but not fully deep)water depth. But for maximum depth ( almost to the top of the agitator) you must select both DEEP FILL and BEDDING options. This is perfect for washing large loads but also the insure complete and through rinsing of soaps and bleaches from smaller loads.

The washer leaves a strange greyish residue on clothing. After following several suggestions from Maytag customer service (clean the machine, use less detergent, etc) the residue persists. I am extremely disappointed that a "WASHING" machine leaves clothing dirty.

The agitator ate a pillow case 2 days after delivery. Geek squad said that they will not come out to help me. I need to cut it out. There isn't enough pillow case to cut to get it out of the agitator. Going to return this piece of junk and NOT purchase from Best Buy again.

    So far, it's great

I purchased a Maytag front loader in 2010, and couldn't have had a worse experience. Shirts and towels would stink when damp, the machine needed regular repairs, and it accumulated significant amounts of black mold in the door seal (in spite of leaving the door open and using Affresh). In other words, it exhibited all of the hallmarks of a typical front load washer. I swore I'd go to a front loader when I got the chance. Sure enough, the front loader broke down again and this time I went to the Best Buy site to shop for a new machine, rather than get the old one working to its usual sub-standard level. Because of the stellar reviews on this model, I decided to give Maytag a second chance. Well, so far, so good. It looks really nice, and seems to work like a real washer should.. Towels finally smell clean after 7 years. Most users may shy away from customizing the settings, but if you aren't afraid of that you will really be able to tailor each cycle to your liking. The deep fill option is a plus. The basin is big. Unless something suddenly changes, I definitely recommend this machine.

Good Washer - Horrible Mfr. Customer Service

Great washer - at least for a month. Then it broke. Parts needed to fix. Maytag WILL NOT (not cannot) replace the washer, even after not being able to provide an updated status because they have to let the parts department try to find the parts for two weeks. I asked if the part could be shipped overnight, Customer Service said that the system CANNOT allow them to ship overnight. Next supervisor I talked to said that it was their CHOICE to NOT ship parts overnight. I was advised to buy Maytag because of the quality of the product, and the service behind the Maytag brand. All I got when I called was a bunch of canned answers and inability to go the extra mile. Its not even the fact that the washer broke after a month (although it would be great to have a working washer) - its all about the customer service. Initially, the online help and ability to schedule the service was great. Doing everything online was great. Just don't ever call them for assistance. In closing, the product itself is great when it works. The rating reflects the product not the manufacturer's customer service

    Excellent Washer

Our old washer was beginning to die so we began looking for our next one. We did not hear good things about the newer washers without agitators. They just did not clean large loads well. My wife wanted one with an agitator and with 5 members of our family we needed a bigger one. The Maytag 4.7 was the biggest with an agitator we could find. The retail price was a little high for us but when the day came we needed one, we were lucky enough to fine one out of the box with only cosmetic damage. We have only had it for 3 days but it is everything and more we could of dreamed of. It holds a lot and cleans great. I read some reviews about noise. It is SO quiet. It really is more then we could have hoped for.

Where do I start, understanding the setting was our first challenge. After playing with them a few loads we started to understand the setting. Be patient. My other half still doesn't like it because it doesn't agitate like the old school washers. She is slowly coming around to accepting that this washer and is here to stay. It cleans the close well and I haven't had any issues with residue after understanding the settings.

Did a lot of research before buying the Maytag 765 washer. I am so pleased with this machine! I wash clothes daily - this machine is responsive and washes very well. Five favorite features are the glass lid to see what's happening, the musical tone signaling done cycle, ability to truly customize cycles, the lid can be instantly unlocked at the press of a button and it is a large capacity yet not too deep to reach the bottom. I am a real customer and this is an honest review. I very much recommend this washing machine.

We snagged this washer on sale to replace a malfunctioning washer from another manufacturer. It’s been only a short time, but we are very pleased with this unit so far. It is much quieter in comparison, even during the spin cycle, we barely hear it. It stays on balance, with very little vibration. It hasn’t moved at all; whereas, our previous washer would move around as much as a foot across the floor (blocking the laundry room door) from all the vibrations during spin cycle. My only complaints are that the wash cycles seem a bit long, and that this particular product isn’t energy star. But the laundry gets cleaned effectively, with little noise, little vibration and thus far, no anguish.

    MVWB765FW3

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

MODEL MVWB765FW3, purchased May 25, 2019: If I could have rated this washer ZERO, I would have. We thought the new feature of sensing the load size would be more effective in cleaning and rinsing the clothes, along with saving some water. That isn’t the case! It senses the weight of the load and saves tons of water. After some time passed, I developed severe itching and rashes on all parts of my body. I do not have allergies. I first tried using less detergent. That didn’t help. Then I stood and watched every fill cycle and rinse cycle. The sensing feature did not provide enough water in the wash or the rinse cycle to allow the clothes to freely agitate in the water, therefore, the detergent was not being totally rinsed away. Many of the clothes were sticking out of the water during both cycles. Granted, the clothes above the water line were damp - only because of the fill water spraying on them and the clothes below the water line leeching water upwards into the dry parts of clothing. Of course, this all was noticed after I could return the washer. Compare taking a bath with two inches of water versus twelve inches of water, or rinsing your body with one cup of water versus one gallon of water. I’ve tried the bedding cycle and deep fill cycle. It still doesn’t provide ample water. The tub is HUGE! One would think you could wash more clothes, if needed. Not the case. You will never see this washer fill to half full, no matter what you’re washing. Beware of washers that use the sensing feature and don’t allow YOU to determine how much water to use.

    So sorry I bought it.

I've had this washer for more than a year now. After suffering through poor performance and the terrible odor of a front loader, I was certain that I wanted a new top-loading washer with an agitator. So far it's been a major disappointment. The incredibly skimpy amount of water cannot begin to wash or rinse a full load, or even a half-load of laundry. My laundry routinely comes out with the same spots and stains it went in there with. Of course, that's in addition to the detergent sediment the washer leaves on the clothes. I routinely use bleach on my white loads, and always have, with no trouble. But since this washer is incapable of rinsing clothes properly, it leaves bleach residue in the drum, so you have to be very cautious about the laundry load with which you follow a bleach-load. I have to always follow my bleach-loads with some kind of light colors or "junk" clothing about which I won't get upset if they are ruined by the remaining bleach residue. This is the first washer I've ever had where I had to be concerned about the order in which I did the loads; generally I do my black clothes last, hoping that the previous loads washed away any bleach residue from the drum. What prompted me to write this review after already having the machine for a length of time, is that I just got a view of my washer attempting to rinse a full-size comforter that I had in there. I had it set on "deep fill" (translation: 14" of water--or, the drum roughly only half-full). However, since it was now on the rinse cycle, the thing had reverted back to using however much water it wanted to, and in this case it was probably five or six inches, and some of the comforter was sitting well above the water. Keep this important fact in mind if you are considering this washer: the "deep fill" option only applies to the wash cycle. When the washer goes into rinse-phase, the "deep fill" goes out the window, and you only get a small sample of water again! So there sat my comforter, dispersed around the agitator, which was glancing back and forth against the inner portion of the comforter where it touched against it. The agitator was moving, but it was moving almost entirely independent of the comforter! The comforter, however, sat stock still, stuck in a big wet pile to the bottom of the drum, in it's five inches of water--inadequate to allow the comforter to move about or do even the smallest amount of rinsing. The agitator continued on, in it's own world, until the washer went into spin mode, and spun out some of the unrinsed soap suds and dirty water. I cannot begin to describe how angry I am at being duped into buying this washing machine. Of course, it's long past the time when I could take it back to the store, and I can't call a repairman to fix the crappy performance, because a crappy performance is exactly what it was designed to give, so technically it's not broken. I am going to find a way to sell or dump this almost-new machine, go back to a front loading washer, and cut my losses.

Died After 3.5 Years and $500 to Repair It

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

We had this machine for 3 1/2 years and liked it very much. Only complaint my wife had was that the water level was too low even when you put it on "deep fill." However, after 3 1/2 years it stopped working. Repairman replaced the motherboard, but that wasn't it. So he said it's likely the top panel with the buttons but repair was going to be almost $500 just for that part. I decided to buy a different Maytag machine (MED6230HW) to replace this one. Had it for 2 days & returned it. It was more cheaply made & continued to spin clothes to one side & then stop because it was unbalanced. I returned it. Was going to buy this exact model again (MVWB765FW)...but now I'm on the fence after reading the most recent reviews and issues. Doesn't Maytag make a decent washer anymore?
