Installed easy, works as advertised.
I was concerned about other folks reviews saying it burned out easily but so far so good. The instructions do advise that you keep off when not in use.
Its been a month or so w/ no issues

Really can't complain about this DVR for the price. It records to an external hard drive very well. There are a couple of drawbacks though, once you pause a movie on live tv and start replaying it if you reach the live version of the movie it won't back up and the remote isn't laid out very well.

A good personal free no monthly fee DVR Recorder. Records perfectly from TVs and can only be use with hard drives/ USBs that are less than 1TB space or less.

I have my converter hooked up to my HD set set with an HDMI cable and to an older set which sits by my computer with a coax cable . This way I can watch one show using the tuner of my HD set while I record another show to a flash drive connected to the converter box. I have two antennas but I am sure a splitter would work for this
The learning curve for the recording setting took a while but once I got used to them I can do by the light of the TV,

I bought this as a gift. The recipient was very happy to receive it. This is a subscription free DVR, which I could not find prior to this product. The only "but" on the good review is that you have to buy external memory. It does not come with internal memory.

Easy setup, programming and decent pictures. The components video saves the only HDMI on the old TV for the blue-ray player. The reason of 4 stars? An old model from the same brand lasted less than 3 years.

I bought this for the DVR function, which works fine after figuring out how to use it. The remote’s features aren’t the best and the neither is the software. But its an inexpensive DVR for OTA.

I bought this TV Converter Box a couple of months ago because I cut the cable and I was looking for a recorder with which I could record over the air TV. Can't beat the price and the quality of the recording is very good, I don't miss a program anymore.
It has a downfall and it is that I can not watch another channel while it is recording, I have to watch it at another TV but, if you can live with that it is a great item. I record the programs on an external Hardrive that I connect to the USB out-put to watch it later.

Purchased this dvr to record some shows on local channels we were not getting on Sling tv.
It works perfectly and we attached an external drive and works seamlessly. Its easy to use. We programmed it to record every day at same time and channel. It works kind of like the old vhs recorders. Very easy to do.
Very happy with it and it definitely solved our issue to record off air channela we were not getting on Sling tv.
Value for money!
Love it!

Good basic OTA box

This is a very basic OTA (over the air) box. It says "with DVR", but that is only after you add a storage device. We added a 1TB hard-drive which added about $90 to the total cost. Although there is an electronic program guide to help identify shows, when you record it only shows the station and date of the recording (no program/show name when looking at the recordings for playback). The remote control works, but it's layout is an absolute joke. For example, the "play" and "pause" buttons are just that - round buttons in a field of 12 buttons, not even next to each other. It's hard to find when compared to the triangle button found on most remote controls.
Now for the positives. It works as advertised. The lack of a fancy electronic guide can be a plus or minus - just that; plus because there's no added subscription cost and minus because a guide would make it easier to find programs several days in advance. We have weak internet and this only OTA box I found that does not feed the recordings back to your TV through WiFi. It uses a HDMI cable. This will also enable us to use it in our travel trailer (since most RV parks have bad WiFi).
If they fixed the remote control I would give it 5 stars.

I waited a few months to really test the operation of this unit before I reviewed it.
Basically, it does what it's supposed to do. The image quality of the recorded OTA broadcasts is excellent, and can be preset to whatever resolution you prefer — 1080 for top quality, 720 for good quality but much smaller file size(s), 480 for lowest quality of all (equivalent to what used to be called "standard broadcast").
There are some idiosyncrasies that kept me from giving it 5 stars. The most concerning one is that after you've programmed in some dates & times to record, if you don't turn off the box and then turn it on again, it doesn't always record the program(s). This is a nuisance, especially if you're in a hurry.
The remote control and menu options could be improved, as well.
All things considered, it's a pretty simple device, and MUCH better than another brand (ematic) I once purchased.

Somewhat awkward to program shows. I wish it were simpler to operate. No clock setting, it only lets you set it for time zones. Remote not strong, you have to be very close to use it! Once you get used to it’s quirky operation, it really is great for the price, makes high definition recording s!

This tuner is easy to set up and use. You get all the on-screen data with each channel. You have full control of every channel it receives. The DVR feature is easy to use. Connect a USB drive of substantial size to it, program what you want to record, and forget it. I use this unit with a low priced antenna that I purchased on eBay that has a built in rotor and amplifier and I get all the channels available in our area. I have had several tuners and this one is the best.

Needed a box to plug into a screen without an antenna attachment, was happily surprised with how great it works. Great quality and easy to use, with an additional flash drive it makes a great DVR. I can set the box to record when I'm not home and even take the flash drive and watch the programs later. In my area with my antenna I receive about 75 channels. Great alternative to cable, even if you just need to cut the cable bill for a few months to save money.

Want to cut the cable cord but still be able to record your favorite TV shows? This is a good solution. It allows you to record free to air TV programs whether on the spot, in advance and even allow you to set a recurrent recording. A must have in my opinion for those who are relying on free to air TV.

We needed a way to watch over the air TV on our Vizio TV (which I didn't realize until a year after I bought it - doesn't have a coax input or tuner). This box works better than I expected, we pick up more channels than another TV in the next room with the same antenna. I was also very happy to find out that the HOMEWORX tuner can be controlled with out HARMONY remote. We are very happy with this little box.

Being able to cut the cord and have a DVR for free is great. I can get all of my local channels with excellent quality. You do need a USB Flash drive or a portable hard drive to record onto and the limit is 2 hours recording time at the highest resolution. With this unit you can record on one channel and watch another with your TVs tuner.
You will need an antenna and a splitter to do it.
