The screen on our old portal got cracked and this one is so much nicer and easier. It's a great product if you can still get one.

The portal has been easy to operate, and as long as you do not setup all the extra features on the portal, even your 96 year old Nana can make and receive video calls. A Portal and a mifi unit, and we had her up and running within the day. The longest part of setup was creating a facebook and whatsapp account for her that was locked up tight through all the privacy settings. One thing to keep in mind is that you will need a device actively running the whatsapp program for the Portal to connect. We just cloned Whatsapp on one of our cell phones for her new account, and then ignore any incoming whatsapp calls from her account so she has time to answer on the portal. There may be a cleaner solution, but that is how we set it up, and it has been working well for us. The Portal app also allows you to upload photos throughout the week that will then appear on the Portal as a digital picture frame when not on use. Overall, a great product for how we use it.

Bought this as a Christmas gift to communicate with family. It works great! The picture is nice and big and I love how the camera pans and expands by itself to follow you around the room or fit in multiple people in the frame. This thing is really cool and easy to set up.

Wanted to video chat with my mom that lives in another state. My mom does not have a smart phone and is not comfortable using a laptop. I researched other products and this was the easiest and most cost effective (no monthly fees). Upon receiving, I set up the device which was very easy. The screens walk you though everything. I had to set up a very basic FB account for my mom. Send friend request to those respective family members that she would chat with complete the set up. I was nervous about setting up and then having to unplug to send to her. No worries... the device saved our settings. Nonetheless to ensure proper set up, I took the drive to visit my mom, connected to her WiFi and is was up and running. And it works like a charm. So easy for her to use. That camera is AMAZING. I love how it pans and moves with you.

Love this item. It does a lot. It has a clear picture. Great sound and I love how the camera moves with you. Wished it could convert into a tablet. Lol

Bought for my 90+ year old grandmother to be able to connect. From initial set up to use it was simple. Intuitive to use and great feature of being a picture frame with changing photos when not being used to connect with people.

Bought for elderly parents to enjoy their grandchildrens photos and they love it! Easy to operate too. I can add/delete photos from my phone!

Love it. Purchased this to allow my elderly mother to send/receive video calls but I needed something stationary and extra, extra loud and this is loud!!!!! I wish the on-screen answer button was huge!!!

Great device for smart video calling. The audio quality of the portal is very good. Connect with Alexa and you can play music with voice commands.

i mean i know this tablet device cost less than 200 bucks but common.. at least make it rechargeable just as normal tablet so it can be somehow more mobile even for old people. my dad keep messing with the power cord everytime he use it because he likes to hold it when he video chat friends or families and sometimes he pull out the plug off the outlet. Lol the screen is pretty good, good viewing angle, the camera is better than i thought, the ai on the camera is surprisingly good, the camera will always tries to find a person then zoom in or out accordingly to keep the person in the frame which is neat. The only thing that missing is the builtin rechargeable battery as i mentioned above. if you plan to place this thing on one spot only and or near power outlet this is for you, but if you like to move around while video chatting well you might want to get an ipad or a tablet as well.

Bought this to chat with friends that use Facebook. It connects and receives well. I suggest buying the portable one so you can move from room to room or outdoors.

I purchased two Portals so I could visit with my grandchildren as all of us are sheltered-in. The younger ones run around a lot, but the machine follows them so I can see what they are doing in the viewing area. This makes the viewing feel more like I am in the room than other viewers. My daughter can go check on her dinner and we can still converse. Other features, such as accessing other apps and just saying, "Portal, call my daughter," make it easier to use. The photo-stream helps me enjoy my grandkids with out hearing them also.

I was a bit skeptical before purchasing a product from Meta. However, you can absolutely close / cover up the camera and turn off the mic with a simple switch. Apps are limited but just enough for many useful tasks. You can call your friends on several platforms (FB, Whatsapp, Team, Webex). The camera can track and zoom wherever you move so you are always in focus. An internet browser app is included so you watch youtube or any video streaming websites.

We love this Portal, it is so fun to video chat with family that is too far away to see on a regular basis. My kids have also loved talked with their Grandma on this!!!

I use the portal everyday and it is very east for my lil one to navigate and call his grand parents.. this makes my kiddo phone free and handsfree..

Happy with this and using for WhatsApp and Zoom calls. Great way to keep in touch with our family in Italy.

Easy to use. The video quality and camera are good, and the sound is surprisingly clear. I bought this one for my dad, who doesn’t hear well, after I’d received one as a present. I have an iPad Pro, so I thought it wouldn’t be any different. I can say that this is better for video chatting with these apps than my iPad.
