    Could Portal Change Everything?

So I have spent a few days with the Portal 10'' and here are my thoughts! First - O think the Build quality is very nice. The Frame is a nice rubberized texture with a nice piece of what feels like glass on the front. There is also a nice size speaker on the back of the unit that sounds pretty good ( well get to that soon ) Next thing I want to say is the menu systems are easy to navigate and understand as is the settings menu within. I had no problem setting it up and also customizing after that. As for Music quality when using the supplied app of your choice ( Pandora, Spotify or iHeartRadio ) I would say this will definitely be a great music speaker for any medium to small sized room. There is nice highs and decent amount of bass and overall I actually think that using the portal as a streaming music device is my 2nd favorite thing to use it for besides of course the Video Calling Feature. Speaking of the Video Calling Feature, It works well and I am amazed at the way the Portal can stay locked on you as you move around and it also pans and zooms as people join in the frame or as you move closer or father away from it. Its a very nice way to be able to vide chat with people. With not having to hold a phone or tablet, I do believe that the future will require a device for us to use to video chat that can handle all of these things Hands Free. And Hands free so far I believe is where it is at and I think Facebook did a great job with this device. There are other features like story time which will put you into the story like when reading to a child from far away! Alexa Built in also which you can use to control your smart home. If I had to say a negative, I would say its the price. I think everyone wouldn't mind owning these but it will be hard for most people to just spring that kind of cash when its something their phone can do already. I will have a review up soon on my Youtube Page : Aluzion TV Overall I say if you have the money and want to give it a try, it is a well built, well rounded device and you just might fall in love with it..

    Keeps Grandma Close

So first of all this is a Facebook product, which you should obviously know since it’s in the name, so if you are uneasy with Facebook having a window into your home, well... That out of the way, my family uses WhatsApp and Facebook to stay in contact. This makes it so easy and comfortable to let our family hang out with us while we are doing mundane stuff like cooking or hanging out. Normally, we would only try to video chat for special occasions, but this makes it seem more natural. Perfect example was right after we brought this home we called one of the aunts up and began to have a lengthy video chat while we were cooking in the kitchen. Nothing cheesy like in some of the commercials, just a regular phone call where you could occasionally look up for facial reactions. Next it was time to get Grandma on this, so once we got her side all squared away she was able to hang out with us while my sons were carving some pumpkins for Halloween. My mom got such a kick out of that, that alone was worth it. Aside from being great for Video chats you also get access to Alexa, and other apps. You can ask for weather, you can have it play music. You can make calls to people who have the Facebook Messenger app or WhatsApp. When you are not using it, it becomes a digital picture frame. It’s a great little kitchen hub for us, and I would definitely recommend it. Also, if you are worried about privacy, there is a little switch on the top left corner that blocks the camera and mutes the mic.

Bought this for my 80 year old mom for Mother’s Day. Hoping it could keep us all connected during the pandemic. After an hour on the phone with the Geek Squad, couldn’t get it to connect to her WiFi network. Sadly gave up and returned it.

    OLD TECHNOLOGY, HORRIBLE TO OPERATE

This item appeared to be what I wanted to communicate facially with people during the time shut in. However, after days of trying to get it to operate, I have been totally unsuccessful. There are no instructions with it and the technical support did nothing. You have to double touch everything and vocally it repeats everything twice. Very annoying and useless. There is not a menu page and even though i have set it up with Facebook messenger and WhatsApp. I have not been able to find any way to contact any of friends and family. There isn't any visible means to input that information and it should automatically list all my current contacts without requiring input. Frankly this is not an item you want to spend money on. And yes I have three computers, I pad and e reader so I am not great at technology but I normally do not have a problem. It will cost more to have a tech come to my house than it is worth.

A great way to stay connected to Family & Friends

I didn't really realize how great this product was going to be until we finally had one in our home. The Facebook Portal device acts like a digital picture frame and a speaker and video caller all in one. It has Alexa capabilities and can connect to Spotify and Iheartradio. The main use of it though is for my fiance who is separated from her family who live in TN. She misses her mom dearly and they're very close. So now they cook together in the kitchen they talk over coffee on a saturday morning. They put the portal on the table in our family room and "watch tv" together. It's a really cool and simple device that really has greater communication abilities then I expected. Everyone has the ability to use facetime but a lot of the time people don't opt to use it because we are busy doing other things in the room. The portal makes it EASY to video conference without having to think about, and being hands free. So it really is a way to connect with a loved one and make them feel like they're in the room with you. I will be buying one of these for all of my best friends for Christmas who I don't see very often!

Disappointing. I think if it had more features and apps, it would've been great. The picture and sound was great, but the functionality was lacking. Maybe, the next generation of Portal will be better, and I'd be happy to try it again.

We love this device. It's an awesome thing when you need to keep in touch with family from the comfort of your sofa and they live miles away. In my case all my family live in England so this has been perfect for me. First thing is setup and that's very very easy to do. Just use your Facebook sign in information and anything else you wish to use on the portaldo a few other optional services like WhatsApp, Spotify and Alexa and that's it. You are good to go. So what this is made for primarily is communication over video and it's excellent at that. The picture quality is nice and sharp. The screen is bright and detailed and the audio comes through clear. It's great to use. The way the camera follows you makes this stand out from the competition. It's great not having to sit still while calling. While it doesn't have a lot of apps what it does have work wonderful. Whatsapps is great too. I don't use Spotify so can't comment on that. Overall I'm really happy. It sits on my entertainment unit and looks like a photo frame and when I'm ready to use I just use Alexa and get to do what I want. Also a quick note on privacy, this has a switch that covers the camera so you can be sure nobody can see you when not in use. It's a nice touch and a great option. I love this and think anyone with family who don't live close by should have one. It makes connecting with others much easier.

It deregisters your whats app from your phone and Alexa functions don't work right especially the ring account. When calling customer service they pass the buck to Amazon Alexa. Fancy unit but no functionality. Conference calls to overseas very temperamental.

This was purchased and delivered to my mother in nursing home during COVID. She could not get it to work. This was/is during COVID - so could not get anyone from family to step in and setup. Always the conclusion was that individual attempting to setup was not tech savvy. Finally, after 6mos we pass the asset to family for setup. And it turns out that this unit is broken. No wonder my mother in nursing home could never set it up. lesson learned is that we ship direct to family for setup - then send it to mom in nursing home. But we are gonna go with different product - this one is unreliable.
