You need it when changing out an older unit.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.When changing units like I did, from a 1998 GMC radio to a 2017 Alpine satellite/regular broadcast radio unit, things change in 20 years, so plan to buy one, as a precaution. If you don't need it, get a refund from Best Buy. Plus it is not at an exorbitant price. In my case it was needed.
